I am 62 years old, riding Harley for over 30 years . My 2004 Heritage will definitely be my last Harley. As I came from the Evos, which are in my opinion the best Harleys ever made, the fuel injection and security alarm are the electronic maximum for me to bear on a motorcycle! When I see all the modern electronics on the actual Harley bikes, I can understand, why companies are getting into trouble. For me riding motorcycle is keeping simple things simple.
I have no problem with the Board or the CEO supporting whatever they want privately. When the corporation uses my money to support things that I would never give my money to is when it becomes an issue for me and I refuse to let them funnel one cent of my money to those organizations. It matters not to me who else is or has been doing it or for how long.
I feel the same way but after working in a papermill for years, I know that boycotts hurt the hard working Americans that are employed at the company with layoffs, not the rich assholes at the top that made the decision to donate money to something. So for me I have to give it alot of thought before I choose to hurt one of my fellow blue collar brother's or sisters. Also the guy who started this is a wannabe politician and you now how to tell if a politician is lying, his mouth is moving.
HD Inc died in 1999 and was replaced by Hardley-Davidson. Gone are the days when a working man could buy his American icon and keep it for life. HD's best days was when they had just TWO engines and built +- 120,000 units per year. F Jochen.
I vote for you Dave to represent me. Congress, Senate any lawmaking position you're the man. Our country needs more politicians like you that's fir sure.
Thanks that means alot, also it means I got one vote for sure when I head out on the trail to become the first honest lawmaker in the history of the U.S.
Harley-Davidson lost me when they discontinued the original Softail, the Dyna, and the real Sportster. I'm not a huge fan of the M8 engine and I definitely don't want anything with that RevMax engine on it.
Yes I lived through that, I built custom choppers in my garage and I couldn’t build them fast enough. 2008 came and it was like turning the switch off completely
@@railroad7401 I used to rebuild British Bikes in the 80's, now the price of those parts are astronomical along with the price of a used limey. So I am out of it now, those bikes are not worth the little mileage a person gets out of them.
I got put on a waiting list for a 1997 883 (Made in York, PA). It was a year and a half wait time on that bike. Another thing you probably might have mentioned in your vid is when Harley built the KC plant in 1998. That's where they made the Sporty's, Dyna's, and V-rods. That was another factor in the "flooded market". You no longer had to "wait for a bike, because they didn't have to "re-tool" the York plant to make the Sportsters, and could just focus on the big twins. Just my thought.
Everybody acts like HD just started boning us recently. Been on HD since 78 and the last ten years made me despise the dealers. I'll keep my 49 Pan thats owned me over 40 years but I'd never buy a new HD. Maybe everyone will sell their bikes and the price will bottom out. I'll be building cheap swap meet special bobbers again!
In the 90's, The owner of Palm Beach Harley, (back when it was a small shop) had people waiting in lines for bikes. He would set up a line for Softail Dyna and Touring. I remember people waiting out under the banyan trees, to leave a deposit and get on the list. I had to wait about four months for my 94, 1200 Sportster. $500.00, nonrefundable deposit.
@@deathproofproductions I got my 96 Fat Boy Late summer 95 after almost a 1 year wait. Got mine from a Mom & Pop shop back in the day Stewart Harley-Davidson .Stewart FL. No longer there. Had 2 shovel heads at that time 77 & 81 bowling balls. 70 year old dude reporting in. Wish I still had the 77 . I also remember people camping out in the park in front of Palm Beach H-D to hold there place in line not kidding.
I've done the research and I see what people are saying and understand why there upset but be upset with the board member's not the company as a whole. The hard working Americans that are employed at the company on the line are the ones that would suffer if there is a boycott. If sales slump then they start getting layedoff, after working in a papermill for over 10 years as a millwright I know first hand how it feels to see your kids suffer because your struggling to make ends meet because of being layedoff. I didn't really want to touch on the subject that's why I waited till the end to bring it up but I wanted people to think about why would starbuck be willing to hurt blue collar americans by starting a contraversy. Trust me the rich assholes on the board won't feel a thing and nether will he.
@@deathproofproductions And you don't think sending there jobs to Thailand are not going to hurt the works ? The workers them self said they were worried but we all have different opinions i bought the last bike for 42,000 and the last from them . But all is good you have a nice day
I'm not a member of the company, I left 18 years ago. That being said I still care about the hands that work there. Not some rich fuckers that are getting y'all wound up. Does anyone think they might be doing this to drive down sales? Then they would have a reason to shut the plant and move overseas, hurting our fellow Americans. Are you gonna help them out with a boycott?
