Thanks Patrick for watching! I have two more pieces of this burl (one is promised to another turner) and another whole uncut burl on the shelf! Love turning burl, it’s always awesome what come out!
Thanks for watching Rick! It will need to get better as it has warped and cracked slightly since turning. I thought it was dry but I was just shy! Another couple weeks and I’ll mount it back up and finish it off! Probably will be an off camera finish though.
Thanks Doug! To be honest I don’t remember if I did SS but I’m sure I did as it’s just standard for me. I was also having issues with the phone and lost a couple clips, that may have been one of them!
The Pohl Barn Productions I forgot to ask in the other comment... would you be interested in a cap? I got three off the burl and a center piece too for a box.
Bob I enjoyed using the Jet 1221vs. It is a great lathe for projects 12 inches and smaller. Plenty of power and creature comforts to make turning fun. I still have the lathe for smaller projects and finishing but as we it’s you larger projects we’re calling my name. Really the only reason I upgraded. Keep an eye on FB marketplace and Craig’s list you can find pretty good deals. But beware, there are some not so good ones. Learn as much as you can about what to look for! Thanks for watching
I've always wondered one thing about lathes. You turn the wood to the right to lock it in place on the spur, then the wood spins to the left while you turn. Wouldn't that naturally loosen the wood from the spur or do I have it backwards - it naturally tightens? Great video.
Paul as the piece turns the worm screw tightens more into the wood. The problem comes in when the wood is not sound enough or you drill too big of a hole you can strip the threads out leaving a wobbly piece.
Jeff thanks for watching! I did notice the bogging down in the first few minutes of turning of this piece. I solved it by dropping one pulley slower. Really doesn’t effect the usable speed for a larger item but gives great torque! Ps I upgraded this summer to a 2hp 220v lathe and.... yes 1hp is less than joyful now that I know what 2 does 😇.
Great work. Would be even better if less polishing, and more information on successive RPMs as you refined the piece, and # grit of sandpaper leading up to polishing. Maybe even mentioning transition to 4jaw chuck. Would inform newer, less knowledgeable turners of what you did.
Milton Parent thanks for watching. I’m still trying to figure out all the video stuff. I enjoy turning, not so much the editing. I will continue to adjust and try to get better at it! Thanks for your comment!
Thanks Don! I got the memo, check out some of my newer videos. Ps you do have a volume/mute button on your device which solves the music on your end! Thanks for watching 😉.
I have a bunch of black cherry burl. A guy gave it to me for free and boy, it turns out to be beautiful wood. Thank you for another great video.

That is how it goes. Sometimes i think my bowls are half wood and half CA glue. Nature will not be tamed, that makes it fun.
Gorgeous burl!
Ok. Someone was binge watching last night 🤣. Thanks Carol for watching and your support!
Very nice,, thanks for sharing
Thanks you! No problem!
I'm jealous of the burl and the lathe both. 🤪
Beautiful turning!
Rebecca Hewett thank you! No need to be jealous! If I don’t get back to the garage soon I might just have to send the whole shooting match your way 🤣
Really pretty! Congrats on the new lathe!
Thanks Joyce!
Great job!
Thanks for watching!
WOW ! Awesome grain in that burl buddy, Nicely done. no sanding sealer ? I may have to try that. the finish is great too. Thumbs up as always.

As your gouges cut, it will actually tighten everything up. You called in that you have it backwards.

have you found that this lathe for a 1 hp is underpowered,,i can go to making a cut and it bogs down,,,dont have enough torque,,,

Thank you for watching and commenting! I will try to remember to include more informational data in future turnings.
Music should not be louder the voice🤫

Should have left the live edge
Sweet thanks for the comment! When you start putting videos up of your burl turns you can leave a live edge! Merry Christmas!
