    0:00 Intro
1:55 Journalist Bill Curtis has had Parkinson's since 2000. As predicted, he was dramatically affected 10 years later with advanced Parkinson's. Now the only symptom he has is a slight tremor.
4:48 Within about 2 hours of eating carbs, Bill will begin to shake and feel rigid. He doesn't get the full on symptoms he had before.
7:38 Bill was in an exercise program. In an attempt to enhance the effects of the program, he fasted overnight and had nothing for breakfast before the workout. He found it alleviated his profound fatigue.
11:27 Fasting helped with the fatigue, but there were many more symptoms that were not reversed. Bill continued researching.
13:02 Bill exercised fasted every day for a year. He lost weight, but eventually, it stopped working. As you become fit, you make fewer ketones.
15:04 Dr. Veech suggested that Bill try Bulletproof Coffee after the night fast. Nearly all of his symptoms abated at the end of the first hour.
19:36 The military has been experimenting with Dr. Veech's ketone ester for radiation exposure.
22:26 A therapeutic ketogenic diet is one with 80 to 90% of your food as fat. Bill has devised 4 levels of ketosis.
30:33 Within the first 10 days of taking ketone ester, Bill no longer had urinary incontinence.
32:07 There is data that an elevation of uric acid it will delay the onset of Parkinson's. If you have Parkinson's, and your uric acid levels are higher, you decline more slowly.
36:14 BHB allows you to make more dopamine, serotonin, adrenaline, noradrenaline and nitric oxide.
38:00 In advanced Parkinson's neurotransmitters are negatively impacted. With ketosis, you are making serotonin, noradrenaline, adrenaline, dopamine and nitric oxide synthase.
38:52 Every antioxidant has to be recharged with an electron from NADPH, directly or indirectly.
39:50 Beta hydroxybutyrate raises NADPH levels using isocitrate dehydrogenase in the cytoplasm, outside of the mitochondria.
42:24 NADPH levels in the mitochondria does not correlate with NADPH levels in the cytosol. We should measure the cytosolic NADPH.
44:09 NADPH voltage is dependent upon the relative concentrations. More equals more resilience.
48:52 Dismutase does not get its electrons from the battery. It does this by taking 2 molecules of superoxide, oxidizing one and reducing the other.
52:59 You have the ability to use ketones to restore ischemia-reperfusion and turn off inflammation.
    54:08 NADPH controls inflammation.
55:04 Dr. Veech found that treating Alzheimer's mouse models with beta hydroxybutyrate kept them from accumulating beta amyloid deposits.
58:03 Bill believes that TBI will respond very well to BHB, as evidenced by people close to him with head injuries.
01:02:41 Bill has created an online course to help people help each other. You need a cook, a coach, a nutritionist and a doctor.
01:04:36 Bill must still take his Parkinson's medications.

You gave me the love of my life back. If anyone is on the fence please try it … for us it’s been life changing.

Hello. I'm from Brazil and I need some help. I'm very familiar with the low carb diet and the ketone bodies, I've treated my grandmother's Alzheimer's for years with low carb diet and coconut oil with very good results. But now my father was diagnosed with parkisons, and I'm looking for these ketone esters, but I'm only finding BHB here in Brazil and I need to know if BHB would work exactly as D-BHB. Besides that, anything you can tell me how to do it right for parkisons I would very much appreciate. Thanks

What a brave man, great interview. Thank you for bringing a voice to people like this. Fair play to him for making a change!! I have gone keto (well my own high fibre version) since may 8th 2023. I don’t have Parkinson’s but felt I was on a slippery slope to weight gain and physical break-down of “ageing” so I got going. Little did I know that it would TRANSFORM our lives, as in me, my oldest overweight son who lost all the weight and became a happy charming boy again from a moody angry boy, my second son, 14 who was transformed into non-moody happy spot and dandruff free guy, daughter who became nice! Second daughter who is more reasonable (she’s 11), and darling husband who lost all worry and work stress!!! We are a family transformed and feel armed for the white carb refined sugar future we were facing!! We do still have our food fun occasionally like xmas and birthdays etc, but honestly happiness and health are entirely possible!!! ❤🎉 we need more channels like yours, thank you!!

I've read that deep brain stimulation helps, but that's a pretty drastic costly surgical procedure. There's a thing called intra nasal photobiomodulation that doesn't require surgery but can still stimulate a deep region of the brain. It's not a therapy yet for Parkinsons, but one can do it for just general brain wellness.

I also have Parkinsons due to agent orange exposure along with other medical issues. 3 years ago I had a cardiac event that put me in the hospital with a diagnosis of CAD. overweight and short of breath. At that point I decided that I had to make a change. I started walking early in the morning and eventually was up to speed walking 6 miles 5 days away. I started eating healthy and started losing weight . I decided to start zumba classes at 67 and now scheduled to become an zumba instructor. Last week I went to Costa Rica and was able to surf. Every time I increase my exercise I feel terrible. Thank you !