I have not thought about this in years, but when I went in 2001 go pick up a night train they only had 1 (Rocky Mountain H-D in Denver, CO), and it was used, a 2000 and it was on hold for someone else. So I was looking at a Deuce, which I hate the rear fender, but wanted a Harley and figured I could replace and powder coat and paint it all black (me and a buddy took mine apart and blacked it all the way out). So I left and hem-and-hawed over the weekend and decided to go get it, I go in and the guy says oh man, we just sold that, the guy that had the hold on the Night Train over there wanted this instead, I said so the NT is for sale? He says yes, I said I'll give you $500.00 right now to hold it pending approval of the paperwork to finance it. I am still riding it all this time later. Oh, thanks for your video on the cam chain tensioners, replaced those last week with the Cyco Gaskets shoes and also swapped out the old caged bearings for full compliment :).
@@scottliegel855 57k when I put on the cyco gaskets, that was not all the miles on those shoes, I had a place in Denver that did my maint until I moved to WY and decided fuck that I can do it myself, lol. I can tell the last time they did N OT do the secondary it was well worn and a piece had broke off and was in the chest.
Pan Am is sweet, but HD missed the trend when they spilt with Buell. Remember Buell made the Ulysses and that was a great bike. It was killed after the split.
I'm like you I hated the split with Buell I loved riding them. I was just looking at a Ulysses just the other day, they really should have continued productions.
I was like you in 1999. I put $1000 down and ordered my 2000 wide glide from Dick Farmer Harley Davidson here in Orlando. Took 14 months to get it. The dealers long gone now there’s just two dealer /mega stores here in the area.
I absolutely remember what it was like, I was lucky to get a 97 heritage springer, I put 500k miles on that bike, not as fast as a twin cam but damn that bike kept rolling and rolling, way better motor the Evo is.
@thepope9794 i have a 2008 street glide, but the 97 flsts motors are far more dependable, I hate to say it but I really don't approve of the direction harley took with twin cam and later models, they made the motors as disposable motors and reason I feel this way is because before twin cams when you did a cam upgrade or a rebuild you replaced the tappet blocks and lifters, currently the tappet blocks are a part of the engine case, so if you eat a lifter it's a complete engine loss as you need new cases..... don't get me wrong they're still a fine machine , but they won't lend themselves to the test of time loke the older motors. Power isn't everything.
Yea I remember those days. I remember going to the dealer and seeing a used Harley and they wanted just as much if not more than a new bike. The salesman told me that the bank would finance them all day long. The other problem was that it was hard to get insurance on one because of the theft rate. One insurance salesman quoted me 4500 bucks for a year, he told me it was because if your bike got stolen it usually was a zero recovery rate. It’s a shame what has happened now, I’m afraid that the Harley we knew will never come back and maybe will disappear.
I forgot about the insurance thing but your right. If you look at Harleys history it shows that they have a knack at pulling there self up from the brink of destruction, hope like hell they do it this time.
Johnny Powers Had A Garage Shop Down The Street /Alley From Me His Hands Were Pictured In 1939 Harley Manuel . I/m 71 Learned Alot From Him . Bike Shops Were Different In The 1960's. Just The Way Things Were Then .... Small Shops!
Yep definitely better back then. That was before the mega dealerships, I consider myself lucky to have been able to grow up back when it was like that. My dad used to take me with him to the dealer on summer avenue in Memphis T.N. , this was before Dan Bumpus bought it and turned into the mega dealership it is now. Funny thing is when I grew up that's who I went to work for wrenching on bikes.
I vote with my wallet. I don't want one cent of my money going to fund or promote things counter to my Christian views. Sadly, my boycott list is quite large and purchasing items can be a bit more difficult as a result. On the plus side, I'm 100% debt free and taking early retirement with the money I have saved over the last three decades of intentional and ethical consumerism.
I agree with you about the wallet. really it's the only thing we can control in life. but, after working as long as I did at the papermill, I can tell you that the heart of a company is the men and women in the trenches not the few at the top. I have to really put alot of thought into who am I really gonna hurt, hard working Americans or a couple rich assholes.
The ceo want all electric by2030, they are moving sporster s and panamerica to thailand to be built. Thats american made? Alot of american employees are gonna lose their jobs and the factories that buils stuff for harley here likely be losin jobs as well.
