    Tesla have always been just a unbelievable band . Me growing up on the Texas , Louisiana gulf coast we keep that southern rock blues stuff forever in tow . Tesla always had that vibe , even though California boys , they instantly had that Allman vibe . 5 man was a terrific album , the Lodi cover with the acoustic versions of their stuff , classic live album . I still say track on first album , We’re No Good Together is one the best vocals you will hear from the genre .

    It frustrates me when bands censor their own album covers like Exodus (Bonded By Blood) & Motley Crue (Shout At The Devil) so they can sell their CD's at walmart or target. They could at least have the "original" art work inside (on the other side of the booklet) so after you buy it you can flip it around.

    I think I'm just going to sit out these Record Store Visit For Metalheads videos by just shutting up and leaving it to the experts (like Brendon) who know WAY more about the genre than I do. The comments I posted about the birth of metal made me look like a fool. I say I am a casual metalhead. I mean I like metal, and I listen to it. I like the iconic traditional classic metal artists (Ozzy, Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Dio, Motorhead, Queensryche, Saxon, Voivod, Leatherwolf, etc.,) progressive metal, female-fronted metal (including more modern symphonic and melodic metal artists like Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Epica and The Dark Element) and of course the Big 6 of thrash (the Big 4 plus Testament and Metal Church.) I'm still even into female-fronted glam metal artists and the heavier side of glam metal (early Crue, QR, GN'R, Dokken, Ratt, TS, W.A.S.P., Y&T, Scorpions, Kix, Skid Row, Bang Tango, Victory and others like them.) But metal is NOT really my main genre, while classic rock is. Metal albums are very collectable and expensive (sometimes unaffordable,) with exception of a few. But that being said, I am an amateur when it comes to metal. In fact, I'm a very opinionated amateur. So I've really NO business being here.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  Год назад +1

      Sounds like you’re a bigger Metalhead than you think you are. But I take your meaning. I’d say my main interest is Rock music as well. I definitely own more Rock than Metal.

  • @davej.meister5421
    @davej.meister5421 Год назад

    Many people say Black Sabbath is the band that began metal. However, I had the Hit Parader 20th Anniversary of metal magazine issue from 1988. And there was an interview with Ozzy where he said while Sabbath very well might be the very first traditional metal band, he does NOT credit them for beginning the genre. He mentioned that metal has its roots, as in metal's influences. Sabbath is NOT the very roots of metal, according to Ozzy. Every interview I have heard him speak, especially during his multiple MTV and Rockline appearances, Ozzy said "there would be NO Black Sabbath if there were NO Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or the Beatles. There was actually heavy rock music before metal (Ozzy made reference to "Helter Skelter," which is his favorite song by his favorite band.)" I couldn't agree more with Ozzy. There would be NO metal if NOT for Hendrix, Zeppelin, Purple, Iron Butterfly, Beatles or ANY of the heavier bands from the British Invasion. Very based comment. There is a lot of truth to that. Even Dee Snider during his House of Hair show includes a "Greasy Roots of Metal" feature. Dee has played NOT only Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple, but the heavy songs that came (before Sabbath,) including "Helter Skelter." He has also played heavy 60s songs by The Rolling Stones, The Who and Cream. Ozzy and Dee are not alone. Several other metal icons like Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford have cited heavy non-metal bands that came before metal. They too have said that people don't realize how heavy of a song "Helter Skelter" was back in the day. Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante cites Ringo Starr as one of his Top 5 drummers (like Ozzy and other metal icons mentioned above, he referenced "Helter Skelter.") And Metallica were influenced by Queen, who are NOT typically heavy metal, although they clearly inspired the glam metal movement. Bret Michaels of Poison said his band was influenced by NOT only Slade, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Van Halen and Queen, but also The Beatles and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  Год назад +1

      Yeah I don’t go by that. Also it’s just Ozzy and the band being humble IMO. Yes there are proto-Metal bands that came before Black Sabbath that were heavy, durgy, and played dark music. But none of them did it like Sabbath. They are the FIRST Metal band IMO and most anyone you ask including documentary film maker Sam Dunn. Check out his film Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey and also his VH1 tv series called Metal Evolution. I find the outside interpretation far more reliable due to all the research, interviews, and experience that went into both projects. 👍

      Sabbath started metal nothing sounded like that debut album...

    • @davej.meister5421
      @davej.meister5421 Год назад

      @@BrendonSnyder I think I saw that documentary when it first came out back in the days. I get what Sam Dunn, Martin Popoff and all the other metal experts are saying. But, if I recall, Dunn and the others behind the creation of that film make little to no mention of where the genre got its heavy sound, or what inspired or compelled Ozzy and Sabbath to create that sound (and I do hear "Helter Skelter" and Zeppelin in Sabbath's music.) The genre's influences are barely mentioned. So unfortunately, I do go by looking at the roots and influences of the genre. And I agree with Ozzy and other metal icons of what they said. You cannot have metal if you didn't have the proto-metal or heavy rock that preceded it. And, imo, those are what seeded and rooted the genre. You know, one thing leads to another. That's just an opinion.

    • @davej.meister5421
      @davej.meister5421 Год назад

      @@anti7928 Yes. But they are NOT the very roots of metal, imo. Metal was clearly influenced (and seeded) by the heavy rock that preceded the genre. Ozzy credits "Helter Skelter" in almost every interview, especially his ones on Rockline. And you fail to mention the other music that inspired Sabbath to create the heavier music that would become the metal genre. Sabbath may very well be the pioneers and originators of metal, but they're NOT the godfathers of metal. The proto-metal scene preceded Sabbath, most notably Zeppelin, Purple and even King Crimson ("21st Century Schizoid Man," which Ozzy covered 2 decades ago, was pretty heavy for 1968.) It's so unbelievable that most metalheads almost never credit or make ANY mention the band's heavier side of their roots and influences. Metal did NOT just come out of the blue. It had to be influenced by a heavy sound that preceded it.

  • @davej.meister5421
    @davej.meister5421 Год назад

    Although the heavier side of the glam metal scene such as QR, TS, Dokken, W.A.S.P., MSG (pre-Robin McAuley) and early Crue are technically heavy metal, I never really considered Bon Jovi, Poison or ANY of the poppy glam metal bands to be genuine metal, imo. Jovi are without question AOR/melodic rock. They were influenced by the likes of Queen, Journey, Styx, Foreigner and Boston. I would NEVER consider Nelson to be metal, either. They also are AOR/melodic rock, imo.

    I'm only a casual metalhead. I like most traditional metal, especially Ozzy, Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Dio and Motorhead, but the heavier/darker stuff (like King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Overkill, Death, Morbid Angel, or bands that scream or growl all the way through their music) are just not for me. KD/MF's worship of Satanism turns me off completely, being a God-fearing person of Faith. I used to be huge on glam metal, and I still play and listen to it today, but it's no longer a favorite genre, either. I will forever be an AOR/melodic rock, prog, hard rock (Rush, AC/DC, Zeppelin, Purple, Thin Lizzy, UFO, Uriah Heep, Robin Trower, Runaways, Triumph, etc.,) Southern rock, and general classic rock kind of guy. I just like my variety.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  Год назад

      So you’re just a “casual” metalhead…. but in your other posts you definitively said Black Sabbath wasn’t the first Metal band as though your experience with Metal was so deep you could make that claim. Also Mercyful Fate & King Diamond do not worship the devil, it’s just part of an act and lyrically a topic. No more than Slayer are satirists & murderers because of their imagery & lyrics or W.A.S.P. for that matter. Don’t continue with the rumors, facts do matter.
