    I'm honestly disappointed in the B team with this. The joking and everything is great and I enjoy the high level rolling, but forcing 2 people into an ego match? I assume the lad was joking, and even seemed nervous before the match but as stated in the video, Craig has a lot of influence. If he refused the match, we all know the whole gym would have crushed his soul.
    Another point, it seems Nora is more experience and wanted to prove she could beat a guy. From my point of view, she went full tournament on him. She was obviously pummeling for the leg, and the kid being inexperience was stiff, but she wanted that heel badly. His knee was straight and stiff while his knee was locked. Causing an awkward angle and she forced it causing a reap.
    What kind of grosses me the most is the demasculinizing jokes afterwards. "Oh I thought he would have lasted longer than 12 seconds" Does she not realized the long, expensive recovery that kid has? Smiling after destroying a fellow training partner's knee? Kind of environment is this gym promoting?

A lot of people with more experience than I do in the comments are saying that this could have been completely avoided. Lateral knee breaks are nasty. And yes, I know Craig apparently paid for the guy's surgery but that doesn't make any of this remotely okay. And, maybe I'm just not a psychopath but when I roll with somebody at my gym, even we're "going hard" and I put them in a reap/Z-lock (which I wouldn't do if I can tell they don't know anything about what's happening), I wouldn't actually go for a Z-lock lateral kneebar. Those come on fast, especially if people have no idea what's going on. A lot of black belts, including high level competitors especially in bigger weight classes don't even know what this is. I mean those guys BARELY know how to defend regular heel hooks. First, this was definitely a freak accident. Everyone's reactions - even Nora's - show genuine shock. Nora didn't even have the z lock secured, even if others could see she was going for it. A combination of Liam not knowing how much in danger he was while Nora attempting the z lock, Liam straightening his leg which was not the correct response to a z lock, and for some reason, Nora goes for an under hook on Liam's leg which seems to put some pressure on the knee. Shit happens and this totally sucks. Second, the pre and post interviews are all scripted and done after the accident - Craig addresses that this video is to help raise funds for Liam. Third, B Team covered the costs of Liam's medical bills, not leaving him to dry. I'm sure Craig and Nora felt like shit about it, but bjj is a risky contact sport, and this is the risk of training under intense pressure or high stakes - that added mental pressure can cloud judgement leading a partner to go too hard or not have the correct response. But, how else are you supposed to get better, if you want to compete, you have to train under pressure, with spectators, and with good training partners. Lastly, it's totally a B Team move to make a satire of something serious.

    Craig is not to blame he just wanted a fun match between the girl and the guy.
    The frickin girl is to blame for ripping apart the leg of someone obviously less skilled than her without giving him the chance to tap. If you break someone in competition, ok, but in the gym in a fun and friendly roll, thats totally not ok.

      From what you can see in the Josef Chen match from WNO, and from what I have experienced in the gym, people try to counter the reap/z-lock position by straightening their leg, which causes the lock to go instantly into the knee.
      You should never straighten your leg in that position. The outside pressure of the reaping leg is suprisingly strong. You have to basicly expose your own heel to take pressure off the knee.
      The Z-lock starts when you turn your hip out, because then, the pressure is applied through the hip and knee.
      I hope this explanation helps keeping more people safe in that position, both offensively and defensively.

    @jonathankennedy8392 Год назад +6

    The second camera gives a better view. Nora had his knee immobilized and was very intentionally putting significant force into bending Liam’s leg sideways. She has the experience to know how much danger she was putting her TRAINING PARTNER in. Given the small amount of sideways movement the knee can handle, the force she put into it is equivalent to ripping a full armbar on someone without giving them time to tap. This was reckless and irresponsible.
    At my gym there are no excuses for hurting someone like this - if your partner isn’t tapping because of ignorance/inexperience/stubbornness/whatever, you take the moral victory and move to another position - you don’t push the submission and risk injury. Some submissions don’t give you a pain warning before you’ve been injured and using those submissions should be restricted to people that have been trained to protect themselves and their partners. Liam should also have been trained to recognize the danger of that position before being put in a situation where it could be used on him.
    The difference in their levels of experience accentuates the negligence here but even if I was training with a BLACK BELT, I would avoid injurious pressure and ask later what they thought about the danger they were in. This is simple care and respect for everyone you train with.