I talked to my fellow tech's and they said that it's just for the 2025 year so they can tool up and it's only the revolutionary max engine models that will be made there. But if we boycott then hard working Americans that are employed here will be hurt. Not rich CEO,s
Gibson guitars? Epiphone overseas…..?! Haha they need a historic line. Even if Revmax stays over seas. Populations growing it’s happening with most companies they have to do something to meet demands?!
I own a 2011 street glide it has EFI no ABS and I can work on it in my garage without any major issues. Todays bike are too computerized what happens in 5 years when the electronics are out of date just look at your home laptops or cellphones. I’ll stick with my older Harley any day. As far as the DEI stuff it’s the board and ceo forcing it not the little guy working on the line. They don’t care about the little guy or his family. Indian is doing a better job than HD like having a lower priced entry level bike vs HD not doing that. You make great points sir keep it up.
I rode Harleys for 30 years. I was at the 100th in Milwaukee too. I’ve got Indian now. I just got bored with Harley. I’m having more fun with the Indians I have now. No hate for the H-D bikes, but a person’s gotta ride what they like.
Absolutely. I ride several different brands and love them all. My wife one time asked me why I need so many bike's, I told her why you got so many shoes, she said because the all feel and look different. My reply was same thing, she never said anything else. I'm like you, I just like to ride.
Been riding 25 years 2008 FLSTSB will be as modern as I will ever get?! I love flatheads-Evos all my bikes are springers! Older I get the older the things I buy get. Harley should do a historic line knuckle/pan/shovel/evo option of hard or softail it would cover bases for a wider fan base. I grew up around the lifestyle but for the newer generations their is two camps new 135ci supercharged 2 into 1 exhaust tuned rockets or they want a “historic” motor/chopper/nostalgic looking sounding feeling bike what they have know Harley’s to be. Could talk for days?! 🤣 great topic and content Thanks!!!
I think people are just looking for something to be mad about. I dont give a crap about what rich people do in their board rooms. I just want to ride my motorsickle and enjoy time with my friends.
Yup, I put 1k down to get on the waiting list in late 2005 to get the New Willie G design Street Glide. Got the call it was in by the dealer in Jan 2006.
Yup ; couldn’t believe the value of my 2003 anniversary edition on jd power . Twice what my wife’s 2007 streetbob is . In great shape of course. Well ; maybe not now. All the hoopala going on . Easy come ; easy go - 😁👍👌
I remember the long wait times to get a new bike. I bought a bike in '99 but I didn't get it from HD. Not sure exactly how they were doing it but some broker was intercepting export bikes in Miami and moving them to a car dealer in South Carolina..... Anyway, I got a brand new bike with zero miles on it that was financed as used. It also had a few different parts on it than the ones at the HD dealer. Different mufflers, lights, speedo.. Still got it. Still waiting for a liquid cooled Ultra. But rumor is there will be no more Ultras.😖
Harley is moving production of Revolution Max powered models to Thailand for the 2025 model year and shipping them to the United States for sale to the American market. What does everyone think about that?
I know how you feel but who is actually buying them very few. The sportster s sucks I mean as long as we force them to keep the core stuff hear than we did our job.
I was employed there through 2012 and all the C-level cared about was stock price. They outsourced their IT department to India in 2012. There was no concern to image and dedication to produce product in the US for the US market. They just bought time to get through the union contract. They lost their core.
06 Harley I was telling you about. I was told it was the speedometer sensor. I replaced that but the speedometer still not making a sweep when you turn the key on and it’s not working. I need a new speedometer. What’s going on any help would be appreciated.
I was gonna delete it and tell you I figured it out but I got it figured out but I thought I just let you know I appreciate your channel and I’m gonna keep on watching my friend
@@deathproofproductions I believe that is one of the dangerous motorcycle races in the world. Here I’m stuck in southwest Virginia living amongst the blue ridge mountains.
Talking to some of my friend's that are tech's at the dealership, say its just the revolutionary max engine models that will be made there for the 2025 model year while they retool the plant, but you never really know. Most of the board work for other companies like Ford, Cummings, Starbucks and a few others they represent the interests of the stock holder's. The hard working Americans that are employed at the company are the heart of the company. Boycotts would just cause them to be layedoff and it would have very little impact on the rich assholes at the top.
