Imagine being Brendan. You meet a new girl in town, she helps save your dad and gets a Pokemon, seems nice. An hour an a half later, she rolls in looking straight out of The Jaunt and raving about how "it's all connected" and "completing the loop," and just destroys you. It hurts, you decide to set sail with this old captain and his wingul. He takes you to Slateport, where you head north to hang out under cycling road and train. Things are going well. Barely after you get there, who shows up? Like a goddamn eldritch horror, the new girl walks in from the north and stomps you again. It's too much. 13:58 “Oh my god I haven’t seen him since he went to go pick up the milk from the Pokémart!” Yeah, he probably got lost on his way home because he forgot his way through the random warps.
At 40:00 in: Every Pokémon center sets your spawn point to the town it resides in, thus entering that Pokémon center at the start put him in the Evergrande Center, hence whiting out to Evergrande City. (Various knowledge I picked up from hacking the game for a couple years) At 56:00 in, I’m wondering if someone tells him that doors that are two tiles wide (ie, all building exits) are two different warps and thus could lead to two different places theoretically. (Or if the mod was made specifically to not do that.) (1:02:00 - I guess the mod specifically does not do that, nice. I guess if the mod tool is advanced enough to make the warps symmetrical, it’s switching based on destination and not based on individual warps.) 59:15 - And also that cutscenes don’t use standard warps, but specifically warps you to places as part of the script. 1:57:15 - The heal to set your spawn location thing hasn’t been a thing since gen 1. Gen 2+ sets your spawn location the moment the Pokémon center map loads. 2:49:21 - Fun fact: Emerald’s badge check at the E4 literally only checks if you have the Fortree Gym badge, because you need the HMs allowed by the other badges to get to the E4 normally. (You need badge 5 to surf, and you need 4 badges to challenge gym 5. Then waterfall (badge 8) is needed to go into victory road, and Dive (badge 7) is needed to get to gym 8.) Also, no, the game is not going to hard lock if you beat the gyms out of order, no Pokémon game does that. It might softlock at most but even that’s unlikely. (EDIT: Correction in replies, it actually is possible to softlock. Not hard lock, though.) 4:25:26 - That hole in the wall is one of the entrances to “Terra Cave”, where you can get Groudon in post-game. There’s like this whole event thing with like weird weather happening on route X and having to go there and find the cave, etc. It has nothing to do with fly; if you force a warp to a route somehow without an exit id, you’ll land in the center of the map, which might be deep in some terrain, and that location is nowhere near the middle of the map. (Same for 4:34:50) 4:57:37 - While Eric was just standing here, I noticed for the first time a freaking mapping error on the left of the screen. In the released game, nice. Reminds me of the collision error in Sootopolis Gym’s basement. 4:59:40 - I’m actually surprised he could still enter and exit the houses, because at a certain point in the story, Sootopolis’s houses all close their doors, iirc, and you can’t usually enter them when the legendaries are rampaging. Also, for the record, Dig and Escape Rope check the same map flag and call the same function. If you can’t escape rope, you can’t dig out of a place. Finally, loved that insanely clever use of field poison white out to get out of that softlock at the end, lol.
NeoSphere - Incorrect. It only checks badge 6 (I checked the source code on pokeemerald just in case). This is because the game requires 4 badges before it allows you to face Norman, the 5th badge. So while you can skip the second temporarily, you will need to do it before you can do the 5th. Thus the 2nd badge check is whether you can surf to the league. EDIT: Actually, after looking at the code more, the Norman check only allows you to face him if you’ve defeated all four of the first four gyms. He has a state variable that is incremented after beating gyms 1-4. So beating the gyms 6-8 won’t give you enough “badges” to face him. Also what will likely cause problems is beating gyms before doing the tutorial with Wally. Because if you don’t do the Wally tutorial, it looks like the variable won’t increment high enough to allow you to face him once all four previous gyms are beaten, and once you do one of the gyms, the variable is too high to do the tutorial. So Eric got lucky finding the tutorial when he did, and he was smart doing them in order. EDIT2: Also, TIL a slash in PointCrow’s comments section gets your comment auto-removed.
First, thank you for this awesome comment. I love learning stuff like this. Second, could you point out the mapping error at 4:57:37 you mentioned? I just don't see it.
Jake, I guess - Yes, what Maarten said. That blue crystal tile doesn’t have a corner version but is being used as a corner. It looks like they do have enough space in both the tiles and tileset for a corner version if they wanted, but given that the room is literally covered in fog and this is the first time I’m seeing it after all these years, I guess they didn’t think it was worth it (or didn’t catch the error themselves).

