I thought I would take you all on a quick trip with me to a few of the record shops I like to hit up fairly regularly! Let's see if I find any goodies...
Some great buys there. Used to live in the Burwood area of Sydney and made regular trips to Newtown when Revolution Records which later became Postmortem Records was in full swing. It was an absolute must irrespective of what metal genre you were partial to. It had a greater metal selection than Red Eye and more consumer friendly prices than Utopia. It was owned by a bloke called Michael who was an encyclopedia of knowledge when it came to metal. Nice to see Newtown can still be relied upon for awesome vinyl and CD shopping. Always worth visiting the Enmore Road environs. Happy listening and cheers for the trip down memory lane.
Great story mate, yeah I went to Revolution a few times. He had some obscure stock, I got all the early Red Harvest cds before they were big from him. Never saw Postmortem though!
@@ExplosiveAction Postmortem's address was 101 Enmore Road. For all intents and purposes it fulfilled the same function as Revolution. I used go in the day after Christmas as Michael would knock 25% off all stock so you could really find some gems and save a nice few dollars in the process. He used do some of the European Festivals too should anyone doubt his commitment to all things metal. Not an easy or cheap undertaking when Kingsford Smith is your point of departure.
Great video Simon! I enjoyed seeing where you go digging! That first shop had a good vinyl selection! I don’t have any shops in my area anything like that unfortunately! Got some 2nd hand shops, but they don’t really have the best metal stock!! Love that Samael album, nice pick up that mate!!🤘🏻
I was really hoping the shouting dude was going to pop out somewhere in this video and you didn't disappoint haha That first shop really has a great selection. We have a few decent stores over my way but nothing like that. Great video 🤘🤘
Great vid. Takes me back to the 80s when I was living in Wagga and every school holiday I would travel to Sydney and visit Utopia records in the city. I collected cassettes as they were about half the price of cds. Now converted to vinyl but the prices are rediculous. Always enjoy the hunt for a grail.
@@ExplosiveAction that would be awesome. I live on the Central Coast now and it's a pain going to Sydney. There's not much ao a selection of metal music up this end. Newcastle has a few record shops but that's a 40 min drive each way.
Cool video man, something new, really enjoyed it. Damn, the first box on vinyl already kicks ass, we have a shop here too, i think like 2, one only has classic bm releases, another is better but nothing underground. I was surprised when i saw that Old Tower, have to go to Helsinki abroad to get really good stuff😂
Thanks man! Yeah the Old Tower surprised me, but I guess that album must be on a bigger label like 20 Buck or Profound, as that's the kind of stuff Repressed get in
Yeah it sucks about the resurgence down there, I hope you guys get through it quick, and I doubly hope they put out the spot fires here before it takes hold again
Great picking in Sydney 🤘Death Angel (even though it would be my 3rd copy) and Hellbringer would have come home with me. Love it when a good clean and scrub can bring a record up a grade or two. Cheers 🍻
I was going to give you hell for skipping over Cauldron Black Ram vinyl twice, but since you bought Skullduggery, I'm very happy. Love those riffmasters.
While I'm not into music I enjoyed the video, and that opening made me laugh. You should do a video for movie shopping, all the places you normally go to
I've considered that before but I've almost missed the boat on that, my favourite movie shops are gone, and a video in a generic JB HiFi wouldn't be too exciting..
Aaaahhh, metal hunting, some very nice records there Simon. The album with the brain cover you saw and wondered what the band was it is from the most famous (I think) Hungarian heavy metal band of the 1980s, Pokolgep. This album is from 1990 actually, it's their fourth album titled Metál az ész and it is pretty good one, as also are the previous ones and the next one from the band

Absolutely fantastic video!!! That intro was so good, the screaming train driver :p
Haha thanks man, the Caution guy needed to get a second job!

Cheers Marc! Even just five years ago I'd have said the same, but since records bounced back, it seems finding metal in the wild has too!

Thanks! I knew I wanted him somewhere in this and it just worked out too well lol

Thanks man! Yeah I didn't feel like going into the heart of the CBD today for Utopia and Red Eye. Perhaps I'll do a video on that one day!

Yeah that would be a long trek in!

When Victoria is finally cleared of being a leper colony I'll head up to check those shops too .

Cheers man! I need to give that Death Angel a listen and see what I think of it, might go back for it!
What fantastic selections at these shops. Those Ulthar and Oath Of Cruelty albums have been heavy in my rotation since their releases.
Both great albums! I need to revisit again soon.
I was going to give you hell for skipping over Cauldron Black Ram vinyl twice, but since you bought Skullduggery, I'm very happy. Love those riffmasters.
Haha I noticed at least two different Cauldron LPs when I was reviewing the footage after! I might need to get some more material from them now
Great scores. I particularly dig the Cauldron Black Ram and Oath of Cruelty records. Oath is the perfect mix of Blasphemy and Slayer. Stay safe.
That's a great description of Oath of Cruelty, actually.
Cool video. A good haul there. Good stuff.
Cheers mate!

Explosive Action vinnies perhaps 😉 lol
Love this video :D
Cheers!
Hahaha the intro killed me!
Hahaha! That was bloody time consuming
Awesome record haul 🙂👍
Cheers!

I did listen to it and it didn't do much for me in the end!
@@ExplosiveAction That's fair, it's in Hungarian and maybe not as heavy as the cover would imply
That Voidceremony album is awesome.
Totally! I need to stick it on again
Great video, I try to get to the record store in Savannah but America didn’t take this whole virus thing seriously, so it’s not the easiest :/
Yes it looks pretty scary over there, I hope you can go record shopping soon!
Man, riding an empty train must be super weird. Gonna be honest, I am super curious what was in those punk and hardcore sections haha.
I thought you might be! I've never actually flipped through them haha
Have you heard that Celesial Pain - Aggression you flipped past? Amazing and severely underrated black/thrash with Unanimated members.
No I haven't heard that, but having Unanimated members interests me. I'll check it out, cheers!

Can someone please tell me the name of those bands?
Gardsghastr is the first one.
Why dont we have these shops in Germany :(
That surprises me. I had assumed Europe was filled with metal stores!
Are you a fan of Silverchair?
Nope, cannot stand grunge music! All my friends loved them when they were big, and they were truly big over here, but that style is not for me
Buddy skips right over Rust in peace picture disc… smh
It's a picture disc - of course I skipped over that trash!
Sydney trains are so much better than Brisbane ones
I've never been on a Brisbane train!
Then don't!!!..you'll catch something
Bahahaha!
