This is probably one of Syd's most simple pieces of work yet for me personally I find it one of his most beautiful. How I would have loved to have heard many more years of his voice as I also would have Ian Curtis.
According to New Order, Syd walked in the studio while Joy Division was recording. I've never seen this story apart from an interview, but it's a weird fact if it is true.
this is one of Syd Barrett's best songs ever. So sweet That must be Rick Wright on keyboards. Syd is still sadly missed .'Piper at the gates of dawn is still one of the best albums of all time. Poor thing. , poor unlucky genius. R.I.P.
John Smith i hope this is not sarcasm, he suffered of serious mental illnesses and drugs made them 100 times worse. With time he stopped losing interests in life. He died in 2006 but mentally i think he died years earlier
This world in general can be so cruel... Syd was beyond all that, he knew gentility, something that is rare to find in this world, but once you know it, it will stay with you forever I loved her... she loved me... she (my girlfriend) was always so gentle with me, so pure... I never expected her to destroy me like this... but "I knew a girl, and I like her still..." I haven't given up on her, and I hope she won't give up on me
Syd was a genius. Syd was a giant. I feel so sad that his works didn't become famous that much, and the world didn't respond to his genius in his lifetime. And when we realized that we hadn't let a star blossom, the poor chap had grown old. A flower wasn't allowed to blossom when he had the energy of a young man flowing through him. And he is definitely better than The Beatles. WE MISS YOU SYD!!!!
not sure why you had to compare him to the beatles, they have nothing in common... but yeah, it makes me sad when i think about syd's life and career. he was, and i rarely say this, a genius...
Lol at the unhinged obsession some people have with comparing everything. Syd would be disturbed. The Beatles were The Beatles. Syd was Syd. Don't be asleep to reality.
he was a one man beatles allright. just not in the right place at the right time. the hypertrophy of the music industry wasnt his thing and he got out early is what i like to tell myself.
I knew a girl and I like her still She said she knew she would trust me And I her will I said, ok baby, tell me what you'll be And I'll lay my head down and see what I see. By the time she was back By her open eyes I knew that I was in for a big surprise. I knew a girl and I like her still She said she knew she would trust me And I her will I said, ok baby, tell me what you'll be And I'll lay my head down and see what I see. By the time she was back By her open eyes I knew that I was in for a big surprise.
i disagree. this song, and the vibe it has, is clearly syd's state of mind. there is some loneliness, sone emptiness mixed with a beatiful touch of melancholy and a joyful piano. that, in my opinion, is how syd barrett felt when he went solo...
What a beautiful song! Richard's harmonium and tin tack piano is just perfect accompaniment to Syd's wonderful piece of music and your video is the icing on the cake! Absolutely gorgeous!
Ditto, this is a painting but just constructed using music and poetry instead of a paintbrush, and if anyone can't see that, then hard lines to you. Syd was a genius and an important inspiration to generations of future successful artists.
I love this song, I find it really touching. Although simple, I find, to me at least, it shows Syd's vulnerable and exposed side. Sometimes simple is the most beautiful option.
For me, his songs are dawn and dusk at the same time. The very little second just before birth and the very little second after death in one moment...I adore him deeply
although i love waking up to Syd (as I just did when i pulled up youtube and this vid was there) it always forces me to go down the Syd rabbit hole and burn up my entire morning!
SYD BARRETT a NUDE BEAUTY; a WASTED MIND (from drugs and excesses); a TRUE GENIUS who left the entire world and future generations a precious legacy: PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC. Barrett wrote some songs of that musical genre, never heard before, around the YEARS 1965/1966 and anticipated the already famous BEATLES who "gave birth" to the famous psychedelic album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967; this detail of the musical "paternity" of PSYCHEDELIA says a lot about the innate qualities possessed by SYD BARRET. I repeat the adjectives with which from my point of view I describe SYD BARRETT: a TRUE GENIUS; the CREATOR of PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC; a PRECURSOR who musically anticipated his times. He was a musician who had VERY CLEAR IDEAS in his mind when he "pricked" the guitar strings and sang over them HARMONIES AS STRANGE as they were DELICIOUS. I would add that I still consider the album THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN, in which BARRET's work is predominant, "a relic" and it will be precisely those songs "out of time" that pave the way for the very first PINK FLOYD, which then passed in the hands of DAVID GILMOUR. BARRETT's two solo albums from 1970, especially the first, are to be appreciated even now despite having already completed "53 BIRTHDAYS"... Unfortunately BARRETT's musical clarity was unfortunately too short, otherwise today HE would find himself without no doubt about the PODIUM OF THE BEST musicians in the world: SYD BARRETT will still have a VERY important place in many hearts of people of all ages for all the good things he has done for MUSIC and will remain there FOREVER...!!! R.I.P. Syd 💔❤
i think syd might have bin a borderline personality case,it also fits the fact that he never forgave the floyds, the self destruct he had with and after the band, the day he showed up on the studio, fat and bold ,is a clearly a sign for self destruct-in other words-a call for help, syd made himself lonely but he suffered every single day from it. all he needed is love.
This is probably one of Syd's most simple pieces of work yet for me personally I find it one of his most beautiful. How I would have loved to have heard many more years of his voice as I also would have Ian Curtis.
Two very similar figures in UK music, just a decade apart!
Much missed
Wined and Dined is also one of my favorite Syd songs.
Weird, I’ve been on a Joy Division kick and just found myself hear after looking for sad songs.
According to New Order, Syd walked in the studio while Joy Division was recording. I've never seen this story apart from an interview, but it's a weird fact if it is true.

