The incredible sound from afterburner away has to be experienced with your body in person... A F16 had a aborted takeoff while I was in Tromsø Norway a few years ago and it activated the afterburner setting of the car alarm in half the city and shaking my bones about 2km away :)
This is one thing I missed from my time with the Air Force. Watching alert aircraft launch on Active Scrambles. I served when F101's, F4's and F16's were standing 24hrs alert duty where I served. Each fighter had there own unique AB's. roar. F16's (Falcon) were the quickest to launch, follow by the F101 (VOODOO), then the F4 (Phantom). Took a little longer to get the engine started on the F4.
Those are all sweet aircraft. I was on heavies but I spent time at a base with a wing of F-105's, which had a J75 with an all-or-nothing AB. I guess that's where they got the nickname "Thud", aka the Hyper Hog. They'd line up side by side on the runway, advance the throttle to mil power, release the brakes, and just as they started to roll, hit the AB. Boom! They were impressive aircraft to watch.
Years ago I was in Albuquerque at the airport waiting to get on my flight. The windows and started rattling the walls shook. start to make a like a shaking. Then there was a rumbling, I looked out and there are two F16s making afterburner launches. 😱 it was a short takeoff and once in the air they went almost vertical on full afterburner! They were gone in seconds. I’ll remember that as long as I live, it was so amazing!
Very awesome video. Especially when it starts to get dark. I bumped my head on that pointy thing on the nose once at an airshow. Owee.. And speaking of airshows, two of my favorite airshow displays involve the F-16. One was at Ellington Field in Texas when an F-16 did a low fast flyby in front of the audience at 700MPH, slightly below speed of sound. You could see it coming from right but not hear it at all. Then it passed us right to left and after it passed, we heard it on the right side, where it used to be. Another was an awesome airshow at Corpus Christi NAS where an F-16 was just flying all around while my toddler son stood there with his fingers in his ears. The plane went straight up and completely out of sight and was gone, and everyone was looking around wondering where it went for a while. then suddenly it made a low super fast pass from behind us and everyone was blown away with excitement. The airshows always had either Navy Blue Angels or USAF Thunderbirds, but I actually preferred the F-16 flying around by itself showing its capabilities and NOISE.
Back in 2002, I worked for a UPS contractor at what was then Ellington Field in Houston. I watched this everyday, Monday through Friday. I tell ya, it was an adrenaline rush!!!!
Thank you ladies and gentlemen of the Airforce for protecting us all. You are appreciated. If it had 10 gears i could drive it, but i am afraid of heights.
I remember being on Anderson afb guam way back in the early 70s and watching the f4 phantom take off and go into afterburner it would rattle your teeth from a mile away

This is great. Can you make a video of a fighter jet doing a full afterburner takeoff and immediately pulling up sharply for a vertical climb at dusk? There should be two camera views; the first being the start of the takeoff roll with engine spooling to max, the other cam view zoomed in rotation area and transition from onset of "positive rate of climb" to vertical climbout. Thanks.
Does anybody know how fast they go on takeoff and what is their rate of climb in general? This video is mind boggling to me, you can feel the unbelievable speed and power of these beautiful machines piloted by the most courageous heroic men and women in the world.
The takeoff speed will vary, but you can look up the minimum takeoff speed depending on payload weight. These things can cruise at ~500mph and push it close to 1200mph+. So they can make a speedy takeoff!! Max rate of climb is something like 50,000 ft/min.
When I grew up in Vermont, we occasionally had the F-16s out of Burlington Air National Guard do low level exercises that brought them over our farm. It was quite a sight to be picking apples on a crisp New England day and then have one suddenly over your head. I can even remember a sonic boom happening, and yes, even 30 years later I can remember the sound of a sonic boom from an F-16.
Never, never never gets stale watching jets. I was a fueler in the early 1980s at van Nuys. Loved it.. You wanna see a missile? The old sixties series Lear jet 23s. Beyond belief. Ear piercing
Was this video taken at Peterson Airforce base in Colorado Springs Colorado? Because those mountains in the background as well as the surrounding buildings look very similar to those in COS. I am an Economics graduate from University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Now back home in South Africa having spent four and a half years in COS.
Hi, I really like your video! Would it be possible to use this footage for a documentary for a local tv station in the Netherlands? Of course we would give you credits! Kind regards, Sophie
This week 2 F16's flew over Amsterdam in Holland. This fly-over a city is not common but well since Corona airspace in Europe is empty for 90%. The rumble was loud and kept rolling for like 45 seconds.
I can remember the exact morning that the 144th TFW here in Fresno started doing their sorties in the new F15's after transitioning from the -16C's. LOL!!
LOL? I worked the first F-16's in the USAF at Hill AFB. I love them. I also worked the F-15C/D for many years. You think the the F-15C/D is a joke? LOL? 104-0 in aerial combat. Have you noticed the F-15EX has arrived at Eglin AFB for testing. Cool videos are not the evidence of a good fighter aircraft. Both are good at what they do and I turned wrenches son both in 26 years of service. Different roles, different aircraft. Educate yourself.
is that the fabled haveglass paint F16? apparently its paint that helps reduce radar returns I heard the us added that to some of the vipers years ago? any one know?
@ 1:25 that’s the fastest I’ve ever seen someone retract the gear …..I’m usually screaming for people to put up the gear but this time was a little too quick 😂

