Microprose is one of my favorite developers ever. From B-17 to Strike Eagle 3 plus all early Civilization and X-Com games, I remember them as a vanguard tech developers, nothing to do with their actual state. Not complaining about that as we all know that is a huge feat that they are back with some promising stuff (as Outerra), but the lads can't wast their name with bad projects as this one. I just want a simple air combat sim with a good dynamic campaign... something as the old EF-2000 by DID, that my potato GTX950 can handle. Cheers!
Because DCS is doing pretty poorly right now. Many complaints about AI recently, the unresolved issue with Razbam, ED core devs leaving (allegedly), terrible 2.9 launch and of course the usual lack of improvements/fixes. I've spent many hours observing and moderating DCS servers, and to me it's clear many people would rather play something like CAP2 or the old Novalogic sims. They just got into DCS because of a lack of alternatives and the stupid F2P advertising on Steam. Since DCS removed the joke that was "arcade mode" and MAC is still nowhere to be seen, CAP2 could be a competitor in the "sim lite" genre, if it was polished. Maybe Microprose thinks it's easier to fix this game, than developing one from scratch. I've grown out of these games 20 years ago. All I want is Falcon 5 and a new Gunship.
@@fonesrphunny7242 I would disagree about DCS doing poorly. Yes, there is a loud group of people on the internet who are moaning about ED, and the death of DCS. Steam only shows a small portion of the userbase, that I understand, but it's still indicative of player count. The numbers aren't shrinking. If you were moderating a server in the last 3 months, you would have noticed the insane amount of people who were flying the F4. You also might have noticed the player count on the DCS website during that time. It was very, very high, which tells us that a significant amount of people just shelled out $60 for another module. People don't throw money at something they are about to leave. The people who bitch and moan online about the state of the game, are not the same people who want sim-lite. I suspect that CAP2 is targeting disgruntled warthunder players more than DCS players. Just my 2c
Well they are MicroProse only by name, and so far have launched very few titles remotely interesting. Being a huge fan of original MPS, I am utterly disappointed about the revival of the brand.
This truly would have only made sense if MicroProse bought it from the dev, pulled it from Steam, rebuilt it and rebranded it. Like you said WHY would they attach their name to this mess?
@@SimUKReviews You mean Falcon5? It seems too much time and resources would have to be put into this and possibly pulled away from Falcon5. I’m sure we’re not seeing that before 2030 anyway.
Well yes but MP are also supporting BMS in F4. That being said, MP are not developing this (as far as I know) so no resources would be diverted. I could understand it if the Mission generator here was better, or didn't exist in F4/5 but that isn't the case...So I am a little confused TBH.
MP seems to want to gather up all the sim/simcade projects in motion and publish them with some support. CAP2 had a neat gimmick of simulating a whole war IIRC. It's rough now, but maybe with *years* of work and investment, it could be good.
my guess is this is a longterm investment situation. making a Flight Sim, even a more simplified and arcadey one can take ALOT of work. Eagle Dynamics have their plate overflowing with just DCS alone. as well as the devs of IL2. so while CAP2 may seem unfinished, there's already a good base to work off of. They don't need to code entire flight models, how radar works, ground clutter, god forbid they need to make an entirely new engine. bug fixes and content drops seem miniscule compared to making your own Flight sim game from scratch.
Harrier water should be the H2O value above the right MFD by the engine gauges. 500 is the max so it's either off or not implemented, the switch for its on the left by the stopwatch. I don't think there's a jettison for water, but fuel dump is essential as you can't vertically land a harrier without getting it under around 3000lbs of fuel. Water actually acts more like WEP power boost water injection than as cooling agent with pilots being told to try to keep out of the water boost range- it only kicks in at high power settings in STOL. I doubt any of that is in this game. DCS Harrier is awesome fun, despite the pretty awkward systems integration and it is caught up in the ongoing drama. Equally it won't teach you how to do it and many of the guides out there are wrong or unhelpful.
Yeah that is where I looked and could see nothing to indicate it was working at all....So why have the button bind? I do have the DCS harrier...One day I will stop reviews and play what I want to play lol
Ive had this game on my watchlist for a while... Looks like its going to live there a while longer. Im a PPL(H) pilot, and a computer pilot too.. DCS, xplane etc.. On a whim, I recently bought 'Nuclear Option' on steam. Weirdly... Im enjoying it...
I refunded after 20mins on STEAM. I was really disappointed with menu options, the lack of tutorials as you stated. When I flew through a cloud my cockpit filled with the cloud as if it was full of smoke, then cleared as soon as I exited the cloud. Thanks for the honest review, I had the same bad VR experience you had.
I was under the assumption that a new (significant) update is coming as part of the deal with microprose, so I've been waiting for that to arrive before I give it a try.
Yeah it seems to be a little bit messy....the major update seemingly included lots of coming soon icons and some very broken quick missions. Genuinely not sure how this one will pan out.
I made the mistake of buying this game when it first appeared on Steam early access. Might as well flushed my $ down the toilet. Everything you said is dead on, the game is absolute rubbish. For anyone reading this do your self a favor do not waste your money on this mess. The likelihood this game will ever be in a playable state is close to zero as the devloper lacks the skill set needed to fix it. Not sure what Microprose is thinking on this deal.
overpriced for a start let down game with all the simulators out there. Its a money grab for someone that couldn't finish a job they started. Thats the new generational way

I wish they would bring out Gunship 2000. One of my favourite games back in the day on the Amiga A1200.
I do think that is possibly on the list (don't quote me)
@@SimUKReviews I hope so :0)
This game was made by veteran developer Ed Scio. For those who were there, he made "Airball" for Atari ST and Amiga
That's the chap, I wish him all the luck in the world...but right now......A total mess.
Great review.
It is quite frankly a mystery why MP would attach their name to such an unfinished product?
I am confused and bemused quite frankly...They MUST have seen something I haven't

@@SimUKReviews I don't think so. You went through it thoroughly.
It's more of a tech demo than a sim.

Try the AV8b in dcs, it took me around 8 months to become proficient at vertical landing. Very difficult but rewarding aircraft

Hopefully they will make it better and turn it to be like falcon 4 BMS.. if they merged the two it would be a awsome sim
I do wonder if that is their idea...?

No problem 👍 Stay tuned for updates.
I abandoned this back in 2020 for MSFS2020 & DCS. I have not bothered going back and won't from your findings. Thanks.
Stay tuned for any updates 😉

@@SimUKReviews If they fix it that will be great but I wouldn't suggest buying into early access as I did. Wait until it is finished and reviewed.
I did get this but refunded for now. I was looking for VTOL Harrier jump jet edition, the flaps thing got me stuck too.
Hoping this improves quickly.
Makes me laugh how so many people have been duped by the name "Microprose". It's not the same company, nor the same people. Just a trademark.
Having spoken to the Owner, you are so wrong on so many levels. :-)
