Hey all, back again with another full album tutorial video. A companion video if you will, to my full album tutorial for Aerosmith' Toys in the Attic album, which I posted last month. That video was quite successful and there were numerous comments stating that I should tackle Rocks next, so here we are.
Now, just to be clear, these AREN'T full song tutorials. they're mainly focused on the main opening riff from each track, however I tend to keep going and cover a bit more just for fun, maybe the first verse and chorus. not getting into bridges, outros, fills and solos in these mini tutorials.
Hope you enjoy the vid and find it helpful in learning this fantastic album, just full of cool and raunchy classic Aerosmith riffs.
    Cheers, Kelly

I was 15 years old. I made 40 dollars a month. I would buy a cheese pizza, a concert ticket, some smoke, and a album..... one month I of course bought this album. Definitely a great month. I had such a great time listening to this album with my headphones. I got my first guitar when I was 15 also. I'm 65 now. Oh what a joy to have been born in 59... Thank you sir for all your hard work and bringing us Joy.

Hands down one of the best rock albums ever recorded. I became a huge Aerosmith fan in 1975 with Get Your Wings. I have worked out many guitar parts of this album, but there's a couple things that I definitely learned here, and that is a great thing! Nice job!

I was a professional musician in the late ‘70s and ‘80s in Boston. I got to meet Joe Perry in 1981. It was during the JPP years. He was in pretty bad shape but a very cool guy. Rocks in IMHO was a masterpiece. Great video!

Those first two JPP albums are exceptional.
The lyrics to "Conflict of interest" are almost futuristic, when you apply them to how divided
we are today with social media, cancel culture, etc:
Here i am, alone on the street, with hundreds of people who's eyes never meet...
You scream outrage, all i say is tame!
Make sure your interests don't conflict with mine...

Question for you: Joe Perry is sometimes thought as a blend of Page and Richards, but I think that’s more of his look. His riffs are really different than anyone else’s. Rocks and Toys sound completely different than any other rock albums. How do you define his style? Example: Back in the Saddle is such a weird riff but it works so well. Walk this Way in the verses is so funky and unusual too.

@@Dan-zq5wt -+- I AGREE with you man , to me joe is in a class by himself , and ya cant just say or define his licks as blues, mabey blues influenced , because they are, its the way he uses those scales, it wasnt till about 7 yrs ago i learned about drop an open tunnings , 40 years ago when i learned 3 chord blues the pentatonic and whatnot , i used to get so frustrated when i couldnt even get close to most of these songs, my first jam buddy would say thats in whatever different tunning an i didnt inquire to much about , i kept thinking i gotta learn to play in standard 440 first before i learn different tunnings, the capo is another thing i dont like at all , but i will do and use this drop tunning for sure , glad o found this guy , hr,s awesome. , i always had a hard time tunning by ear , i still do, an ear dr once told me my mid range is gone , i put my head right in the huge speakers so many times ,plus i did a lot of shooting without ear plugs , i turn 60 this month ,so ill be getting a complete intense physicall. dam i starrted rambling , sorry , peace out

I agree, Kelly. Toys is a great album, but Rocks was by far my favorite.

with respect to the heaviness of this album..and especially Nobody's Fault. Tom Hamilton's pounding bass lines lend a lot to that overall kick ass sound.

Hate to get greedy but how bout the debut Aerosmith album tutorial? Might be the most guitar thick album of them all!!!

Love that video! Been working at it for a week or so. Your a great educator and you’ve got a solid ear. Thanks for all the good work. What about Led ZEP II for the next full album course?

Oh hell yes, I was 16, working in ABC's Wide World of Music record store, I knew this album was coming out, I was in charge of updating that godforsaken Phonlog, a giant binder of every album ever When this dropped, I bought it, took it home and threw it on my Technics table, with a Yamaha amp and Infinity speakers... .boy, those were the days!
Thanks for putting this together, Kelly. Good stuff!

This was one of my first new albums I ever purchased. I was in Jr high. I bought the album in a head shop lol and rode home with it riding my 10 speed bike. A bit tricky. 😅
But honestly Get Your Wings is my fav Aerosmith album ever.

Summer of 1977 I was 16 and just got my license. My next door neighbor was 2 years older and always had weed and all the new albums. I heard this one for the first time and it blew me away! It was the heaviest music I had heard up until Van Halen 1. If only one had a time machine..LOL!

Watching this video really makes me realize how talented Joe Perry really is. It blows my mind. I would love to have been on the room while he was writing this stuff. Unbelievable. Thank you.😊

Easily their best album IMHO, especially side one. Better overall song quality than their earlier stuff, and no forced marketing like the latter stuff.

I was 16. Got my first loan co-signed so I could buy an Elektra LP copy and a new Peavey Classic 30. I botched my way through this entire LP, though I could nail "Sick as a Dog" pretty good for a 16-year old kid. I learned a lot by just playing with the record; one day I'm jamming and Dad's standing there. He said "How'd you learn to do that?" Wish RUclips was around then. LOVE playing to the thousands of really good backing tracks out there.
Well, I'm still learning at 63. btw, Subbed!!
