  • Apologies for the re-upload. I have been asked to overlay the rowing with music - so here it is!
    Full length race at Eights Head of the River 2019. We had a good row and a great week training on the Tideway. Amazing experience and congratulations to Brookes for their awesome performance!

    Why the music OOI? The video with natural sound was great. Is this kind of longer race where it's essentially a time trial with no visible competitors or clear way to judge the distance left, mentally harder than a 2k?

      I agree, I really liked the no music row.
      I think the 2k vs time trial have two different types of pressure. The time trial is more you against you, whereas a 2k side by side you can sometimes use the people you are racing against to motivate you further.

      I found the HOTR to be harder than the standard 2k, not just as its longer, but the condition of the water can get quite choppy too.

    Great video as always! I think a video with Oxford Brookes as the subject matter would be very interesting. Your insights into their success, the interaction with Leander Club etc.

      That's a great idea! We have guys at the club that could talk about it that are from brookes too!

    Great video and a great race. Is that Sholto stroking? And who are in the three and four seats? We see a lot of them in your videos.

    • @CameronBuchan

      That's Sholto yeah! Calum Mcb in four and Barney S in 4. I wanted to do an intro vid for the 8 but didn't turn out!

    How is it that you get so much compression (on the legs) on the water and not on the erg?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  4 года назад +2

      Different techniques for different applications! Plus a lot easier to have more compression on the water when you have momentum on your side!

    I tried to use that video as a row along - but I quickly realized the pace was something like 38 strokes per minute, way beyond my abilities! I had to let Leander win by quitting after two minutes, hahaha :-)

    What was your average rate during HoRR? Also, saw your crew's start from my own boat, very impressive crew!

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  5 лет назад

      I would say roughly 36, higher at the start and finish!

    You just can’t beat the sound of an 8 when you’re all hitting a rhythm along with cracking timing - brilliant boat speed (very jealous). Done the Vesta HORR a few times but you lot still would thrash us if we had a 5 minute head start 🤣
    How much were you off Brookes’ time in the end?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  Год назад

      Good question! I'm not sure actually. Maybe 5 seconds? 😂 I can't remember!

    • @Nomads_Rowing
      @Nomads_Rowing Год назад +1

      Excellent example of a rowers selective memory 🤣 At least you don’t have the hassle of using club equipment - got out in a 2x (it’s an over 15 years old Aylings 🥺) and had a shocking outing as the runners were way out and the footplates steeper than the north face of Everest - attacked with a selection of tools this morning and what a difference!🥳). Now in very desperate need of on water coaching to kick my ass - knowing what is good technique then trying to apply it are two very hard aspects to address - one day 🤞

      @@Nomads_RowingI don't know what you're talking about 😂 at least you were able to sort it! 💪 Will be great to get. Out there with some coaching!

      The reason it has music is because the cox didn't want you to hear her calls