@DeathProofProductions I ride a Harley, I've always ridden Harleys. I'm not boycotting H.D. I won't punish American workers because of the stupidity of that taliban loving ceo.i don't buy into the story, the move is temporary, that sounds like a whole lot of B's.
It’s not temporary? Just a small part of the manufacturing. Almost every product in our houses fall under the same category. I try to only buy USA made but it’s impossible.
Even products like boots say made in America they are “American Established” show up with China or Taiwan on the tongue damn near nothing is truly USA made anymore.if you contact these companies they just can’t keep up anymore with out out sourcing.
Harley didn't make it a 100 years the sold to AMF 1969 to1982 ,13 years later Harley bought it back AMF kept Harley a live & engineer & build the EVO the best thing that happened & saved Harley ,then Harley Developed the POS twin cam
I see what your saying and i get your point but company's that old have no original owners that are still there. The company is the line workers not the people that have the deed to the property and we need to support our fellow blue collar brother's and sisters. They build the bikes not those stupid stock holder's.
The local dealer wouldn’t even sell me a new bike back in those days, since I was a new customer, he insisted I buy a used bike first, and if I kept it one year and did all my services (with much emphasis on I better have services) with him,he would then allow me to trade it in on a new bike
@@deathproofproductions oh and that was for a used Sportster, I had cash and he just laughed when I said I wanted a Superglide, and would buy that day, nope.
Good video. I've been riding Harley-Davidson since 1970. I remember when Willie G brought out the "Night Train" and the "FXS Lowrider" and then the "Wide Glide" which brought in a lot of riders that wanted a "chopper like" factory custom. I too remember the days when you had to wait for a bike. Like you, I've seen a lot of changes with Harley D. I definitely don't like the changes today. I'm an old guy now, but I'm still riding my "pre woke" 1949,1957,1968and Twin-cam Harleys.
I'm like you the newest one I own is 20 years old. I love all my vintage ones to, just yesterday I was out on my 1978 1/2 fxs loving every minute of it.
Yep, the old ones are fun, and you have to know how to maintain them. The thing about it is, we never really own them, we are just caretakers for the Next Generation. I had a 78 1/2 Lowrider while I was still on active duty Vin 2F79068H8. Sometimes wonder where it is now.
I never seen any bikes at Harley Davidson dealership on the floors you could buy in the 90s. Once in a blue moon there was a used bike. Had to get on the list and order what you wanted.
I absolutely love your videos...especially the Pan restorations. Your tutorials and complete explanations have helped me out immensely. Here is what you need to look into further as the distilled version of your analysis that Starbuck is a failed politician motivated to boycott companies in order to win next time is inaccurate, and while in the past if you are a career politician, I would agree with you...this is not the case here and it assigns unsubstantiated motive. I ve seen many politicians I voted for fail in an election but that didn't make them a "failure" so I rule out this as his motivation. I've watched this CEO's speeches and encourage everyone here to do it as well and listen to what he says in his own words. I also disagree that its a simple as its just a few employees at a company into these things but the company would never do anything to sell less bikes. Yes, they want to sell more...but they view people like me as the old stereo typical biker and that the new breed will buy the "new globally green friendly" versions as long as their financial backer and the PC world assist them. This is a global battle designed to influence a great American company from within . On the contrary, Starbucks exposure to the wall st stock price game of being ESG & DEI compliant, PC correct set of board of directors who seeked out to find this CEO knowing full well what his core philosophies set in motion the demise of gas engine by 2035 and this is a detriment which led to the CEO calling all of us "types" out as the enemy...those of us who supported the company even as they left us if we had bikes older than 10 years old. The electric motorcycle was a direct result of CEO's new corporate global, PC vision along with all policies of and relating to vendors, product design and support. Try being a great vendor and not meeting their "criteria" which is not in keeping with who makes the best parts/best price but meeting DEI /ESG scores. The CEO of HD sets policy, tone and direction including R&D, marketing, DEI vendor choices etc. the very same issues, you rightly point out as being diversionary from HD being successful are a result of the CEO's core policies he along with his BOD set in place and it affects everything from engines to trannys to quality control and new models. By unearthing all of this CEO videos of him speaking about the how and why's of his direction answered a lot for me and I stand firmly in camp that the new CEO and some of BOD don't want us as part of their new global vision, which is clearly stated in their own writings and on camera interviews. Written with respect to you.
