Yes Jeffrey Here, I won't forget ya when it comes down to re applying for Prime Inc. I hear this company loves rookie drivers! Once my contract job is up in 9 months. I am going to go for it!
I had a 2019 589 automatic like that and am GLAD i got a new 2020 Peterbilt 13 speed flat top ungoverned and none of the buzzers going off constantly from the worn out lines in the road.
There are definitely a lot of opinions out there about this topic. I went through all of last winter with super singles and didn't have any issues. However I do not have any experience with duals soI can't really say if one is better than the other in that aspect.
Peterbilts are the best in my opinion but I'm not a big fan of the 579 I like the classic looking Pete's like the 389 but any Pete is better than a Freightliner
All the trucks are that way but the new ones are much better. The 2017 I drove was really loud. Needed a super Trucker headset. The new 2018.5-2021 models are much better and about the same as the Peterbilt.
It’s neat to see a truck with bells and whistles, been in a company truck for 24 years and never see the interior how it’s intended to be. It’s amazing to me how fast the manual transmissions disappeared. Automatics were around when I started and now I guess all the bugs are worked out and boom last few years I hardly see one anymore. Nice video. Good luck to you.
Welcome to Peterbilt team. Pete air Leaf air ride suspension. That's what the space between the def tank and 100 gallon tank is for 150 gallons. Need 150 gallon tanks to go for miles and miss those high price fuel stops.
They also preload the terminals they have across the states into the gps for ya ? That’s nice , they sound like a really good company video by video you put out.
I agree! I think internationals with no respect are meant for someone that’s very short or small and really doesn’t need all that room! I’ve drove a international with no trailer and was happy and then they wanted me to attach and I said no! Hate the turn radius with the international! Almost drives like a car!
I drove everything and the kenworts and peterbuilts are just junk you will have nothing but def problems ...that and you need a football field to turn it around. I'm in a prostar and this thing turns like my camaro ss. it hits the bumps a little harder but ill live with it because its a joy getting in and out of tight spots like chicken farms and these tight ass parking at truck stops at 4 a.m.
I preer dual bud spaced tires in the back anyday over super singles. But super singles are much better than they used to be, and as long as you keep them aired up properly they won't be a problem, however if they're low on air even just a little they will have a pretty good chance of blowing out. My dad worked for Flying J before they were Pilot Flying J and they had super singles there and those guy's wouldn't air them tires up and they'd just blow out left and right compared to the duals.
@@JJtheTrucker haha, I have a great idea, take on a student, while he drives you can be on the catwalk running on your treadmill, then you can say you ran the country. You wouldn't be lying technically

So JJ, I noticed that you said that the mirrors were heated but my question to you is does that include the hood mirrors as well, are the hood mirrors heated as well as the door mirrors⁉️
I WISH! I'm actually surprised they haven't done that yet. Those really need to be heated. And power adjustable from in the cab. But alas, not yet. Maybe one of these days.
Great tour guys! Good work! You should check out the 22 Cascadia, it's still a freight shaker! Haha Oh! And look at 3M DUAL LOCK, it will change your life!
Nice truck bro. Even though you say its pretty much standard, it seems the standard offers a decent level of spec and the truck is very likable on the whole.
J.J......I apologize but I only have ever driven local. No desire to drive on the road but never say never. Love the Pete's but Freightliner still isn't to bad of a truck. I'm just getting to go back over your older videos so forgive me if I start asking questions you have answered already. You said that you have a three year lease where after that three year's the Tractor is your's. You also said that Prime only likes to keep there tractors for three year's. Is that just company owned tractors or do they tell you they want you to trade in for something new again? Also I'm curious as to what Prime pays to someone like me? 20 yrs, Or do you have a video where you break down pay, benefits ETC........Thank's J.J
Hey Joshua. They only keep their company trucks for 3 years. For a truck like mine that I purchase, I can go 4 years, then each additional year it needs to pass an inspection to keep going. So dor the pay and benefits, there are many options such as the division (Reefer, tanker or flatbed) and whether you're company, lease or owber/op, or with your own authority. Details can be found at www.driveforprime.com with a good breakdown.
