I've been playing around with Logic over the lockdown period and your videos have been an enormous help. Now my free trial is due to expire, I'm working up the courage to fork out the £200 to buy the full version...!
Have used Protools since it was called 'Digidesign' and had to be installed from a floppy disk. so.. I'm old but am open to learn Logic and your way of explaining helps my brain not blow a fuse. In fact yours is the first channel I've subscribed to... am enjoying the videos. Thanks for coming back to basics for beginners like me.
A superb tutorial, excellent narration. SOOO many RUclips tutorials are by folks with skills, but little bedside manner. They often need to polish their teaching game. Lacking in this tutorial: "Uh...." "whatever..." "guys...guys...guys" every 10 seconds. "you know..." (no I don't). Nathan, as any great teacher, is well prepared, he moves the narrative along, and leaves you wanting more. So far the best tutorial I've seen about Logic Pro X.
I've just finished my second LP project as a Garageband graduate. About 3 weeks in I said, I gotta watch some basic instructional vids, I muddled through but learning on the fly its limitations. So now project over, I'm in learning mode and this was great. I saw different ways to do things. NOW...onto the Ultimate Guide to Busses because that stuff was driving me crazy and I now see the usefulness. Thank you
Thank you Nathan. Your support to the community along all this years is priceless. Incredibly useful to me. I miss your Finale tutos. Keep safe and healthy man ;)
Great video! The best beginner video I have come across. Touches on all the important things to know with just the right amount of relevant information. Coming from a semi-professional ProTools background many years ago, trying to learn a new interface is a bit of a challenge. I know what is possible but I have no idea how to get started with it. Thank you so much for making this. I'll definitely be checking out more of your videos.
Great introduction! Well organized and gave a really good high level overview of an introduction to the features. Covered some really important topics like busses and comps. That's not as common in many "intro" videos.
you sir have done what i set out for. i opened and used logic, and i have a good understanding of the basics. liked and subscribed. you got a great pace, nice interesting voice and cover your subject well. Kudos buddy
Thanks a lot! i just switched to logic after decades of other DAWs - and feeling like an absolute newbee. That was very very helpful!!! Especially comping and what to click for it and loop area! Great work :)
just watched this tutorial and I can honestly say after watching at least 10 beginners that this has been the best, covered everything I need to know and not just the real billy basic stuff which was easy to figure out myself Thank you.
Hey Nathan, I’m new to Logic, so glad I found your channel. You’re tutorial is on point, excellent pace and explanations. Subscribed and looking forward in look through all your other videos. Keep up the great work! 😎👍🏼
I’ll be getting logic in a few months so I figured I’d check this out first then revisit when I have the software in front of me and wow it feels like I already know so much
Thanks Nate, you saved me. This software is SOOO complex and hard to get around in unless you really know what you're doing. I spend too much time screaming at my screen.
Not sure how I missed this one, but solid video here. I’ve only been producing and using Logic for a few months. The tips in this video are a game changer for me. Thanks again Nathan!
"i dont do music using loops" I knew then that i clicked the right video....in all seriousness though you have a cool channel my guy...excellent content especially for a guy like me that plays music but never thought about recording and producing something somewhat seriously....liked and subscribed...
Thanks Nathan. Great overview. Liked and subscribed. I like the interface of Logic better than Ableton, but I’m not sure why. Anyways, I just switched.
I've been a Pro Tools guy for many years and I'm not happy with the way they went to the perpetual license. Just started tracking with LPX. I want to learn to be as savvy with Logic.
Brilliant Nathan, certainly gonna keep this one for future reference, yet again, things within logic that I was just not aware off, I am now! Thanks to you. I do have a question? I have created a track using Spitfire Core and I don't know if there is some kind of 'lock' facility, but when I created another software instrument track and open the point roll for some midi editing, all it shows in that window is the midi for the Spitfire Core midi? And I just can't get it to change? Sorry about the long reply, but hey! Great tutorial as always.
