The way Andre grabbed Hakeem and embraced him. This moment…. True brotherhood. It showed their dynamic so well. Andre, the oldest, who gave up his entire childhood and teen/young adult years to help raise his brothers and keep them safe. Hakeem, the baby. Who really doesn’t remember the struggle his family had because he was a baby, all he remembers is their life now. He loves his big brothers. Then, there’s Jamal, the typical middle child. The one who remembers all, saw all, and is the bridge that connects Andre and Hakeem.
Yes. That moment he grabbed Keem. The oldest/youngest relationship, thats when i seen it. Keem was prolly more than just his baby brother. Andre being the oldest, most likely raised Keem. So thats his baby. And how Jamal n Keem just hugged him, again hes the oldest so the way they went in n hugged him. Was like they were little again, and scared so they went to Andre who always kept them safe.
I can feel where he's coming from. As the oldest child, you tend to remember things and tend to be relied upon more in order to keep things steady as you help to steer the boat towards the destination of a better life. You tend to have to fight more, and you feel the pressure more, you fight the longest and remember the most of all your siblings, also you are the tester child, so the parents make the mistakes on you and get better with the next in line. Unfortunately, those mistakes don't have to be intentionally vicious in order to have a long-lasting impact on and affect you mentally, emotionally, physically, and/or spiritually, even though those mistakes weren't your fault. What's gotta be tough for Andre here (and the oldest siblings in general) is that sometimes when you break down from the weight of all that pressure and you have fallen down in front of family, friends, society...........you don't always know how to express what's happening, so instead of people trying to help understand you by figuring out what's going on, they look at you with judgement like you've lost your mind and gone crazy, and quite frankly, that shit hurts ALOT!!! Moreover, as the oldest, you tend to have 2 distinct battles that you have to fight and often times society, and family aware of it. The first battle, is the fight to prove that you know what the hell it is that you are talking about when you provide information, advice, etc as to the family's next move that they need to take in order to survive/prosper, because in essence you are a child producing adult ideas in adult conversations dealing with an adult, might makes right, dog eat dog world. The second battle is the fight to prove that you are capable of getting the results that the family needs to survive. So in a nutshell, the 1st battle is the fight is to prove you're adequate enough to be believed because you've become knowledgeable about survival, and the 2nd battle is the fight to have right to prove that your battlefield performance gets real world results. The problem is, people tend to forget (and honestly, often times they don't know) what you went through, and family tends to be the worst offender of this!! Being the oldest child is far from easy, it's hard!!
I'm the oldest of 6 not counting myself so everything he was saying and everything you're saying is relatable. If you've seen the movie Encanto the song Surface Pressure is very relatable also.
Brooo you broke this down wonderfully👏👏👏. I am the oldest so I completely understand and know what it's like. Now I have a lot of baggage to unpack 🤦♀️
I have bipolar disorder and I respect this scene on so many levels. I have been here and thank the lord for his mercy 🥺. It's truly a struggle and see how people make jokes and light of it makes me sick
Exactly! One of my friends growing up had a big sister that would get manic like this. They didn't sing though they pop their fingers to a song, no music, no singing, no talking. Just finger popping to the beat of a song and it worked! She still struggles but she is doing better.
I love the relationship, and I love how they are the only ones that when Andre has his melt downs they understand and help him through it and calm him. 💙💙💙
From the sound of it, Dre did have musical talent. He just never practiced and got better. Because even with the vocal fry and stress of crying, he still sounds decent.
Andre deserved all kinds of awards for this show...carried this whole show from beginning to end
He needed more recognition. To bad he was underrated
yess, he didn’t win anything 🌚 mostly Taraji & Terrence
The dude potrayed that Bipolar character sooo well

@@amandamorgan8349 yea, he did…his character captivated more than anyone else from beginning to end…IN ME OPINION

Well said. I cry everytime I watch this. Brotherly love.
I loved how Jamal used music to bring Andre out of his crisis and loved the way he engulfed his baby brother into a hug! Beautiful 😻