I agree completely with most of what your saying. Most of the skills you see me do were not taught to me by Harley, like the welding and machining and such, these are skills that I gained working over 10 years at the papermill as a maintenance millwright. That gave me a intement understanding of how manufacturing facility's work. We are a union plant and are part of the same union as the men and women that work at Harley, these hard working Americans are the heart of the company and want motorcycle sales to increase just like corporate, like our plant they negotiate a contract but they can't make decisions on the corporate level. I was planing that vid before this controversy started to tell my story of what I seen as the bad decisions they were making from me being there. I really didn't want to get into the it that's why I saved it for last but the last thing I want to see is a boycott that really only hurts my fellow blue collar brother's and sisters, not the rich people at the top. I know first hand how hard it is to see your kids not have much for Christmas. It's true we are the old timers on the way out, the fact is a great % of us are not going to buy a new bike because we love the one we have. alot of the people wanting to boycott hadn't bought more than a t-shirt in years. For Harley to survive they have to tap into the younger market and the other motorcycle trends, if not they will have to close doors and hundreds of employees are out on there ass. Motorcycles are the great passion of my life, So it means alot to me to see the entire industry thrive and a younger generation fall in love with riding. Thanks for the compliment means alot to know your work is appreciated and if there is a vid you would like to see made just let me know.
@@deathproofproductions Thank you sir. I respect the work you do for TBI too in trying to bring awareness to it and even your sandwich cooking in between heads video was right up my alley! Well, I would absolutely love to see a knuckle rebuild as there are very few who bring your precision, and high quality production values to the podcasting world...too many comedy posers if you ask me but too each their own. Anything you can offer on Pans, from builds to maintenance is appreciated too as its an underserved market. How to make run, troubleshoot methodology, even a complete primer on all things timing are stand alone videos that'll will always get views because you do it right and explain/film/edit extremely well. I too understand the Christmas gift scenario first hand. I took a gift given to me from my boss, get this to TSC and used it as a down payment on one of those JD toy tractors for my son. How weird is that for this discussion? I understand your points about boycotts hurting the blue collar folks that make everything work on a daily basis. Secretly, I bet the workers are happy too we are raising the issues to effectuate change in lieu of getting laid off or having to strike as they can't be happy by being forced to attend white male fragility classes, along with other nonsense not critical to their core mission statement of building great American bikes and changing tastes that I understand as well. Evo's saved their ass...so why put throwaway flywheels in their new models aka planned obsolescence from another marketing "genius"?! its similar to a union strike in the sense that we always get our paychecks whacked. The corporate board will get whacked on this however with stock price and not hitting their contractual targets, and/or have their professional CEO reputation for turning companies around shattered...and for that I am all in. Take care, thanks, keep up the great work. Have HD corp hire you and me to consult..we can fix this for them at a fraction of what they waste on Jochen zeitz's contract as he throws the founder's vision down the drain. If they change and get back on track this could be a great thing for the brand and bikes.
I'm with you, we have alot better understanding of the market then that clown. They should have hired us about 10 years ago. A knuck vid is a good idea, I got a buddy that has several, I will reach out to him see if I can get one to restore. Thanks.
I agree with you about the board members but after working as long as I did at the papermill I can tell you that the heart of a company is the men and women in the trenches, without them there is no company. Trust me the dickheads in that board room can't build no cycle. For myself I'm not gonna punish hard working Americans for the decision of a few people at the top.
Thats true, our papermill is part of the same union as them. They could threaten to strike if the board doesn't realign its policy but after living through one I know how tough a decision that is to make. I had savings to get through it but those young guy's were really hurting.
I live in the culture I choose, live and let live, don't care what others do or look like. Your points at 10:45 is interesting and I would add that the 4_wheeler, scrambler, outback farm people had established RELATIONSHIP with those particular dealers and that fact was the pipeline to two wheeler deals aside from HD motor company.
Thats very true, hadn't thought the relationship with the dealer. I'm like you when it comes to the culture I choose to live in, I tell people all the time that I just want to ride my bike get loaded and not be hassled by the man.
I vote we put your blood, sweat and tears of knowledge on the board of Harley Davidson. Should promote from within and quit losing the best of the best. Learned a lot from you through the years. And I think motorcycles should be left to those that wrench and ride. Leave the politics out.
I agree 100%, from what I learned working at steelmills and the papermill that promoting from within puts a leader in charge with intimate knowledge of the company and customer. What we see now is the result of becoming a publicly traded company, the result is people making decisions about things they know nothing about.