I definitely like the dash layout and gauges better than the freightliner, other than the cup holders, and the smoother ride is a 100% improvement. The interior storage isn't as good or useful being it's all open without doors to keep things where they are. Maybe some nets would help?
Congratulations JJ on your truck upgrade....hope it helps make your money making adventures easier....stay safe on the road brother ...we rooting for you from Ndola Zambia 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲
I just started trucking and am already to quit. I m with Steven's and can't make any money. I'm broke and ready to go back to loading the trucks instead of driving one. I can do 500 to 650 away with no problem. Still broke
At Prime, I averaged $1200/ week during the slow season. It went up after C19. That was after truck payment, fuel, etc.. Before taxes and health insurance. Check them out.
Nice looking Peterbilt and hope you enjoy it. I'm definitely going to miss my Peterbilt. It was great catching up with you while you where in town. Stay safe.
Beautiful rig no doubt. Much better channel than that one called This guy trucks. Just my opinion. One concern though. Where are you frontal tow hooks? Would suck having to screw them in after they are needed.
Thanks Michael. The hooks are in a box under my bunk. I'll just let the tow truck driver put them in if they want to use them. Last time I had a truck towed, they didn't even use them. They hook on to the frame underneath the bumper.
No Hippie seems like a good dude to have around and know. Love the video JJ but you know we are going to need a second walk through when you are all moved in and ready to hit the road. Love the huge shield logo on the side, get the brand out there. Can’t get enough of the videos and hope you are enjoying the new rig. Can’t wait for the next video!
I hear ya there. You're not alone. Prime allows you to finance your own truck from a dealership (although they're really picky about the specs) and you can get a Cummins that way. I was so close to doing that but I didn't qualify 😢
The Freightliner will turn on a dime and give you a nickel back. As for the Peterbilt, sure I can turn that thing around however I will need 40 acres to do so. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
@@JJtheTrucker yea that's what I have heard. I've always wanted to upgrade to a peterbilt but I have heard from a bunch of other drivers that tight turns are a nightmare

JJ that isn’t just a truck, it should be your pride and joy.if would have had that 33 years ago I’d still be turning wheels!! But I have a question. Back in the day it was a known fact that sliding the 5th wheel all the way back would make trucks ride significantly better.I don’t hear that mentioned anymore. And yes I know the axels have to scale out so sometimes you can’t slide back so much.
I haven't heard that about the ride it I had to slide it forward because the way the air hoses are set up, I broke the electric plug while turning because it was too far back. So I moved it forward to give the lines more slack.
I guess moving the trailer back reduces aerodynamics but 30+ years ago that wasn’t really thought about. Old trailers were usually spring ride and when the trailer tires hit bumps it would actually jerk the truck up and down, this was called “ trailer slap”.sliding the 5th wheel would mostly just make the ass end of the truck jerk improving ride for the driver.
I hated super singles. I even bought a stack of tires for my trucks and trailers. And still decided I’d try super singles on my trailer. And I have to say I’ve been loving them. They ride smoother than duals on my trailer. Prime being a huge super single company. You’re perfectly fine with them.
The new freightliner table is under the bed it turns into a table with 2 chairs idk the new premium freightliner is better than this peterbuilt only thing that’s it’s not better in is ride quality
Apologize if a stupid question, but how is there not a dual rear tires, yet they come with dual tires on both axles, and the. they come change both the tires and wheels. Why is it that way? Doesn’t seem logical.
Good question. There are many advantages for super singles over dual tires. The number one reason is fuel mileage. Super singles get better fuel mileage than the duals.
JJ the Trucker - Thank you, I omitted a key word though. I meant to ask about the dual tire option... you said it wasn’t available. Why would it not be available when it ships that way, and the cost to change them.
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I cant fathom how almost silent that motor is. There is nothing I do not like about your new truck. Peterbilt King of trucks. Long live the King. P.S. When you start running can you let us know how that set up pulls hills?
