I had the pleasure of meeting her, a couple of times. She was an extremely kind, gentle person who seemed mostly unaffected by her fame and fortune. She was a real sweetheart - very down-to-earth. Rest in peace, Aretha.....you were absolutely one-of-a-kind.

What an inspiration to millions or singers, millions of women, millions of African-Americans, and the billions who have enjoyed her music over the decades. The very first time I heard Aretha Franklin on the radio, the song "Freeway Of Love" was hot on the charts in 1985. I grew up listening to her classics and loved her music ever since. There's just not enough words to describe her greatness. Still in shock...but at least now you've gone Home, and there's no more suffering... Long live The Queen Of Soul! My heart is so heavy. I'm one of the old kids who spent a lifetime moving to the sounds that great lady made. No one can fill her shoes. May God bless her family and all who know that we don't ever have to put our love for her in the past tense. The body is gone but that's not what we love about her. I'm a millennial but i know who Aretha Franklin is, i came to know her when i was watching glee and then mercedes jones sang natural woman, i heard Celine Dion cover of it and decided to look for it on youtube; while looking, i saw that there was another Aretha Franklin cover by mercedes jones which was Ain't no way and it sounded so good, so i decided to look for Aretha Franklins original versions of her songs and then didn't even realized i was already listening to a playlist of her songs, chains of fools, spirit in the dark, i knew you were waiting for me, etc.
Her voice gave her songs life, like she's telling a story, like somehow you've been through it all, making it all sentimental.

I was so saddened to hear about the loss of the queen of soul! I’ve never heard a voice like hers and never will again. Her voice blew my mind. Rest in peace Aretha Franklin! You are the queen of soul and you forever have my respect!

This is what soul is. Her voice had so much character. As soon as you hear the voice, you know it's Miss Franklin. Back then, brothas and sistas had effortless talents and gifts. They really had to know how to sing. She could do anything, vocally. Miss Franklin is undoubtedly one of the most decorated artists of all time. What an extraordinary career, journey and overall, life. R.I.P. Queen.

Seen this one coming 3 or 4 years ago when it was quietly announced she had pancreatic cancer.....95% mortality rate within 5 years. Still hurts even knowing it was coming. A legend that will live on.

Great, great loss of a great GREAT woman. I loved that both my mom and I had Aretha records in our collections! How often does that happen? It really is a rare talent that can cross generations. My personal favourite Aretha track will always be "Freeway Of Love" because it was the first Aretha Franklin 45 I ever bought!
