  • Every year, for Chinese New Year, we head down to Pingtung. That is where my father in law grew up and where his mother and brother still live. I wanted to give a quick peak at some of the local food we eat in Pingtung as well as a walk in the mountains where there is an old aboriginal village.
I was carrying the Canon 6D and the Tokina 16-28mm f2.8 Pro with me for all of the photos. Any video was filmed on my iPhone.

Those huts, barns, and buildings with thatched roofs were in incredibly good repair. This looked like a ghost town. Is anyone living here or is this simply a tourist attraction? A person could easily live there. Beautiful country.

These little villages and various buildings are scattered throughout the mountain forests. The ones that are just off the main road are mostly abandoned and used as a local tourist attraction. Some of the other buildings deeper into the forest still have people living in them, though. There were a few buildings I saw that actually had cars parked outside them and people eating inside (I didn't film those).

Great photos, the color and lighting renders well with this lens. Looks like F8 is a sweet spot for this lens. However 2.8 looked equally sharp.

I shoot it at f.8 often and don't have any issues. Always seems sharp and renders well. The choice to shoot mostly at f8 was just to insure that I would get as much in focus as possible, in most cases.

Great cabins, although the one at 8:45 surprises me. It's sunk into the ground. Wouldn't it flood in the rainy season? Or maybe the idea is the sink it in the ground so cooler air pools around it during the summer.

I know there is some type of reason for it, but I am not 100% sure what it is. Staying cool seems like a legitimate reason, though, as it gets very hot here.

I use it for family parties and everyday activities. After owning and still have from R6, R to 5D 1,2,3 and 4. Have to agree with you that 6D is simple to use and color have the best balance of organic and digital feel to it. I only use the R6 and R for helping my professional photographer friend only because it’s easier with the eye/face tracking, making it almost like shooting a point and shoot.
