Leatherman has long been the king of multitools and while there’s been many copycats many would say no one comes close… until now!

lots of companies source their products world wide, still cool that the goat is made in USA tho Trump 2024
I believe the hooked blade is intended for opening clear plastic clamshell retail packaging that is "welded shut" and a total pain to get appart. When scissors won't cut it and a standard knife blade is a bit scary, pulling that hook down the edge of the packaging seems a bit less dangerous.
It's for cutting rope or twine or any other line
It's a multi use blade. It's a "safety blade" seat belt cutter, package opener, boot lace cutter, etc
The Leatherman is nice until I’ve lost it.😂
and i found it hehe
wave t2?
I did find one in the weirdest place. When routing some new wires in my Jeep Grand Cherokee , in the vicinity of the inside area of the right rear wheel - I saw part of a Leatherman sticking out! It was a BITCH to get out!
I was adding a switch to manually turn on my "extra" rear lights when camping or similar.
Mine's been lost 15 years but I know it's misplaced rather than lost.
I lost the original Leatherman years ago
@@johnpoerio4071buy three Gordons. Lose two, keep one😅
I'm rocking the Gerber's but for the right price I'd throw one of these in the cars, boat, and range bag
I'll get a couple for the Grandkids!
Not a big financial loss when they tell me they "lost it:!!!!
I have personally come to the conclusion that "IF my life ever depended on a tool for "Survival" I WOULD WANT NOTHING BUT THE BEST!
There has been at LEAST 1 occasion that I was glad I had "THE REAL THING!"
Picked up mine Thursday. It’s a good EDC tool.
I have a leatherman wave. Somewhere... Haven't seen it in 15 years. Just waiting for it to turn up.
I actually find a knife with a couple of drivers (Leatherman Crater) more useful as multitools tend to have less capable tools for the bulk they take up and there's the simplicity of a clip over a pouch. (It also has a bottle opener).
The Gordon has those brass washers that allows the smooth operation in between every pivot point. The Leatherman does not, it has some which is odd. My old Gerber has none. I have carried mine since 1997 in the Army. I don't use it a lot, but it is nice having something. If I lost my Gerber, I would buy a Gordon.
The first tool you pulled with the hook is great for opening the plastic box/wrap I can never get into..
It’s actually not, the tip isn’t sharp at all so you need to use the knife first to pierce the plastic, then the gut hook to open it.
I’d buy the Leatherman for the same reason I buy Benchmade and Microtech knives. Years after the purchase on something that you use everyday you’ll appreciate that tiny extra bit of quality.
Most folks don’t know that the Gordon has a hidden retractable lanyard clip. The belt clip is removable too. All in all a wonderful multitool.
My one complaint with my Leatherman is the sharp edges that pinch your skin when closing. Bravo to Gordon for the rounded edges!
Careful about the ozark trail reference. They actually make some decent ones that are sleepers and pretty popular in the multi tool community. There are a few other budget brands on Amazon (they are probably all made in same factory)
Agreed. there is one at around the $42 price point, I think the Multiforce.
Guidesman also has some very competitive models around the same price as this Gordon model. They all have slightly different tool sets, but in my opinion, well worth a look.
Same. Bibury is good. I have a surge, wave, wave plus, wingman, and some others. I end up using cheap multitools more often, because they are in the Jeep, truck, and tractor tool kits.
I actually have the Leatherman equivalent of this HF item. This HF. Multi knife looks nice
Thank you for the review, Jeff. I think for 1/3 the price the Gordon is worth a try. The warranty is sketchy but you should be able to return it if it breaks. If I had unlimited funds I'd buy Leatherman, but like most people, I don't. Be safe on your way home. Thanks again, Jeff! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Since the Leatherman is under 100 I think I would probably save a little longer just to have made in USA.
I would go with the Gordon if it lasts 10 years and you buy three it beats the leatherman. I think it may be made by leatherman man to compete with the nock off.
I was in at harbor freight today and I bought a Bauer 6” bench grinder (discount open box) even though I came in for something else. Asked about it and they were generous to open up and let me see it. Basically the box was damaged but the unit itself was brand new. Took it home and plugged it in. Works perfectly.