There is, but it's under the bunk facing the rear, and the stereo sucks. Not a big enough Amp built in to get it to thump. Not much of a difference from the Freightliner, other than the wasted storage space lol.
I'm in a 2020 Cascadia now and just I have just about every square inch of space filled up, I can't imagine loosing that much storage. I can't wait to see how you overcome that hurdle. I'd love to get into a Pete but the lack of storage would be the only deal breaker for me.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be Jason. The cabinets are deeper and the bunk up top is much larger. The top bunk in the Peterbilt is actually larger than the bottom bunk on the Freightliner, which made a big difference. What I really do miss is all the storage of front in the drivers in area.
It’s about time Peterbilt designed an interior that looks good. They are stuck in the 70’s with the fake leather and button covers used in all other models. “Classic Coffin” diamond stitched covers need to be burned, buried and never resurrected.
The dealership can make some adjustments to some of the stuff, or turn it off completely. IF you own the truck. If it's a lease or company truck, the dealership will need the owners permission.
Congrats! I just picked up my truck yesterday (Wednesday). I was so fortunate, they had 4 brand new Peterbilts ready to go! I snagged a blue one. Spent all day getting it ready. Hopefully I'll get on my first load tomorrow. I hate I missed ya at Springfield. Safe travels!
You NEVER wanna stop the truck from regen if it starts by itself. If it kicks on by itself your truck is already in stage 2 and you shitting it off can mess of up as to kicking you right into stage 4 where the truck won’t go over 10/20 mph and then you need to be towed in. If it kicks on by itself it’s already been telling you to do it an you haven’t so it’s telling you to step aside it’s taking over and if you try to fight with it it’ll win and totally shut you down
I like the drop nose. How much more fuel efficient does that make it? Also, does Prime not allow you to get manuals anymore or did you just opt for the automatic? Also, does it have an APU? If not, you better not come to CA because I don't think you can sit at a truck stop overnight and idle all night because of CA environmental concerns.
I run a 2020 kw t680 there are a few differences between the t680 and the 579 both are pretty good trucks. The only thing i dont like about my t680 is it has a mx13.
Thanks S Diggity. There are quite a few advantages with SS, the main ones being better fuel mileage and longer wear. As a fleet, it really adds up and overcomes the disadvantages.
Thanks Alex, but of course I needed Lyle. He's a good friend and I have a ton of respect for him. It's also good to have guests on every once in awhile to appear in my videos, don't you think? 😁
Turning radius, you're not kidding. Every U-Turn has turned into a 5-Point Turn! The Freightliner wod turn on a dime and give you a nickel back. The Pete turns on a half-dollar! 😂🤣😂🤣 Good to know on the anntenae. I'll check some out next time I'm in Iowa.
Sooooooo Happyyyyyyyyyy to see you on your own truck. All the best.. And so much informative about the details ...thank you ... And be safe on the road
Super singles if you have a flat you stop right there. With duels if one blows or goes flat you have another one to keep it off the ground so you can get to a place to have it fixed. I would never have super singles on any truck I drove.
Charles, that is literally the only advantage of duals compared to singles. But here's the thing. If the duals go flat or bow all the way apart, you can do that. If the tread is still hanging on after the blowout, you can't do that or you'll tear everything up. When singles get a puncture, they're more likely to go flat instead of blow out, and you can still limp them to a tire place. I've had that happen twice. To me, the many other advantages outweigh this one disadvantage that may happen occasionally.

Great video JJ.. very detailed.. I’m gonna start with a lease then I’m gonna go lease purchase when I save up some $$... what was the biggest obstacle for you when changing over to your new truck?
There were a lot of obstacles, and I'll be doing some videos to details what those obstacles were at a later date. As far as the lease portion the biggest obstacle was having the truck ready for delivery. I'll be doing a video on that as well.