I like your demo, if you could get to your points quicker that would be awesome, elsewise your demo is great, not sure how else to mention it, thanks for your time.
I’m a respected multi instrumentalist - senior age - never used a daw- I have an old still working 2009 MBP Can you give me a sense of the differences in performance between my 2009 ( 8 gig ram - SSD HD 512) El Capitan !! A used 2012 MBP w Catalina that I can trick out And maybe even another level above the 2012 ? Money is an issue - if it weren’t I would just presumably buy newest Can you help me choosing computer to compose music with ? Can we work together to solve this , a personal zoom lesson?
Wow 🤩 loved this 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 really excellent content and so much covered in a short time! Definitely one of the best I have seen. I have been using logic for 2 months now and this is really helpful. I am producing hip hop currently so if you have any tips for rap ad libs or making a mix more base heavy that would be really helpful for me anyways. Going to watch your bus video next 👍🏼 many thanks 😊
How can I slow down the speed of the audio - aka. To hear the instructions at slower tempo ? I don’t see the button that can do that Was this question too basic to respond to??
at 19:25, let's open an empty channel strip track, go to the library and pick out a drum sound. how about "after party"? good. suddenly the sound starts playing. well how the hell did the sound start playing?
Nathan: Great explanations. Do you have a short tutorial on how to use Smart Tempo? I've got a problem with having the downbeat on 1 . . a track I have keeps putting the downbeat on 4 when Smart Tempo analyzes the track . . . and the help feature inside LP doesn't explain things well at all. Thanks for any help you can suggest.
Glad this helped you, Edward. No I don't have a video on that - sorry. That's not a feature I ever use, personally, because I always am starting in Logic and locking tempos in at the beginning with my material. So I'd have to dig into that specific feature.
@@NathanJamesLarsen Thanks. most of the time things sync up really well . . but I've got one track that is so syncopated that no matter what I try to do, LP keeps putting the downbeat on 4 instead of 1. I wish I could just drag the grid over one beat. I've tried using beat mapping and that helps, but it seems there aught to be an easier way.
I have a behringer midi fader controller and when I use it the faders are not in the same order as the tracks on the screen. How can I make them line up to where track one is track one on the controller etc. it’s so annoying the way it is.
Can you share how you connect the Native instrument keyboard and MKIII TO the system to use both midi controllers. Also, when trying to transfer beats from NI Machine, I see the tracks but no sound comes out...? Appreciate some guidance brother...thanks!
You just plug it in and Logic automatically finds them - the native instruments controller required installing specific software. You can look at controller settings in Logic to configure. And I don't use Machine so I can't really help ya there sorry!
How to make layers. and how to copy ,tracks say number 1 to track 3 , if i would a midi tracks been played from a audio track. how do i do that in logic x? want to build layers who is interesting'
Nathan, quick question... I have been recording 20 track sessions every week for about 6 months now without really any issues until about three weeks ago. These recording sessions are usually about an hour and a half of continuous recording. Problem I have encountered is this: I noticed my recording stops now randomly. I will have about 4-5 songs we are doing and when I go to stop recording at the end of the session, I notice the recording already stopped (no error messages), failing to record the last song or two. Any ideas why?
Too advanced. Most beginners want to record their voice speaking or a short snippet of guitar music to test the software. It's mainly advanced pros who want to jump into pre-recorded music and do fancy editing such as how strong the note is. Should make a proper beginner's tutorial that starts with the basics such as turning on the computer, hooking up an audio interface, opening the Logic Pro X window and setting preferences and closing and opening windows not needed and then recording the sound (such as pressing the R button and record button). And then saving the sound and bouncing it. Most of the stuff you have in this video is *NOT* for beginners. Try and put yourself in a beginner's shoes.
Who here is new to Logic and ready to crush it??
I use FL and ableton I like to learn logic pro x too since it’s industry standard

I'm so green..I bought a macbook pro in march and just figured out how to get my audio interface to connect to it yesterday..
does the flex pitch work without clicking in autotune pro?