I got mine last Memorial Day using the 20% discount. Score!
Same here
Same same. Love it.
The case on the leatherman is ok unless you wear it every day, then the rivets rip out of the leather in under a year.
I got my Gorden last week (had to ask Manger if they had any). Very impressed with it so far and 100 dollars cheaper.
I'm still partial to the Gerber multi tools.
I have a couple Gerber variations and I do like them. I have a Kershaw with locking pliers that is my overall favorite.
Same here. I’ve got the first two I ever bought. I’ve had them right at thirty years with no complaints at all. And not having to unfold them to use the tools is much better in my opinion.
@ecleveland1 I like the sliding action on the model I have. Very well machined and works smoothly!
@@paul-ld9vh I have a sliding model and it's about 25+ years old with not complaints
I still have my original Leatherman my dad gave me when I got out of USCG bootcamp in 1990.
Back before a whole lot of identify theft and I had inscribed my SSN onto the side bevause it was my identification on board a coast guard cutter with everyone else having the same multitool..😅
I review Leatherman multitools and this looks solid!
Half the price for 85% of the goodness of a leatherman is decent.
Nothing better than Leatherman....
Leatherman all the time. You get what you pay for.
This multi tool is a direct comparison to the leatherman charge +
I’ve always preferred the Gerber multi tools. Being able to deploy the pliers with just a flick of the wrist and not having to unfold it to access the tools and knives is just a far better design. Plus the Gerber multi tools don’t cost as much as the leatherman . I’ve got two Gerber multi tools that I’ve had for right at 30 years and I have zero complaints with them.
We were issues Gerber's prior to deployment and I love them and I agree the pliers deployment is nice
I carry my Gerber tool fishing all the time and am very thankful for how helpful it is to have it along with its super sharp blades!
gerber makes a decent tool but its easy to pinch your fingers if the pliers slip ..leatherman does not have that problem
It’s a Leatherman wave clone since their patent expired
I've got a Leatherman Classic, lost it and replaced it with a Wave, then found the Classic again. I keep the Classic with the work uniform of my full time job, use the Wave for EDC, and have some horrible worthless no name knockoff for my part time job. I'm planning to get a Gordon to be my new full time job tool and the Classic will become my part time job tool. As for the Galvanox, it would be nice if they made it with a deeper socket to take double ended bits like used in the Klein or Quinn 10 in 1 screwdrivers. Maybe Harbor Freight would consider doing something like that.
My contact from HF responded and the warranty is 90 days as per the product page and all other Gordon brand products. The "lifetime" statement on checkout was a computer glitch and has been addressed.
I had a SOG about 25 years ago that was beautiful.. paid 130 way back then. Someone stole it and have been looking for another every since
The product page says 90 days warranty but if you add it to your cart, it shows lifetime. People have also said it says lifetime warranty on the receipt when purchasing in store.
Yep, waiting on mine to be delivered tomorrow, lol.
totally not true, customer service told me so.
I ordered on line and yes a lifetime warranty
That was an error on the computer, the warranty is 90 days as stated on the product page.
Ok, the darn bear made me buy one.
I just received a Leatherman ARC by UPS today and got a free Micra for orders over $150.
Both are American made beauties.
I bought a Charge Ti+ about 6 months ago after losing my Wave.
HF Gordon multitool broke in a month.....I bought this tool a month ago as a replacement for my misplaced Leatherman Wave. I am a contractor and utilize a multitool knife daily for small tasks I come across. I have had several Waves and love everything but the price so I figured I would Give the Gordon a shot ($40 vs $110). Up until today I was very impressed. Tight, well put together, equal functionality. Today I needed to pull a rusty finish nail while painting. The nail head was gone so no pulling it with the hammer. I took hold of the nail with the pliers and twisted the pliers. Half of the plier head broke off... this NEVER happened with my Leatherman. Is the Gordon worth the $40. Yes but not as a daily user. Is it Leatherman Quality .. No Way!! I have used and abused My waves for years. Other than dull them, break the screwdriver bit prying or misplace or lose the tool (my fault) the knife has never let me down. 30 days and the Gordon is done. Tomorrow off to buy another Leatherman
Take the clip off if you use the pouch
The reversible micro eyeglass screwdriver, the belt clip comes off (press the tool release button and it slides right out), and the slide out keychain/lanyard hole are all extras that I really like. I got mine last week and it's worth the price as compared to the Wave.
