- Join me as we repair an Atari Lynx Model 2 that won't power on.
Atari Lynx consoles have a habit of failing to turn on. This is a common problem which can be solved by replacing the power stage. It will also resolve any issues of incorrect generation of 5v voltages in case you are planning to install any screen mods or similar. If your Atari Lynx 2 is not switching on, then this will most likely resolve the issue.
Digital Delights has put together many quality kits for all kinds of retro handhelds and other consoles. Visit www.ebay.co.uk... to view their store.

I had a Lynx 2. Loved it. Glad you managed to bring thos one back to full health.
It's getting a new screen next!
could have been subtitled......"thats what Mrs. fixesthings said" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bonjour pouvez vous me renseigne sur le type de diode en haut à cote du potentiomètre les 3 diode disposée comme des diode de redressement cms ! J'ai celle du bas qui est passante merci
Is it possible to do this without a hot air gun? All I have is my soldering station.
Yes, but use a small tip and done't force it because it's easy to destroy the solder pads.
A 9 minutes ce n'est plus la même résistance r74 et le condensateur c36 a disparue. Pourquoi ? Merci
Need to watch you don't burn your tool when it's close to a hot soldering iron
I'm trying not to overheat my package...
Great video. I hate flux, it's irritating, and it gets everywhere! I love IPA though, so I love cleaning up after.
Have you got a small flow tip for your iron? I like to dab a little solder into the well and then use that to solder anything smaller then an 0603. You can hold the component in place with your other hand rather than trying to juggle the comp, solder and iron.
I don’t have one of those drag solder tips at the moment, but I think I’ll order one now you have mentioned it. In the past I’ve just used a lot of flux, solder paste and a board heater/hot air combo. It works well but I saw Stephen Leary (TerribleFire) using the tip you mentioned and like the look of it. Cheers!!!
Too many sexual inuendo’s.😮
Awesome video thank you!!
I haven't read any of the comments to check if anyone else said this, but......"That's what she said!" I'll go now
No shame in dropping a classic line twice, ever!
Absolutely the DIY king of innuendo.
I have no idea what you mean...
Beautifully fixed up. Well done - great work. Thanks for the videos Mark!
Thank you so much for the heads up. I still can't understand how I messed up so badly and then sat and edited it! I even went and checked two other lynxes that I practiced on before shooting this one and I'd done those correctly. I live in terror of leading people astray and you saved my bacon!
@@MarkFixesStuff What was the mistake? I watched the original version all the way through but I guess I must have missed it.
I desoldered and replaced the entirely wrong component.
In my defence it was directly next to it and I was working around the camera... and drunk.
@@MarkFixesStuff Oh, and it was a teeny tiny component that looked very similar to another teeny tiny component a few millimeters away, just different colour.
How to confirm the components, especially transistors, are bad to avoid shotgun approach?
Not easily without removing them anyway. You can check for 5v, but the real reason for changing them is that the new parts are better and more resilient than the original parts.
Thank you so much for this video. I had some confusion as I had ordered my voltage regulator kit from console5 and it came with two Zener Diodes for lynx I and II. Theirs for the Lynx II doesn't have the through-hole style ends, while the Lynx I zener diode does. So it's the opposite, for anyone else looking...
Yes, it depends on the kit you get. This is great info. Thanks for taking the time to share :)
Nice fix. I'm not sure wether to use Flux or not, What's your take on the subject ?
Never use the stuff.
Always nice to see you save another console mate 👍
Nice work. I had Lynx bitd which stopped working and ended as land fill. Wish I knew then what I know now.
So many things I can say the same about. Some of the stuff that passed me by makes me cringe.
Hello Mark this video leaves me with a searing doubt... By any chance, is it possible that you love flux?
How did you know ???????
@@MarkFixesStuff uh dunno, maybe it's my female intuition, sometimes it works in misterious ways... 😂😂😂
Probaly neeter than my soldering, I can be a bit messy.
Me too. Although not soldering...
The desoldering gun was the best 70 quid ever.
It’s the best honestly.
Love a bit of carry on humour, and a job well done mate... There's a rumour you're partial to a bit of flux...
I told my wife “flux on”. She told me to “flux off”...
@@MarkFixesStuff 😂😂👌
I have a Lynx I that is powering on but it’s not loading the games. I always get blank screen. It’s already recaped and I’ve cleaned the cartridge slot. Still same problem. Do you have any tips what could be? Thanks
Would love to have seen som pre diagnosis. Mesure voltages at the power jack moss fet etc. Also what was your hot air set at temp/rate? Thanks
Good ole innuendo. Fnarr fnarr!
Nice fix on my favorite handheld.
Bell-end icon hit.
Good stuff mark but seriously get a decent hot air station and don't waft it
Great video as always, nice work and thanks for the laughs
Been waiting for this!
Me too hahahahaha 😂😂😂😂
Love the innuendo! 😜
Thought I'd just slip it in behind your back...