So, I think this would actually be great for a full rando race setting, but I think you'd need a few extra failsafes and options to be safe. IF POSSIBLE, give a way to warp back to the starting town - This would be a hard softlock prevention option, basically. Give an option to start with pokeballs. Combine it with the normal race/randomizer settings to get rid of tons of story checks, open stuff up, etc. - Helps remove softlocks, etc. Include an option to start with escape ropes - Infinite, 99, w/e - They're WAY more useful here than in the actual games, due to one-way doors. OPTION, not forced. Include the ability to pair this with all the different rando options - Pokemon rando, item rando, Key item rando, etc. Overall, I think a pokemon entrance rando that was properly done would be incredible, but it really needs to be properly done. Sounds like a fun idea for a race, but I think a few things have to be changed. First, I think in order to not just make the best strategy to just find the champion door and then grind up your first Pokemon, it should at least be a rule that all 8 badges have to be collected. Maybe to make it easier and to make sure that story portions have to be played as well, gyms and elite 4 rooms are not randomized.

LMAOO Pheobe and the second gym are now infamous
43:40 racing with this mod would be sweet
Littleroot Town is the most stable place in Hoenn. Despite it not being Sinnoh, everywhere else was affected by Palkia's influence. Just like that one Pokémon Ranger bonus mission. :)
Also, I thought the "I thought you'd be a guy" dialogue Brendan has was modified text when I first saw it since it was a ROM hack, but no, that's actually just what he says. Lol.
Emerald showing its age.

a complete mapped out route would be crazy to look at
This base concept would actually make for an amazing tv show I reckon.
"Let's ban Mom for healing"
AS IF THAT WAS AN OPTION AFTER WALLACE XD
the "alright ladies, what are your moisture levels right now?" killed me for the second time when i got lost of where i was when the page reloaded
5:41:05 lol the video for this play through is what brought me to the channel! You did a good job 😄 I love this stuff
Brot 7:31:00 you did not have to do all that set up. You only needed to use dig next to the guy to open up the entrance 🤦♂️😂
That was a insane ride lol i was worried the poison self kill strat didnt work as it was approaching the end of the video lol amazing stuff cant wait for part2
Everyone screaming about the mossdeep portal in sootopolis:
Graphic tee and khaki shorts pog
Imagine playing this while also having the trainers and encounters randomized.
Plot twist: He didn't show us the second half of Regi's name _just_ so he would get lots more views on this vod
Pokémon emerald: *the gym 2 quest*
2:37:20 I scouted the elite 4. They have a Mightyena. RIP Collin.
Collin was the og
"I'm inside of a woman[...] but I can't get back inside" yes that is how birth usually works

Getting ralts with teleport may help a lot with some softlocks 😅
Can't wait until the tool is public. I'm def going to do runs with this mod applied
All roads lead to pheoby
Only took 4 hours to find gym 2 in plain sight
He found gym 2. I can finally rest
23:55 Brendan was petrified to punish him for his misogyny
oh cool, let me just casually watch an 8 hour video XD
no one:
pointcrow: everything leads to _____!!!!
This video made Pheobe my favorite Elite 4, thank you
Bro it's so funny to me every time to go to mt pyre and fight the black belt. Like what must he be thinking, this girl somehow keeps coming from higher up in the tower with only a mudkip and no money, where the hell is she coming from?!
I really love this concept super addicting to watch
My suggestion modify buff the escape rope n dig to avoid softlocks in programming
So much of the stream was spent looking for Dewford and Brawly
It's great to see him always smiling...... Man he doesn't stop smiling
4:46:53 YO, I WAS WONDERING IF HE'D GET THAT!
I am very dedicated I am almost done watching this in 1 sitting without watching something else
I would love a location randomizer for other games in the series too! I definitely want to try with gen 4 or 5
i imagine this is what happens when gamefreak decides to make a game based entirely around hoopa huh?
Another name for oldale town would be
Vintage Ale Village
Someone should make one where each warp is changed everytime you enter or leave one so you can't get back to where you just were