That Gordon multi-tool looks similar to a Leatherman I used to have.
I bought one of these last week and the plain knife blade is so tight there's no way it can be opened one handed. Do you if I loosened the screw just a hair that would fix it? If so, what size torx is that? Thanks for any help with this and informative video. 😎 ✌️
Someone who would use a multi tool every day and multiple times a day might want the reliability of Leatherman. The Gordon would be perfect for the 1st time multitool buyer.
I have the two generations of the Wave. Best quality multi tool in its class IMO. The HFT knockoff is interesting because I would get a couple if it’s not total garbage like the Walmart version. One for my truck tool bag and one in my camper. The Wave I’ll carry. Just too expensive to put one in my different tool bags.
For $40 bucks i will probaly buy one. Looks decent . Thanks for informative review of it..
I get a 25% discount coupon from HB occasionally so the tool would cost me $30! $120 vs $30!
ive been carrying supertool 300 for years and use it several times a day....i have a few backups.. bibury tools makes a decent wave type..
Back order on harbor freight
What the hell with these items
Months ago it was that red mini tool box from Lowe’s , now this , it’s not that special its not made of gold
Getting tired of this over population nonsense , like a bunch of stupid pigeons scrapping for a piece of bread
I don't know how I manage, but I make do with a $5 multi-tool.
I don't want to treat my multi-tools like toys. I use the heck out of them, to the point of destroying 'em.
Wish it was spring loaded.
I have one of those and believe me it is just a piece of crap compared with Leatherman wave or charge….it is what it is!!!
I have a whole new appreciation for my "wave" that I appropriated from my wife's long term storage box that she has never opened since I have known her...😅. I hate to fly because I feel naked without it. I may get a Gordon so I won't have to commit Hari kari when I lose it 😂
If you lose it how can you commit hari-kari?
LOL😂
Carry a pair of $5 pair needle nose, and a knife. More useful than these clumsy things
To make any tool operate smoothly, take lapping compound and kerosene and apply to all hinged parts
Well. . . Back to Harbor Freight I Go! 😂
I wanted to get one for hubby but the manager at the local HF didn't even know about it.
I went on Friday and a guy stocking shelves had not idea. I went On Sunday asked a team leader and they I was informed they keep them in the back becasue of theft.
If you set your store on the website, it will tell you if an item is in stock and it will say what aisle the item is on
@@quiettime6871 Thanks!
Do you have a link for that hex adapter/extension? Do you think they will make it in Bauer Red???? LOL
I’ll have to post it later
Leatherman makes the Gimp from Pulp Fiction pop into mind.
Right!
Isn’t this a Charge clone? Same tool set exactly.
Is 0124 the production date?
Got mine a few days ago. Not a multitool guy, usually carry a victorinox hiker. I modded out the Gordon- main complaint was the course file is not enough to sharpen an axe- turns out no multitool file is. Modded a Stihl chainsaw flat file to replace the stock one. Also turned the flat screwdriver into an awl/ sewing reamer like on the SAK. Great tool overall. Dad bought one and is carrying it instead of his old Gerber after checking mine out.
Any pics of mods?
@@aljohnson2439 I did a video on some of the smaller things I did to it, I added the Stihl file mod after, that mod will appear in a crayfish trap video I’m working on.
It is a lifetime warranty, someone called and confirmed. It also says lifetime when you add to cart.
That was me. We must like the same videos.
I talked to my reps at corporate. That was a computer error, it's 90 days as it says on the product page.
@denoftools they are really sending mixed messages because I've seen several confirmations in email form of a lifetime warranty now. Thanks for looking into it though
@@jordanarizon4089 My info isn't from customer serice but from senior managment. And if you try to order it now they have fixed it and it no longer says that.
