- This is a sampler of TV commercials for radio stations that were made between 1979 and 1984. They all use jingles and music from JAM Creative Productions in Dallas. The spots were made by a variety of other video and animation production companies.
Today, most TV commercials for radio focus on the station's music or current contest. But in the early 80s the focus was to create a friendly image for the station, and relate to the community and listeners being served. Most of these spots are prime examples of this bygone era in broadcasting.
I am from Tabasco Mexico and I have already liked this kind of stuff, since I was I child I listened radio from USA using a booster (when I lived in Tuxpan Veracruz México) in 1985. I always waited for the identification of each radio station just to know the origin of the signal, which it was challenge before the internet era. This"small" things were my motivation and inspiration for learning a little bit English in my childhood. Thank you very much for those people and thanks too who uploaded this wonderful video.
Yes, it certainly is. Better known to some as the iconic voice of ABC-TV prime time for many years.
Brings Back Memories!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Whoever put this up!!
Mine too!
The WCOZ jingle was also used for BBC radio 1 in the uk about 40 years ago when it was on meduim wave only (1053/1089 khz). Different lyrics but the same tune.
Amazing stuff! I remember seeing the WCOZ spot on TV when I was a kid! Thanks for posting Jon!
The track used for WCAU-FM was a custom, created specifically for that spot. It has never been part of a jingle package. The challenge with that one was that the video was done first, and we had to make the music time out correctly with what was happening on the screen (which is a fun puzzle to solve).
01:11 Jingle Mustang FM era 90an.
No, the voice-over is Dan Ingram (legendary WABC DJ).
JAMCreative, you are the reason for making radio ultimately cool!
Of course. They have really good stuff and very triumphant musical compositions with real, live instruments.
I wonder if the great Image West did the graphics for the WDBO commercial?
3:06 You can see that someone forgot to lay the cel of the talking radio dial onto the background for about a second.
Animation Error
Any of these spots looks like a sitcom intro.
LOL So true!
Today Ross Brittan who was one half of Ross and Wilson on WABC thirty years ago is now on WOGL in Philadelphia as he is part of their Breakfast Club Morning Drive Show as I listen to it every morning.
Frank Genovay And now, he is back in New York City doing his Sunday show and also his part-time work at WCBS-FM. He is also became friends with Scott Shannon for years back in his Z100 days.
Ross Britton started at WABC in 1981 with Brian Wilson (not the one from The Beach Boys). They lasted until 1983 when he left WABC while the station went talk from a year prior and ended up at Z100 with Scott Shannon and the rest of the "Morning Zoo" team.
Scott left Z100 in 1989 to go to Los Angels and brought back Brian Wilson and re-teamed as Ross & Wilson where it remained on Z100 until the early 1990's.
He was also on WOGL in Philadelphia as part of the "Breakfast Club" from 2004 until he left in 2015.
1:11 BBC Radio 1 had this Jingle from 1984 when they were on 1053 1089
The KDWB spot is TOP SHELF, Jon. Thanks for sharing those, how fun!
That KDWB Jingle was also used at KDWB Los Angeles for their then all-news format under Group W. Ownership.
Uh don't you mean KFWB @@harpsgalore6584?! 😉😉
@@VBaskin2010 Yes KFWB good point.
Channel 98, good memories.
What a fine collection. Thank you!
This collection of jingles is amazing!!
i just randomly stumbled onto this and im in love with the aesthetic
3:13 - I could've sworn I heard the _Evening Magazine_ 1985 melody at the end of the WMAL spot... (despite the fact it came out before that theme was penned)
@JAMcreative and jwgreek8606, I wonder if the WCOZ ad is to plug the AC format that only lasted one year in Boston. BTW, Ernie Anderson, you will be missed.
This is great. So vacuous but still so enthusiastic.
The jingles from JAM Creative Productions were and are always enthusiastic.
that is Ernie Anderson voicing the WCOZ commercial?
Yeppers!!!
