- Use of the death penalty is exploding around the world, according to a new Amnesty International report. Most executions are happening in China, though authorities don't disclose official data.
The second biggest issuer of the death penalty is Iran. And since the death of the young woman, Jina Mahsa Amini, in police custody triggered mass protests last year, executions have risen sharply.
Raha Bahreini is a human rights lawyer and Iran researcher at Amnesty International and talks about the 80% increase in executions in Iran in 2022.
The number of people executed last year spiked to its highest level in 5 years, according to Amnesty International .

Once government loses the peoples trust it is very difficult to regain it.
Change in government is often the only solution once it oversteps the trust of its people.

Last year Israel executed 170 Palestinians, 30 children, without trial. This year, it has already executed 151 the same way. They will surpass Saudi Arabia's total of 196 last year.

India is not a failed state, and has grown far more than Iran or Namibia. India actually has a hope to become an amazing economy even after a century of British rule. Iran has seen economic decline since the 1970s, and ever since the nuclear deal ended they have been struggling, and India is also democratic unlike Iran.

Iran has a fairly strong military industrial complex, safe streets, cleaner water, better food, fairly strong automobile manufacturing, healthier population, and better educated population than india even though Iran has had crippling sanctions imposed on them while india is a strategic partner with the West.

We need to catch up on executions here in the US, as being soft on violent crime doesn’t seem to be working out too well.
It means that system isn't adapting fast enough, not that execution helps - it doesn't

The safest countries in the world doesn't have capital punishment. And to have capital punishment, you first need a good legal system. No country with capital punishment have a good legal system. Maybe....maybe...

The state shouldn’t be executing anybody. It’s disturbing that so many of the advocates of “limited gov’t” support giving the state this power (not saying that’s you). No justice system is perfect. Mistakes will be made. How many innocent people are expendable?
If killing is wrong, then the state along with the individual should not be doing it. Plus it does not act as much of a deterrent.

In my western views that's messed up, but I don't know anything about the situation of the case or the charges or the legal system in Iran so who am I to condemn something I have such little info about. If I was being executed I'd say I was tortured and forced to confess as well. I'm just sayin I live here so who am I to judge what they do over there when we have a shitload of the same problems here....
Iran executed 570 people in 2022. That is a 80% increase compared to the previous year, 2021. The Iranian nation was the third highest user of the death penalty worldwide.
These figures demand criticism, regardless of any 'western views'.