This RUclips video was sent to me by a friend. I’d already subscribed to the channel but missed this one. I was diagnosed last summer with PD with just mild symptoms and entered an Drug Research program. It pushed me from Stage One into Stage Two. I withdrew from the program and decided I needed to take responsibility for myself and this disease. I stumbled upon the Gut-Brain connection, started putting 2 and 2 together and started intermittent fasting with Bulletproof coffee and C8 MCT Oil. In 8 weeks I lost 20 pounds, down from 179 to 159. (I’m 5”8” and 66 years old). My symptoms have all but disappeared. I have a slight tremor on and off in my right thumb and my signature has returned to normal after 6 years. I take high doses of Magnesium Citrate for the leg cramps which have pretty much disappeared too and takes care of the constipation. I harvested stinging nettle roots, freeze dried them (I have a HarvestRight freeze dryer) then made a tincture out of it. I use an eye dropper full twice a day which solved the BPH prostate issues causing difficulty in urination. It suppresses the estrogen that causes BPH. The Germans use that over Flomax with no adverse side effects.
Excellent video, now I need to find a Keto Dietician since this is too much for my wife to handle. This diagnosis has been harder on her than it has for me. Thanks so much!

Keto is pretty simple, it’s the old Atkins high protein , low carb way of eating. So u find the list of low carb veggies, like lettuce, celery, peppers, and many more veggies, and the protein is the primary food. Dr. Seyfried w/ Boston University is equally fascinating to listen to bc the same diet is what he and his team of scientists are using for the metabolic treatment and cure of advanced cancers. (They encourage fasting as well to starve the cancer.). He’s interviewed on many YT channels. What I wonder about re. The keto diet to heal PD is the intake of dairy. So expert advice is needed there, and I guess I better listen to this interview… got sidetracked w/ comments.

It's amazing seeing yet another testament to the power of diet! You should try getting Angela Stanton on the show. She advocates for a high fat low Carb diet to prevent Migraines! I just finished her book, "Fighting the Migraine epidemic" and she has a truly fascinating theory on the subject.

Thanks for your video! Can I suggest revising the statement "80 to 90% of your food as fat" since it gives some, who may not understand, the impression that a plate of food would appear to be 80-90% fat (rather than calories).

Thank you Mike! I cried through most of this interview because my dad died of Parkinson's related issues a few years back. I cant tell you how he struggled. I just hope people will see this so it can help them at least cope. My dad also had Alzheimer's and I hate to say I was thankful sometimes because he could not remember how he suffered the day before. My dad died because he could not swallow anymore. I am intrested in this interview because it helps me be preventitive. I fast most days and eat low carb however I don't know if I am Keto because I eat vegies. I enjoy all your interviews so much!

Rhonda - I eat a lot of vegetables and my ketone levels are generally over 1.0 and most times closer to 2.5, and that's without MCT or other supplementation. Dr. Berg eats 7-10 cups of vegetables per day and he stays in ketosis. I found that the longer I stayed in ketosis the less vegetables kicked me out -- just my n=1.

The only thing he was afraid of was Parkinson's. He never thought diet made a difference in neurological diseases and the recent developments in the last 10 years that are diet based is exciting. Wish my dad was here to see this. He would be amazed.

Hi Mike, another great video. I have a friend with PD to whom I’ve suggested the Ketogenic Diet after my own success with halting the painful electrical seizures I used to experience in my leg.
I’m sure he and his wife will be very interested in this first hand experience.

Sue, I'd love to know more about your experience. I have PLMD - my legs jump at night, a form of minor torture, at times like electric jolts. Is this anything like your symptom? Have not tried keto diet... lizandhercat@gmail.com

    • @sueasher9924
      @sueasher9924 6 лет назад

I'll PM you Lizandhercat, it sounds similar in that it was electrical/neurological in its nature and it affected lower leg (one only for me). It was like MAJOR torture and extremely specific, occuring always and only ever in one specific area.

@@lizandhercat1618 I take ropinirol for that and it works great but you have to take it few hours before bed depending on the amt of food in your gut.

I have lived with Parkinson's for almost 14 years. For the first 12 years I relied on meds only...no exercise and no diet strategy what so ever. I ballooned to 325lbs at 5'11" which made my balance and mobility problems more profound. I would be lucky to have the use of my legs for more than 3-4 hours per day. I decided that I wasn't going to simply lay in my recliner and give up. I started watching what I ate, and began exercising. After about a year and a half I have now lost 140lbs and counting. I have fine tuned my diet, including a keto approach and the introduction of mannitol. If you haven't done your research on mannitol, I suggest you look into it. This combination (keto & mannitol) has resulted in dramatic changes to my physical condition, and maybe more important, my outlook on life has drastically improved. And ask anyone who has the disease, the psychological fight is every bit as important as the physical fight PD wages on your body every day.

Please research Dr. Berg in you tube, google and lots of Filipino are doing keto now. I am loving this lifestyle I’ve lost my indigestion, and my husband as well and his headache. My blood pressure are normal. Health are all good report from blood test. I wished I knew this 7 years ago cos my mum passed away from Parkinson’s and diabetes. I’m changing the history of my family background of diabetes, blood pressures, stroke and Parkinson’s and influence my kids to go low carbs/keto for a healthy happy life. Pls reply to this message that you are already doing low carbs too. Sending love ❤️ from Australia

I'm doing keto and my elderly mum has Parkinson's but she's locked-in to her medications routine. She has to have breakfast, granola with cornflakes, to satisfy the tablet requirements - take with food.
She loves chopped banana for tea, with greek yoghurt and honey. But she insists on cheap honey that's sugary.
I'd love to enable her to reduce the sugary carbs.