I agree with take things with a grain of salt. But you are ignoring what the overpaid CEO has said at the Human Globalization conference. As well as the CEO of Black Rock, and maybe you don’t know the relevance of Black Rock and Vanguard. The two are the same the only difference is one is publicly traded, and these two companies are the highest Share holders in most Fortune 500 companies, and dictate a lot of what these companies do. For instance they are the reason insurance companies have left and or sky rocketed fees in the state of Florida.
The problem that I have with what Robby Starbucks is that he isn't thinking or doesn't care about what his actions are going to potentially do, hurt the hard working Americans working the line. If sales drop because of a boycott it just hurts them when there layedoff. It won't affect rich c.e.o.'s and it won't hurt his rich ass. Thats why I strongly believe his motivation is political, why would we elect someone that doesn't care about blue collar workers. I know first hand how hard it is to be layedoff off and make ends meet. Your right I'm not aware of black rock or vanguard, really don't know what they do.
Your argument is ignorant and short sighted. Harley is sending their jobs overseas as we speak. If you want to help blue collar Americans, quit schilling for the foreign billionaires that at screwing them over.
If they are, should we speed up the process of layoffs by boycotting. Im old and don't know what Schilling is so I'm not sure if I'm doing it or not but I assure you I'm not for no billionaires assholes or politician here or overseas. What I know is that me and my friends at the papermill are the hard working blue collar hands that are just like those line workers at Harley, that don't want a boycott. So please tell me how me our them are not as America as you. Do you think we want to hang out our agree with some CEO dickheads, no what those employees need is for Americans not to abandon them, they havn't aboandond you
I believe that Harley fell down the LBGTQetc and DEI rabbit hole because of the CEO and board of directors that none of them are Motorcycle enthusiasts or really can relate to Harley-Davidson core customers. Just my opinion...
What's crazy to me is stockholders elect the board of directors, they want there stock's to go up so why would they not elect people who actually have a interest in the product there making.
I buy American cars and motorcycles because I want to employ American workers. It's that simple. I am partial to GM cars and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Watching Robby Starsuck try to resurrect his political ambitions on the backs of talented and hard-working American workers is sickening to me. He is hurting good people and he doesn't care. I will continue buying Harley-Davidsons and hope the hysteria he created dies down so Americans can continue building my favorite motorcycles.
Hell yeah Im with you 100%, I wish in the video I went into that a little more. When I buy Harley Davidson products my money Is helping to feed the kids of the men and women in the trenches that are building the bikes, only a portion goes to the CEO. I work in a papermill that makes box paper for fridgedare and I hope like hell nobody boycotts them. If so me and 600 co-workers would be out on our ass until sales pic up. RUclips donates to the lgbtqTrevor project yet you don't see people boycott them, you do see channel's on RUclips trying to get views and money off the back of this. Kinda hypocritical isn't it.
I’m 66,I remember! I talked to you last week about your heritage and what year it was , well I bought a 06 heritage it was so cheap I couldn’t resist. 28000 miles cams hydraulic cams already added. Prices are falling, never seen anything like it. Harley went woke and destroying a legend can’t understand why. People talk about Indian but aren’t they owned by Polaris? They went woke a long time ago. Go figure
Absolutely right, I think people dont realize that a boycott just hurts the hard working Americans that are employed at the company with layoffs, not the rich assholes at the top. For me I have to really put alot of thought into it before I hurt one of my fellow blue collar brother's or sisters.
You make me laugh David. I love the way you tell your stories. I just picked up a shed find 2001 Heritage w/23000 miles for $3900. It's a little crusty on the outside but inside the cam chest is nice and clean. I'm putting in new tensioners and keeping it stock for now. I especially appreciated your take on NOT needing to upgrade everything in the chest. I'm putting in new inner cam bearings and gaskets and o-rings and that's it. This is my first time going into an engine and I really thank you for the how to videos.
I'm glad my video's have helped and thanks for the compliment on my stories. It's crazy that I've gotten old enough to have stories to tell. As a young Harley tech I didn't have money to waste on upgrades for my bike, so I had to figure out was it really needed. 200,000 miles later i know for a fact it's not. Good find on that heritage.