I wish I had known about all of these commercials at the time, instead of in retrospect.
just noticing this, the KDWB commercial bed later came as a production bed on a package called "data seek" done for CKWX.
I already noticed that some time ago. It was my favorite package.
gotta love those station jingles!
Me too! I grew up listening to most of these all day.
0:41 :) !!!!!! That station is Radio Hotness! Broadcasting Rush for 20 years!
If I'm not mistaken, that KDWB jingle was later used in a package called "Data Seek"; a News/Talk package for Vancouver station CKWX
I remember that package so well. It had a sound that was very familiar during that decade.
3:17
I wonder what package they used in this commercial?
In that WDBO spot, I saw Jim Turner. I think he is still at that station.
The jingle was used as WJAR.
1:20 Best Show Package intro
That jingle melody originated in NY on WABC.@@willfi3830
Alive and having fun 😅
At 1:20, was that Ernie Anderson "The Voice of ABC", doing a spot for WCOZ? At the beginning, it sounded like one of the WABC jocks (I forget his name, Ron Lundy, maybe?) doing the WABC spot.
+Gary Kerns Yes, Ernie Anderson is on the WCOZ spot. The WABC spots were voiced by Dan Ingram .
+JAMcreative OK, thanks for telling me. Now that you mention I was quite sure the WABC spots were done by one of their jocks; I just didn't know which one.
WCOZ and the commercial even had Dale Dorman-What a wacko-but I never missed a show:-)
Strange to see the two towers of world trade center in 80s with wabc
Gotta say the WMAL one was brilliant.
Of course. It sounded great back then!
and don't forget, WCAU did use power station, and hitradio 1 and 2
I'll second that!
I 3rd that, jam, you were the ones who gave los angeles the chance to give the other big boys a run for the money! as an L.A guy, san diego guy as well, KOST gave those other AC stations what for, and KSON gave those other country guys the walking papers, and showed them right to the door! booya headshot!
@pannoni1 - Point taken, but we were just trying to convey information, not make a graphical statement. One problem with RUclips is that you can't replace your upload without losing the "view" count and all the comments. If we could I might change the font, but what's really awful here is the audio. When this was uploaded RUclips was using a HORRIBLE audio level compressor setting. It makes us cringe, because our original sounds SO much better. They don't use it now, but we'd lose 2 years!
WCOZ using BBC Radio 1 Jam Jingle 1984
Yes. "Ask for a song and we'll play it for you, England, Wales and Scotland too..."
Yeah! And KIMN and Viking FM and Trent FM and Sound FM.

1:16 to 1:24 Ernie Anderson.
Was that Ronnie de Asis (the voice behind the first commercial in this video, WABC)?
As Well On Z100 In New York?
Lol "WMAL Again?!" at 2:55,
What's the title of the jingle for the WMAL 63 music?
That was from their "Focal Point" jingle package from 1979.
I Want 2 Hear That!
Hey Jon And Mary Lyn Is That Ross Brittain?!
As an Outlander I’m interested on the Double-U in the names of radio stations … someone can clearify it for me? THX
The simplified explanation is: The 1912 London International Radiotelegraphic Convention assigned each country its own range of “call letters” to identify its broadcast stations. For example, the United States was initially allocated letter combinations with the prefix letters K, N, and W. W is used as the first letter for stations located east of the Mississippi river, and K is the first letter for stations on the west side of the river. There are a few exceptions (for example KDKA Pittsburgh and WBAP Ft. Worth) which were assigned before that rule went into affect. Station call signs in Canada begin with C, stations in Mexico begin with X, and so on.
yeah! *cue fail horns!*
LOL XD 😂
W-A-B-CCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite logo melody in the world ever!
I Want 2 Hear It!
Radio was super white in the 80s
I like wabc

When radio was really good. It's total shit now. Rapped out. :-P
Some radio stations still plays jingles from JAM Creative Productions until now. Unfortunately it's only a few of them...