@@JJtheTrucker Thanks JJ.. I'll be looking out for those videos... I'm finishing up my PSD training and getting my CDL tomorrow 10/1 from Prime in Springfield, MO so wish me Luck!
hey jj i was wondering is the truck a little bit bigger for the tv you wanted wich couldnt fit in your other truck if you said it in your video just say
They're about the same size. Prime's detail shop never thinks outside the box. The Freightliner could have fit a 32 inch or larger TV, the only issue is that where it mounts to is the plastic cabinet which may not hold a whole lot of weight. It probably would have been fine with a 32-inch but nothing bigger. Peterbilt has a much more sturdy mount that is embedded directly into the truck, but it only holds a 24in. Prime was able to attach a larger TV mount to that small TV mount to get a 32in TV in there. That works just fine but there are ways to get an even larger TV in here. You just have to be thoughtful of the bunk needing to raise up so the TV would have to be more flush up against the wall.
If your going with the blacked out grill you should look into getting the wheels powder coated black or black chrome with the tanks the same. That would look great together, actually it’ll look better that way the grill ain’t one color where chrome should be and the wheels another. It’ll all match up and look sweet. I had a WL900 Kenworth all done up with a cat, twin turbos , 18 speed, the list goes on and that thing moved like there wasn’t a load on it even when I was on the “very heavy” side of the scales. But anyways it had the wheels, tanks, and 6inch straight stacks all blacked out with the body (it was a dump truck) the same, all black chrome. The cab was a metal faked cherry red with a pearl coat over it. Man it was nice but I had to wash it every other day from going in and out of the dumps everyday . Wasn’t exactly the best kinda work for a truck that looked like that but I loved it. 😊

The new freightliner table is under the bed it turns into a table with 2 chairs idk the new premium freightliner is better than this peterbuilt only thing that’s it’s not better in is ride quality
Yeah, there are certainly things I miss about the FL compared to the Pete but the ride quality and some other things make it totally worth it (IMHO).
How much is the payment for this thing? Do you even make money?
Pffft... The payment is $1068/week and I'm making quite a bit of $$$ 🤑🤑🤑
And in 3 years, it'll be all mine and I'll make even more!
@@JJtheTrucker good deal, best of luck
Thanks Tulio
Its all about the engine baby! and that cummins under the hood aint so good...tje truck is nice but the engine..ill pass
I don't have a Cummins under the hood.
Prime is an awesome company
Apologize if a stupid question, but how is there not a dual rear tires, yet they come with dual tires on both axles, and the. they come change both the tires and wheels.
Why is it that way? Doesn’t seem logical.
Good question. There are many advantages for super singles over dual tires. The number one reason is fuel mileage. Super singles get better fuel mileage than the duals.
JJ the Trucker - Thank you, I omitted a key word though. I meant to ask about the dual tire option... you said it wasn’t available. Why would it not be available when it ships that way, and the cost to change them.
Prime is just really big on low fuel mileage and consistency within their Fleet.
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I cant fathom how almost silent that motor is. There is nothing I do not like about your new truck. Peterbilt King of trucks. Long live the King. P.S. When you start running can you let us know how that set up pulls hills?
Thanks Rod, and you bet. I'll be rolling through west Montana and the Idaho panhandle here shortly. Those are some major hills. I'll let ya all know.
Is there really a 15 inch sub in the Peterbilt . If so you'll be bumping ...LOL...
I have the same truck and I’m curious to how you took out that tv mount and replaced with a mount that fits a 32
I attached the new mounting arm to the existing built-in mount. Just drilled some holes and used bolts to secure it.
Let's see how you set up the TV, microwave, and fridge.
Will do. Once everything is done, I will do another vid.
I'm going to work for Stevens transport next month. Can't wait to get on the road.!!!
@JJtheTrucker how do I bypass the warning alarms on my 2025 Pete?? Like following to close and the lane change alarms
The dealership can make some adjustments to some of the stuff, or turn it off completely. IF you own the truck. If it's a lease or company truck, the dealership will need the owners permission.
I've been driving 26 years and I'm just now developing road rage bc of these alarms lol
@@JJtheTrucker well damn I was afraid of that thanks brother
Congrats to you too! Hope to run into you someday.
Are you comparing apples to apples?????? What about a price comparison????
Not really sure what you're referring to. The video is about 3 years old so you might have to refresh my memory LOL
Just got rid of my 2015 Peterbuilt
What did you get?
