I dont hear the name microprose since the 80s ... and I was a big big fan with f19 stealth fighter and red storm raising 😊. We were still in floppy disk era!
I think what I liked the most about the old MicroProse games in the 80's was the ranks and medals you could get. I was in the USAF at the time and was one of the only people in my squadron with a computer and an internet connection (had to dial long distance to connect). I think I played all the MicroProse games of the time as they were my favorite.
The day micropose does a sequel to falcon 4 is the day ill really get excited... falcon bms did a good job modifying f4 but we just need a newer engine and graphics thats not 30 years old
You landed that so well. It just did as it was told. I bought this and saw some bad feedback left on the steam saying that production had stopped. But I saw regular report updates on the thread of upcoming things and that things were still being worked on. Reinstalling I was really hopeful for this. So glad I paid for it when I did. And I am gonna enjoy this.
As an Atari ST and PC sim head in the early 90s, this in VR, sound like a dream. DCS always looks far too hardcore for me. I need what we call in sim racing realms as ‘simcade’. Hardcore graphics, but a bit more approachable game mechanic/flight system.
They released a large new update a week or so ago so it's hardly abandoned. That + the fact Microprose is the new Publisher makes for a pretty drastic change. Maybe actually read the latest news before making a comment. ;)
@@MCP2002 I did read it. Also watched recent reviews since the update including a lengthy review put out by Boresight which he gave an honest review of. The so-called update didn’t add much. The game is still basically a tech demo with “coming soon” icons all over the screen. Not much different from when I refunded it. Good luck. A new publisher doesn’t change much unless they take charge of the project. Enjoy!
I owned the Amiga 500 way ahead of its time, the flight sim "interceptor" was incredible, was amazing when I upgraded the memory by half a MB, it was this big metal piece of pie looking insert that fit in the bottom the computer..lol
Hello Mike, I discovered your channel today and I´m very delighted having found such an informative and entertaining YT channel! Especially your VR headset descriptions are awesome and I really enjoy watching you flying air vehicles in VR! Nice and friendly moderation of your videos, too! Great job! I also like this video here (yes, I´m old enough to know the first version of Combat Air Patrol - but initially I thought, this game´s name was "Interceptor", but "Interceptor" on my Amiga 500 was even elder LOL) Please keep up your work in this cool channel, subscribed and liked!
Hey there! Thanks so much for the kind words and for discovering the channel-I'm really glad you're enjoying the content! And wow, the Amiga 500 days! I totally remember Interceptor, too.. what a classic! 😄 Your support means a lot, and I really appreciate the sub and like. Thanks again, and welcome to the channel!
@@FlightSimulation Wow, that´s awesome! Great to meet you, I really like your content, keep up your great spirit! :)
This is a new Microprose the name was purchased by superfan David Lagettie, look for their own in-house developed games arriving over the next couple of years
Having played CAP on the amiga way back when, so looking forward to playing this one. The AV8B is one of my all time favourite aircraft and always enjoyed Microprose games! D/L now on steam!
"Blue one this is the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt. You are clear to land." :) Loved CAP and GS2000 on my Amiga, still playing sometimes... Night missions, dashboard litening, laser designator and so on. Yumm yumm. CAP was a quantum leap back then but not this time. It looks quite okayish but compared to dcs it feels a bit arcade for me. Anyway, it is good to see any competitors to dcs, competitive environment has its benefits to all users. Oh yes and movable mouse in vr mode is not possible because your mouse has 2 axes while in vr you have 3. And you can't ignore the additional z axis due the perspective, headposition etc. So raycast driven central pointer yes but moving 2d mouse in real 3d space... not. The same method exists in dcs and it works for me well, just look at the switch and click. I took apart a cheap usb mouse, soldered wires to its buttons and placed 2 arcade button on the stick of my warthog hotas (with zipties, in a non destructive way ofcourse) . One for left and one for right click (right click is for rotary encoders for example). In this way I can click the buttons without releasing the stick itself. It works like charm. :)
Gosh, how long have I been waiting for an accessible flight simulation with a dynamic SP campaign! DCS is nice but feels more like a technical feasibility study. I miss somewhat like "Enemy engaged", "Gunship 2000", "TFX", "Mig Alley", "Red Baron" or "Tornado".
No matter how great the interior might be, the flight model, etc., if the game doesn't have volumetric clouds it will not compete with the likes of DCS (in particular) that one change to the dcs game was monumental for simulator fans.
Technically the new Microprose has not yet released an in-house developed game yet, the games they have released so far have been published titles and they have supported them well.
Tell me you don't really watch the sim space without telling me you don't watch the sim space... As others have pointed out. It's been in EA on steam for almost a decade.
I loved Combat Air Patrol on the Amiga. It is my all time favorite Air Combat Flight Sim. I played it on an Amiga 500 with a Super Turbo 28 accelerator and it ran so good it was amazing. I always wanted them to bring it back remastered with modern graphics. It would be nice if they allowed you to fly the FA-18 and F-14 Tomcat as well.
Microprose will doubtless be assisting with the development as they have done with other titles eg Rise of Piracy where they are helping with 3d models etc.
It could do with a better tutorial system like the dcs of manuals like the falcon 4 BMW training manual. As I brought this a few years ago and gave up due to lack of training materials
You are right; there isn't much information on how to fly and use the Harrier. However, according to the roadmap, they are working on it. I was able to use it with what I've learned on DCS, but for someone "new", it can be frustrating. Even some tutorials here on RUclips would be nice. I will make something if I have the time.
Looks good. Can't touch early access anymore. Even trusted companies and early on promises. If the game 💩 the bed might not even be left with the bag. And to top that off when you go to said game forums and complain. Mf say you new what you bought had the possibility to fail. Not a gambling man. Sorry
I understand you, but unfortunately, releasing early access versions has become the new common practice. In the Amiga era, this was not possible due to the absence, or near absence, of the internet, so everything was released on the market without the need for various updates. Today, this is not the case. It's also true that sometimes, something good can emerge from small realities..
@@FlightSimulation This whole live service and early access is the norm. Looks decent but the plane should have been the F35. Be something most players would want. I love the Harrier but it not as popular as other planes. Ive played so many Microprose games back on the C64.
@@HADESPAYLOAD True, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, the main developer worked on CAP1 back in the 90s. This means that, given his age, the Harrier could be his favorite aircraft :) Another important point, almost more important to me, is that there is no data available about the F-35 and other latest-generation fighters. It is impossible to create something realistic. You can invent how it works, but it will never be truly realistic. In contrast, decommissioned fighters like the Harrier, the F-14, and many other aircraft from that period are accessible to the public, making it possible to represent them as realistically as possible, with flight models based on real data, etc. Flying the latest generation fighters is more suitable for an arcade game. This game seems to aim for more realism, and I like this.
@@HADESPAYLOAD F-35 systems are classified bud.... we will never see an accurate recreation while it is still in service. Any F-22 or descendant you see in any sim is purely fictional.

In the 90s Jane’s had all the current aircraft and f22 and f23 games exist. Again it’s a game and I don’t see anything appearing to be study level.
Don't even think of wasting your money on this guys. I got it and never reinstalled it after getting the Harrier in DCS. It's more a alpha version of a game - So much missing, you couldn't believe. Not easy enough for casual players and not in the slightest complex enough for the simmers. The graphics suck b*lls today, and even when it first came out almost a decade ago it was beaten by the old DCS and even Flaming Cliffs. If you catch the bug, start to invest in that hobby! This Game here would be more suitable for a handheld on the way to school or work. But you get pretty quickly bored, because it hasn't much to offer!