Got one 20% off hell yeah
No shortage- I bought mine online when I saw a better side by side review Sunday- Got it today via FedEx. Buy online and get a lifetime warranty- fit in my custom Leatherman (not Leather Man btw) case. You're a know it all that doesn't. Bubye Leatherman- you're going to be a gift. Quality is better by far than my Rebar
Warranty is 90 days as stated on the product page.
Good thing I screenshotted mine then- so I got the Lifetime Warranty
@@skipm8029 FTC states: sellers are not required to honor typos or other "honest mistakes".
@@denoftools typos? Please- you wanting to play one up or something because I called you out. You were wrong on your statements and you continue to be I'll just leave it at that
@@skipm8029 Called me out? For what, stating facts? LOL, dude I just literally quoted FTC guidelines. Google it if you don't belive me but stop just making stuff up. Clearly you have not been around the channel long or you would also know that I have direct contacts with senior management at HF. I already ran this by them. This has always had a 90 day warranty as per the product page. The "lifetime" part was an "honest mistake" in the check out program and has been addressed. This is all just information. It's not personal, not sure why people like you get so bent just because you were wrong.
I will take the Gordon, it just looks good.
Wow super thanks for this vid Sir
I got it and like it, despite not being into multitools. It's just one more option for what to throw in the glove compartment, or each tool bag in addition to real tools. For EDC actually on my person, I'm sticking with Victorinox and Emerson. For needle nose pliers, I have a pair of Quinn everywhere, gotten on sale for an average price I think under $6.
Both the Leatherman and the Gordon lack some of the most important tools of my Victorinox. I use the magnifying glass almost every day. The pen doesn't get used much, but when it does because there is no other writing instrument to be found, it's worth its weight in gold. Ditto for the tweezers and straight pin. And yes, I've even used the toothpick.
Hey, nice horse you're riding.
If it were an higher it would be oxygen deprived.
Gordon is the Wave+ killer.
Just got one today!
IMPRESSED!!!
I already like it better than my 30 yr old "Leatherman"!
At this price get 2 !
I'm "Older" at 74 and rertired!
I've always tried to be as close to a Renaissance man as possible.
You know, a "MacGyver" of today! Independent, expert in at least "Something" and a Journeyman in MANY!
Having a Tool-kit with me at all times is just "ME"!
I now have One on my Workd around the house pants and my Going to Store pants! LOL
I’m gonna stick with my Leatherman sidekick. I don’t want to hear someone say. “Hand me the Gordon” 😅😂
I did a review of this tool also mine came out broke from the package and I can see his is messed up also it catches when he opens it,,mine caught so bad it made a notch on the pliers,,,,it’s worth what I paid for it $25
I have an original Letharman, Gerber and SOG tool. Used all 3 when I deployed in 05 damaged the wire cutters on my Leatherman cutting wire I had been cutting for weeks with it. The Leatherman also was becoming loose and sloppy.
Gerber didn't have the leverage to cut the wire without significant force application. After significant use started getting loose and sloppy.
SOG cut the wire no problem it was very stiff at first but by the end of deployment was kinda sloppy too.
All 3 were great tools in my opinion each had its pros and cons. I have owned several different knock off tools and you could feel the cheapness in them and they all broke quickly. However this new tool piques my interest.
I am just not a fan of multi tools. When I tried to carry in pockets, the relatively sharp edges tear the pocket and pants fabric. And the bulk is annoying. Alternative is keeping in a bag, I suppose, but I have larger, easier to use tools in my EDC bag.
I'm happy with mine so far, had it about two weeks. I know they were going for a wave clone, but I really wish they figured out how to get a standard 1/4 drive in there instead of those crappy flat screwdrivers. That extension you showed looks like something else to lose unfortunately. Mossy Oak has a 1/4 standard built into the multitool of theirs I have and it is very handy. It locks at 90 and 180 and will never get lost.
I bought one of these and wouldn't buy another one. I use the Philips screwdriver often, and the bit on this tool is only barely held in place by a tiny magnet in the socket, and it's BOUND to come out and get lost fairly soon. Otherwise, would be a good knife, but this is a deal killer for me.