@@JJtheTrucker I haven’t got another truck yet but most likely getting another 579 Pete
If not, you better not come to CA because I don't think you can sit at a truck stop overnight and idle all night because of CA environmental concerns.
bright fog lights r important because it does nto matter i you blind people you meet
Bright fog lights are important so you don't run into people you meet.
Love the truck i think it might be better than the frightliner but what do you say JJ
Thank you. I think you're right, but I'm going to drive his truck for a while before I really make that determination.
Many congratulations JJ ,,, 🎉🎉🎊🎊💐💐💐🍫🍫 wish you very best 👍👍👏👏👏💐💐💐
Thanks Mandeep
I run a 2020 kw t680 there are a few differences between the t680 and the 579 both are pretty good trucks. The only thing i dont like about my t680 is it has a mx13.
I believe the subwoofer under the bed is the same like mine in my 579 which I Believe is a 10 inch not 15 inches 😂😂😂
Yas! Nice job man keep at it! Congrats! I am not a truck driver but is it normal to have the RPM at 5 when the truck is in park?
Yep, Diesel engines operate at much lower rpms than gasoline engines.
Beautiful ride man congratulations! Why does Prime make you guys run super singles?
Thanks S Diggity.
There are quite a few advantages with SS, the main ones being better fuel mileage and longer wear. As a fleet, it really adds up and overcomes the disadvantages.
Very nice JJ, you did good on your truck tour, didn't even need that guy
Thanks Alex, but of course I needed Lyle. He's a good friend and I have a ton of respect for him. It's also good to have guests on every once in awhile to appear in my videos, don't you think? 😁
@@JJtheTrucker defenetly my friend. The logos look great especially the one on the top of the truck
👍
2 things you'll miss the turning radius of the freightliner and 2 swap those antennas for the cb they suck. The stock antennas dont have a large range
Turning radius, you're not kidding. Every U-Turn has turned into a 5-Point Turn!
The Freightliner wod turn on a dime and give you a nickel back. The Pete turns on a half-dollar! 😂🤣😂🤣
Good to know on the anntenae. I'll check some out next time I'm in Iowa.
@@JJtheTrucker most newer vehicles have less turning radios i keep seeing a pattern and its really unfortunate
The Freightliner and International still have really good turning radiuses.
@@JJtheTrucker I see people who own International and i think "why those are such crap trucks"
Kearsey loves hers
Absolutely horrible placement for fuel and def. that's a deal breaker for me. Step ur shit up peterbilt
I can't argue that point. I've made videos since regarding that very issue. Terrible.
@@JJtheTrucker hahaha nice! Be safe out there brother! I'm headed on a load to New Jersey on Wednesday
Sooooooo Happyyyyyyyyyy to see you on your own truck. All the best.. And so much informative about the details ...thank you ... And be safe on the road
Thanks
Pretty sure I saw this truck headed westbound on 84 today?
Sorry for the late reply, but yeah sounds about right. I've been on 84 a lot this summer.
Nice peterbuilt truck JJ good luck with it safe travels 🇺🇸👍🏻🦅.
Thanks BC
You willl love it! I have the same one! In black! The ride is so comfortable!
Today was day 3 and so far, soooooooo smoooooooooooth 😊
@@JJtheTrucker . JJ What I speak of about the tires is not from just guessing, but from 17 years of experence .
I never use the in-dash gps
If you want to redo your plan enroute turn you have to stop and park the truck .
I stick to my rand McNally
Do you know truckers never die they just get their peters rebuilt
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I heard they never die... They're just re-dispatched to a new highway.
(AC/DC reference) lol

You have been lucky. I remember when supersingles came out. It was hard to get used to. Good luck
Good luck Tristan 🍀🍀🍀
Did he say what the wheel base is? I don't want to watch it again.

Love your video man keep it up
You did the right thing by getting a peterbuilt.
hey jj i was wondering is the truck a little bit bigger for the tv you wanted wich couldnt fit in your other truck if you said it in your video just say
Where can I get that done?
