Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.
Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

I love how Gus' first appearance in the show is like he's just a simple background character, it fits extremely well, so much so that Walt and Jesse don't even realize its him.
I knew it was him instantly because he was the only actor I knew in that scene besides Bryan Cranston 😂😂😂
Im pretty sure Gus was at the DEA before this scene.
yeah i tink its to show how well he hides in plain sight, how us as viewers dont notice him at first, and the same goes for everyone else
Guys had an audition and didn't know it.

Walt never met the king pin. But became a regular at Pollos. He beat lung cancer but the over indulgence in fried food destroyed his liver. Rest in peace Walt.
Bravo, Vince!
As for Jesse, he said: “I have to thank Pollos Hermanos. It was such a disgusting chicken I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen.” It was at that moment that he decided to toss his drug stack that was in his car into the desert, and he got clean after that.
I'm not gonna lie, Los Pollos Hermanos has some of the tastiest looking chicken I've ever seen in a serial crime drama.

Gus: i work with killers, sociopaths, crazy people, emotionless, ignorants but never junkies, i have standards
well it's not some moral thing for gus to not work with junkies. He just doesn't like em unpredictable
It’s more about the fact junkies are unreliable. Gus only works with loyal and strong people. In his eyes people like Jesse can’t be trusted enough to work for him.
Like the people above said it has nothing to do with morality. It's the fact junkies are far too unpredictable and untrustworthy. Gus only works with people who are professional at what they do and whom he knows he can trust, and if they prove to be untrustworthy for a second well, look at what happened to Victor.
It's not about morality, it's about reliability. Junkies will never be reliable.
Ironic considering that later on, Jesse is the one Gus actually came to want to work with instead of Walter.

Very few actors can pull off eating scenes. Most say that eating scenes are the most difficult because you do so many takes that you don't want to actually eat anything so you end up just faking it by just poking at the food and putting empty forks in their mouth. Like I get bored after going through some MCU movie clips, but Breaking Bad - nope, never. Can't wait to binge watch this show for the nth time again.
A sign of quality, I guess
I also enjoy watching those best moments instead of whole episodes, which are crossed with trash talk and stuff that doesn't push the plot much forward.

Same with GoT.
Fitting that Jesse was able to see so early on that Walt had become addicted to cooking.
Its interesting to think that this little scene where giancarlo esposito chose to play "man who sells chicken" with a subtle menace resulted not only in him launching one of tvs greatest villains, but also took him from character actor to one of hollywoods most recognizable actors and one of the best villain actors to have ever lived
And it all began here
Yeah, every time I see a villain I say "Giancarlo would have done it better". Specially if it's a corporate villain. He killed it in The Boys.
There is no menace at all in this scene. He only has that one line of dialogue just to show audience that it's Giancarlo Esposito and as he was quite big name he must have some bigger role as well. Foreshadowing. To Walter and Jesse it might say that he is not a manager of that outlet as regular manager with just job to do would not have paid personal attention to them so he might be someone higher in hierarchy of Los Pollos Hermanos. That would be correct guess as he is the owner and founder and very interested in keeping his business afloat.

This is why Gus didn’t want to meet with Walt and Jesse because they didn’t compliment his chicken
Your partner was late and he was high, and still didn't want my chicken.
Clips like this , make me want to binge watch the show again. For like the fifth time.
I've watched the entire series about 5 times since 2013. Could have watched it more than that easily, but deliberately made myself stop...too much of a good thing will ruin it IMO. But anyway, one of the best shows there ever was IMO.
Newbie.
Need to find time to rewatch BCS, BB and El Camino in chronological order. 11 seasons and a small movie.
Gus is offended by the fact that Walter didn't touch the food
who the hell eats the damn pollo pechuga like a damn cob of corn moving his head back and forth like a typewriter at 0:46
To think, all that information that Gus gathered from first watching, then the three seconds they talked: Jesse was late, Jesse was high, the contention between them.
Sad I can’t experience the same thing when I first saw Breaking Bad and having no clue Gus was going to be a MAJOR character. That was a fresh experience.
I watched this show for the first time in March. Easily the best week ever. I literally loved every single one of Gus’ scenes and was so interested to find out who he was when I was watching.
I remember working at a wholefoodS in downtown Austin,tx. Giancarlo sat down and ordered a pizza. I had never watched the show before and had no clue who the guy was :/ my coworker was freaking out and I asked her who he was. She told me to watch breaking bad but she didn’t wanna ruin it by telling me who he was. So I watched the show, fell in love with it and can’t believe he was sitting right there in front of me. Much like he was with Jess and Walt :/ I think he has a home in Austin and frequents in that area. I heard he’s super chill and a really cool guy.

This scene must be so weird for people who watched Better Call Saul first
Honestly I'd love the ability to watch it all again without remembering anything that happened, and to try it both ways. It'd be a completely different experience.
Same for the Star Wars Prequel-Original series.
Honestly that would be funny, like one second scene is super mundane and all the sudden OH MY GOD IT'S GUS FRING, and then he's gone and they're back to small talk
@@goldarnit Vader seems a lot less evil when you watch the Prequels first. He's just a fallen man that lost everything, and has nothing left except to unleash his pain on everyone around him.
Makes you kinda wonder, what if Vader found out immediately that his kids are alive? There might have been enough Anakin left in him to turn back to the light.
Why would anyone watch Better Call Saul first?
Even considering the chronology of these two series, It feels kinda wrong to watch BCS first.

Great casting choice with Giancarlo - we had seen him in enough movies to maybe recognize him but not enough to know that he was going to have a huge role in the series in this initial scene :-)
such a good show ....never boring. LEGEND
Would have loved a scene in Better Call Saul, showing Walt and his family in the background eating a meal (with Hank and Marie), when Pollos first opened. When Walt was still a teacher. A small nod to the audience.
There was more than enough of that

You were undoubtedly being observed. If the manager didn’t come and sit down to talk to you, then you failed the test.
I guess Lyle got promoted to another restaurant...given his dedication
Nah, after working there so long with no raise or promotion, Lyle no longer saw the point in giving it his all to keep up with Los Pollos standards and then he got the box cutter
I love how instead of his normal yellow shirt and blending with the rest of the workers, before we know who he his, he wears a blue shirt to symbolize that’s he’s different than the rest of the people there

Is Los Pollos Hermanos better than KFC and Popeyes is the real question
‘Gives KFC a run for their money,’ according to Hank
KFC is king but Popeyes has a dipping sauce called Sweet Heat...best sauce in all of fast food.