That’s what she said.
Good ol' GE f110
😏
That's one of the best sounds my ears will ever hear.
This was perfect! Take-off at dusk with low light, all the lights on the jet ON, afterburner... excellent vid!
Thank you! I just love the low light conditions for these burners to glow!
F16s take off at dawn -- that's what I want to see!

Fighter jet sound is next level
Don't you just love a video that gets straight to the point . . .
Even more impressive when you consider the F-16 is a fifty year old design now!

Terrific afterburner from the pair of F-16C in scramble mode 😱👍

Just realized this is out of March (didn't read the description until now), no wonder I recognized the C-17s in the back!
Very cool, thank you! Sure wish I could do life over again!!
Awesome, that's the way you do it!
Its awesome to watch them take off "full burn" in Bagram at night. They are LOUD!!!
Awesome... rolling take-off...the viper rotates in 14sec.💪💯

I liked the Hill Viper to close it out!
Hit the tarmac and bolt. Climb to snap to intercept. Beautiful!

IN TRUE SENSE- THIS IS THE EXACT DEFINITION OF "FREEDOM"
Freedom when necessary. Not to have fun with.
Well the F-16 at 2:35 isn't getting freedom. He's getting a speeding ticket.
youtube recommendations are hard at work!
Ahhh, the delicate sounds of Afterburner!
The most beautiful aircraft ever made
Thing you can't deny,The beauty of F16😘😘
My Father lived near March ARB and he told me that he used to hear sonic booms all the time.

Those F-16s are from Souix Falls SD! I get to see them fly every once awhile
That’s Awsome how you caught those guys! March ARB i think is mostly used for the cargo and tanker AF planes. How did you know to see those? ?

Coolest aviation video out here!

Still gorgeous after all this time.

Nice to see the 114th FW Fightin’ Lobos on here. Frequent sight over my city.
Saw HL on some of those. It was a sad day when the F-16s left Hill AFB, Utah.
I was there for 6 years in the 90's i even remember that tail number.
They went to the 114th in SD! THey right in front of ya!
thanks
I love the F-16, looks straight out of Star Wars, but cooler
What camera were you using?
Use up 1/2 of your fuel to take off... I assume those following do NOT for longer stay in the area coverage ?
Unless its the lighting, those are actually training munitions. training muns have blue stripes on them and lives have yellow.
Not always. Sometimes lives are brown.
@@fsi1212 they have brown and yellow stripes on lives. Brown means live propellant in the missiles and yellow means live explosives in the head

Will one of those afterburners bolt up to my Hellcat?
It could be done possibly B-U-T unless your remanufactured it in Aircraft Aluminum and Titanium, plastic would be flying everywhere upon lunch. haha!

Dermeister009 yes it is HAVE GLASS.
Are those planes going faster than regular airport planes? or does it just look that way because these f-16's are smaller?
Regular airport planes? Yeah these jets are accelerating much faster especially with afterburner
What a badass aircraft
Where is this? March?
Pulling some major condensation in the inlet!
I believe the official military term for that is an "unrestricted takeoff" aka "get your asses into the air NOW" :)
THE BADASSS.
Doug Masters and Chappy Sinclair takin off. Iron Eagles!
You know your jet is good when it starts to form mach dimonds
Somebody is about to get their ass handed to them. God bless America and our military 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