HD production during the Twin Cam years of 2000-2016 was NEVER under 200,000 bikes. Most years were over 250,000 bikes. 2004-2008 were above 300,000 bikes, with 349,196 bikes being sold in 2006. HD sold 162,771 bikes in 2023, a WHOPPING 53.4% DECREASE FROM 2006! HARLEY-DAVIDSON IS DYING! 😵
Take advantage of the overproduction of twin cam bikes from 2000 -2016, there's some low mileage sweet deals and it's going to get better for the buyer.
I only bought one new motorcycle in my life, a 1975 Norton Commando. All my other bikes have been used. My first Harley and my current Harley are the same, a 2000 Heritage that was a total and I restored. I am 70 now and have no plans to buy another bike. As for boycotting Harley, like you said, it doesn´t male sense as all companies have to follow corporate non-discrimination laws.
You know I dont know if you Remember 1970 when honda came out . And Honda took a Bite out of Harley they never went out. Or when AMF TOOK OVER THE SHOVEL . EVERYONE was going to stop Buying Harley . Harley still here just like now . Omy Harley went woke Big fN Deal .
You forgot to mention a few points in regards to HD, outdated, overpriced, underperforming, unreliable tractors, best they stick to the T-shirt business!😂😂😂
I'm with you 100% but just because some wanna be politician sayes it don't mean it's true. Actually if a politician says it then it's prolly not. I know that those hard working Americans that are one the assembly line are like me and you, don't hurt them because some stock holder's opinion. Support them there on your side and they are the brand not the rich assholes at the top.
No one on this earth should promote surgery for minors. Anyone doing that should be locked away as a child abuser! Not sure why people are doing these things we all want to figure out what will help the situation here what’s done is done he’s in the position not sure why or how but it happened. It needs to be corrected but many good families are connected to the brand? How do we help is the ?
Sorry to disagree, but by no means is Harley Davidson neutral. They are balls deep supporting this woke nonsense. Between that and not making the Bikes in the USA..Is a death sentence.
From what I've been told by some pals that still work at the dealership, it is only the revolutionary max engine models that will be made there for the 2025 model year while they retool the plant. but you never really know. If we are mad at them for taking jobs overseas then we shouldn't boycott them, if we do it just hurts the hard working Americans that they employ with layoffs , not the rich assholes at the top.
Ok you might be right, lets think about it how do you break a union and i was in the same one at the papermill. Drive down sales close the doors than reopen elsewhere. If we boycott we give them what they want, which is drive down sales. Do we really want to hurt Americans, not me I stand loyal to them not give rich dickheads what they want.
Wow. what a delivery of BS. Before you even get to the beliefs part, how do you feel about forcing dei down on employees and give them No choice. If you resist, you are terminated immediately. Guess you didn't do much homework on the dei platforms....racism just dressed up. I see now that your entire pontification here is a planned rah rah for harley
No my rah rah is for the men and women working on the line, they are the heart of the company not some asshole stock holder's. And I don't want them hurt because of some bullshit. I'm in the same union and no they don't terminate us if we don't choose to go to the dei training. So I guess living it is not doing homework I suppose I should Google it.
I'm like you my 04 heritage will be my last for the exact same reason.
31 but I definitely agree
I’m 63, totally agree. Have 2 Evos and a Pan that I can wrench on.
I kinda like the pan America but I'm with you on the rest and the street models were freaking ridonculous.
A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Yes I lived through that, I built custom choppers in my garage and I couldn’t build them fast enough. 2008 came and it was like turning the switch off completely
I build swap meet special bobbers and the price of parts got stupid. Maybe we can start up again!
Thats very true I hadn't thought of that.
I just found your channel and I’m happy to support a local RUclipsr, Paragould here.
Heck yeah, I'm originally from that area, used to work at nucor years ago. Bought my first new bike in Jonesboro. Thanks for subscribing
So true. And if you read and understand the annual statements, Schedule Ks and Board minutes for the past 3 years, you come out of trance immediately
Me too😊 used to go there alot.
I'm glade to see that I'm not the only one that remembers that.

@@TheKiloG69 was that when Stuart Harley was on Indian St.?
No offense, but when they are throwing DEI parties and fund raisers at the national headquarters, then yes, it's the whole company.
100% I was going to follow him till the stuff he said at the end, if he did a little research he would see .
But all is good you have a nice day
@DeathProofProductions then as a member of the company you should stand your ground and fight it. Not make excuses
Glade my video helped. It's crazy how things have changed over the years.