I've had the Wave+ for over a year, and the Gordon is a very good copy of it, lacking only a few features that the Wave+ has. My biggest complaint is that the inches ruler on the edges has 1/10th inch increments rather than 1/8th, other than that, it seems great. I put hard miles on my Wave+, but I'm gonna carry this for a bit to see how it compares long term. I will say, the Leatherman blades deploy effortlessly in comparison and is all around more sturdy, but it's also 3x the price of the Gordon. I think this is gonna do great for a while, and at the price, I'd currently recommend it over the Leatherman simply because multi tools are one of those niche items that not everyone will want, and this being such a good copy would help someone get their feet wet in multi tools without dropping a lot of money on a premium one.
I'm curious on how well the blade edge holds up and how easy it is to sharpen. I got a Gordon knife for camping because it looked like it would be good quality and it had good reviews, but it's the worst knife I've ever owned. Hopefully HF is improving their Gordon line too.
As a wave abuser I am on my 6-7th one. Actually have two. I’ve worn out the warranty. From broke blades to dull blades to broken pliers and wire cutters. I use it daily. And been carrying a Leatherman of some sort for 30 years.
Saw your video. Purchased the gordon I been wanting a wave for years. This gordon is fantastic. Great quality.
Isn't the pocket clip removable, to use the belt pouch? Either or.
It is but I think a lot of people will leave it on so they can go back and forth easily.
I think having the Gordon is a great idea in the aspect that if you lose it you're not going to be as upset as the Wave
Oh Darn! Now I gotta go get me one! 😎
For that price I’ll probably pick one up to try out. I have a leatherman signal that I carry occasionally and an older gerber mulitool that I keep in my range bag-like the pliers but no pocket clip so I don’t carry that one
I have the wave. Paid $70 for it. It's a solid tool. IMO The Gordon is a little pricey. When you get a chance, test out all the tools. I will say my wave was also super stiff to start with.
Sure would’ve been nice if you had put a link in for the extension on the screwdriver other than that I’m a big fan of the channel. Love what you’re doing
The Leatherman is american made
My pliers broke under normal use. I promptly returned it. I will wait to see what improvements happen later down the line before I buy another.
I like my Gerber Suspension. For the type of work I do, it just seems to have more functionality than others I've owned. I do have a Klein that has specific functions. It's a tuffy. Others I've had are Leatherman and SOG. I will be checking this out though. I feel that between my Gerber and my Swiss Champ knife I have almost a tool box in my pocket.
I really hope they make a surge clone. I have a wave+ but if they're going to make a surge lone as good as this one, I'd take it.
I really like HF, but this Gordon is not worth it. Make it 20 and then it is a diff talk. 40 for a no warranty. A little bit more is better quality and better warranty. HF missed the boat on this one all the way around.
Some people have said it actually has a lifetime warranty. Apparently, when you add it to cart, it says that. I have a call into my contact and Harbor Freight and I’ll be posting what I find out
Turns out I was correct and it's only 90 days.
That tool is perfect for a Christmas or birthday gift. Looks more expensive than it is!
One multi tool had the ability to be whipped open with one hand. Was it the SOG one? Or Gerber? Anyone recall?
When you check out of the online store it says lifetime warranty free.
That was a typo and has been corrected.
My Victorinox Super Tool is the best one of these multi-tools ive ever used and ive used a lot of them.
Thanks for your review. I might get this soon! When are the sale coupons coming?
Leatherman are shit. They are all rusting and won't open,etc.. Maybe that is just mine.
😂 yeah just you... You around salt water?
@@deykno87 Yes, I live on the water.(salt water)
Leatherman hands down
my super tool was smooth as butter when i first bought it. its the machining on the mating faces of the pivots, coupled with the retention force of the screws. that combo needs to be juuuust so, or its tight when you try to open them.
I do like the Leatherman warranty. i get a new one about every 2 years…
Interesting, I think I’m going to check it out. Even if I don’t like it more than my wave I can make it a truck tool or hand it down to my sons like ones in the past
I got mine with the 20% coupon. I’m impressed with it and I have a Leatherman that is 30 years old. I also bought a Gerber one several years ago and when I tried to use the screwdriver, the damn thing broke.
