If you know of Benn Venn, then you are one of the few who know of magnificent art that is beyond our current time. He is a Picasso of our time.

Just installed a solderless screen upgrade in my Lynx I've had since 91 when I got it new at 8 years old, using your video! Thank you! Now i think I'm going to get one of these carts

Thanks for this review. I just ordered one of these and snagged the ROM collection. It will be great to have just one card with everything and leave me single cards alone.

I recently ordered one myself. I happen to have found a Lynx Model II at a local charity shop here in Australia. It came in a nifty carrying case, and contained two game cartridges. For $5AU it was a good find, and now I'll be able to play my games easily, saving wear and tear on the cartridge slot.
UPDATE: I got my ElCheapSD today. I ended up putting the Micro SD card and was able to play the games and homebrew I have. It's well worth it!

RetroHQ have one with a black&white menu that’s readable on an original display, and the Lynx menu part is open source if it wasn’t readable. The BennVenn one doesn’t look like this anymore, and you can’t get the old black & white menu shown here.

Mark, does the cart have a rounded end (the side that gets inserted into the slot itself)? Just trying to understand if it’s angular then if over time it’ll bend back the pins in the cart slot. Thanks!

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  4 года назад +1

Hiya. I’ve just checked and the edge with the contacts is bevelled the same as the original carts. It shouldn’t put any additional pressure on the pins.

Woow am so amezed that there’re already 3 competitors with their own version of the lynx sd card
Including 2 versions of retrohq and 1 version from bennveen ,i am sooo amezed about that because the lynx was supposedly never be able to run an sd card adaptor, that’s because it simply lacks a hard reset, HOWEVER by isolating the ram of the lynx, a hard reset can be simulated, this allowing multiple roms to be put on 1 sd card , not only that but the 512k limit can be overcome by making new games for it wich swaps 512K of data overtimes when needed, so the once impossible has become possible.

    1. Is the microSD card included?
    2. What sizes does it support?
    3. What's a good microSD card formatter utility for Windows?
I just ordered one. I hope it has better card edge contactment than Lynx game cards. I don't want a session of Xenophobe to end with another sudden shut off. Grrrr...
My Mom and I bought 14 games when it was hot to do so. She played her Lynx a lot!! She passed in 2009 and still played all her games and I still have her Lynx. Mine got stolen and thrown out by an evil entitled selfish ignorant family member.

    • @MarkFixesStuff

      Hi Mr Floyd!
I don't think there will be a problem with contacts. BennVenn has since updated the thickness of the pads to account for "worn Lynx" sockets.
      1. Don't think the SD is included.
      2. I think anything SD, but not SDHC. To be honest 2gb is massively overkill. All the "rums" take up less than 30mb.
      3. Just use the built in windows formatter and select FAT32. FAT16 and ExFAT don't work.
Sorry to hear about your mom. It's nice to have a gaming memory of her.
Thank you for watching the video :)

Ok, I just want it known and it may be a coincidence, but after placing the BenVenn purchase via PayPal, my credit card number was compromised the next day. Thankfully my issuer caught the fraud, so hopefully the BenVenn website isn't harboring hackers or malicious scripts who capture credit card numbers. Just be aware.