syd only genious
idd.....fantastic piece of music
You write a comment, then
Why poor, why unlucky? He did great. Didn't even need to use his hands while playing live.
John Smith i hope this is not sarcasm, he suffered of serious mental illnesses and drugs made them 100 times worse. With time he stopped losing interests in life. He died in 2006 but mentally i think he died years earlier
He was a great musician.... It's sad that the music world was cruel to him...
true !!!
I think he should be done to show him in all his spender let everyone see sad to lose it
A part of it, but it doesn't matter, we are the outsiders and they are the loosers
This world in general can be so cruel... Syd was beyond all that, he knew gentility, something that is rare to find in this world, but once you know it, it will stay with you forever

Syd was already gone before before the music world,he was taking acid like candy
Syd was a genius. Syd was a giant. I feel so sad that his works didn't become famous that much, and the world didn't respond to his genius in his lifetime. His whole life he was enjoyed thru the sonic scapes he created
And a lovely boy too,
So simple, light and magic. Such a happy song, don't feel sad for Syd. Celebrate the songs he left us.
I can always come back to Syd's songs to feel good. Such beauty in simplicity.
I do as well......
I knew a girl and I like her still
She said she knew she would trust me
And I her will
I said, ok baby, tell me what you'll be
And I'll lay my head down and see what I see.
By the time she was back

I knew that I was in for a big surprise.

By her open eyes
I knew that I was in for a big surprise.
Thanks a lot
I love Syd's beautiful English voice and poetry and melodies, all just him with a few friends helping record.
This is beautiful, it just seems so, well like you can see his vulnerable side. I will have this played at my wedding.
Did you get married and did you have this song played at your wedding? I’ve been waiting for almost 10 yrs to find out.
This is an insight to what Floyd would've sounded like if Syd stayed only Rick and Dave were in tune with him.
i disagree. this song, and the vibe it has, is clearly syd's state of mind. there is some loneliness, sone emptiness mixed with a beatiful touch of melancholy and a joyful piano. that, in my opinion, is how syd barrett felt when he went solo...
This song is so relaxing, like a nice walk... Syd was beautiful,too..
it's hard to connect and love people when you are far out/in your head, and disconnected. hard to do.
You know it brother, hope ur doing good out there
a song that seems made to make an irresistible homesickness feel for an irretrievably lost time
Wonder what Syd would have thought of all the love his music and art keep getting, 13 years after his death.
He would appreciate the love
I hope he'd think "But why not more?"
He didn't care much for his musical adoration and fame. But he loved painting
Canzone fantastica ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Grande! 🇮🇹
What a beautiful song! Richard's harmonium and tin tack piano is just perfect accompaniment to Syd's wonderful piece of music and your video is the icing on the cake! Absolutely gorgeous!
Hi I recommend an indie song and album here on youtube called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
Star is shining in the sky for Syd god bless him❤
Ditto, this is a painting but just constructed using music and poetry instead of a paintbrush, and if anyone can't see that, then hard lines to you.
Syd was a genius and an important inspiration to generations of future successful artists.
60s and 70s uk rock is the best.
I wish I could have met him once in my life!!!!
Yeah
Syd or Roger?
Oui moi aussi😊
I love this song, I find it really touching. Although simple, I find, to me at least, it shows Syd's vulnerable and exposed side. Sometimes simple is the most beautiful option.

RIP Iggy the eskimo
@@mimidean6950 hahah mimi dean. You and I have the same aesthetic.
Filmed early '69.

Lovely song. Syd got some good musical backing from Gilmour and the rest on this one
Delightful!
Amazing song even more relevant now days

Sarà la mia canzone che accompagnerà il mio funerale.
