They just fired 400 direct engineers via a zoom call, with no warning. So it isn't just temp workers.

  • @rozzbourn3653

this is directly due to the contract that was agreed on. Jeep has no choice now but to either automate or move the work to Mexico in order to stay competitive. it seemed pretty obvious to me when i heard about some of the pay and benefits hikes that were going to happen.

Il earned my lesson when I signed up for a union job. Seemed so great telling me and several others workers we have your back!!! Several years later, the company picked up and sold out. This same company is now making the same item over seas and shipped here!! From that day on I found just do your job and don't get involved with any union firm. I went back to college and got my degree and began teaching. Several times their union approached me to sign up and I told them to get lost! I have my own mouth to speak up and don't need a union to speak for me!!!

A year ago they stop production and idled the plant in Belvidere IL letting go over 1000 workers.
Despite the fact there is word they will be converting it into a possible EV assembly line, there is already a huge push back from the masses not wanting them.
It doesn't help either that the higher cost of new car purchases and stagnant sales have shown a stalling effect right down to the production line.
So that plan may very well backfire and may possibly leave that plant to stay idle till a better plan develops.
This can only snowball among to other assembly lines as well if sales are not picked up. Plus the fact the UAW wage increases from the strike from earlier this year is creating the domino affect as those predicted.