I'm curious as to how many miles did you have on that Night train b4 you changed out those inner cam bearings ,along with the tensioners. ✌️
@@scottliegel855 57k when I put on the cyco gaskets, that was not all the miles on those shoes, I had a place in Denver that did my maint until I moved to WY and decided fuck that I can do it myself, lol. I can tell the last time they did N

Thats something I should have mentioned in the vid. The mega stores were probably not a good idea in the long run.
I absolutely remember what it was like, I was lucky to get a 97 heritage springer, I put 500k miles on that bike, not as fast as a twin cam but damn that bike kept rolling and rolling, way better motor the Evo is.
My 02 FLSTS has 110k did the cam chest upgrade and cams . It's 2025 I'm still riding ole girl

Thanks
I'm with you on a historic line, wouldn't have to produce them in big numbers but it would help them tap into a niche market.
I think people are just looking for something to be mad about. I dont give a crap about what rich people do in their board rooms. I just want to ride my motorsickle and enjoy time with my friends.
Hell yeah that's what I'm talking about, me and you are on the same page.
Hell yea
I bought my 98 Softail custom in 2000 & they had nothing but used bikes in stock at the dealership.
Agree the younger generation not into riding motorcycles, the future of the sport of motorcycles is in trouble.
Very true.
I didn't know about the ultras. What model is your 99.
Nice work. Learned a lot. Keep it coming.. 👍

I know how you feel but who is actually buying them very few. The sportster s sucks I mean as long as we force them to keep the core stuff hear than we did our job.

I'm with you heck im in the same union at the papermill as them. lets just hope that what they say is true and its just for 2025.
I don’t think it can be?! But it’s ok. Small portion of manufacturing! Harley will be just fine.
I was employed there through 2012 and all the C-level cared about was stock price. They outsourced their IT department to India in 2012. There was no concern to image and dedication to produce product in the US for the US market. They just bought time to get through the union contract. They lost their core.
Me and you were in the same union.
06 Harley I was telling you about. I was told it was the speedometer sensor. I replaced that but the speedometer still not making a sweep when you turn the key on and it’s not working. I need a new speedometer. What’s going on any help would be appreciated.

Moving manufacturing to Taiwan is the stink in the room, my pov.
Your probably right, it's one of those time will tell things.
Harley didn't make it a 100 years the sold to AMF 1969 to1982 ,13 years later Harley bought it back
AMF kept Harley a live & engineer & build the EVO the best thing that happened & saved Harley ,then Harley Developed the POS twin cam
I see what your saying and i get your point but company's that old have no original owners that are still there. The company is the line workers not the people that have the deed to the property and we need to support our fellow blue collar brother's and sisters. They build the bikes not those stupid stock holder's.
Agreed!
I’ve seen plenty of twin cams with 120k or more miles sure you can’t true the crank but buying a new one works just fine too
The local dealer wouldn’t even sell me a new bike back in those days, since I was a new customer, he insisted I buy a used bike first, and if I kept it one year and did all my services (with much emphasis on I better have services) with him,he would then allow me to trade it in on a new bike
Thats the way it was back before they started making the mega dealerships.

Alot of people these days don't even believe it was like that back in the day.
Thanks.

You had me up until the board members thing. They are all educated sheep with group think.
@DeathProofProductions Agreed. However, the workers hold a lot of power as well.
Thats true, our papermill is part of the same union as them. They could threaten to strike if the board doesn't realign its policy but after living through one I know how tough a decision that is to make. I had savings to get through it but those young guy's were really hurting.
@@deathproofproductions 👍
Agreed
Do you think we want to hang out our agree with some CEO dickheads, no what those employees need is for Americans not to abandon them, they havn't aboandond you
I remember. Yup. Longtime enthusiast.
Great points on this. The political stuff is all unfortunate and a waste of energy. Hoping the company can find a good profit stream and stay healthy
Very true
I believe that Harley fell down the LBGTQetc and DEI rabbit hole because of the CEO and board of directors that none of them are Motorcycle enthusiasts or really can relate to Harley-Davidson core customers.
Just my opinion...
What's crazy to me is stockholders elect the board of directors, they want there stock's to go up so why would they not elect people who actually have a interest in the product there making.
Well done!
Yes sir! Agree!
@@deathproofproductions couple friends rib me about buying another Harley really I don’t give a shit I’ve always owned Harleys since my 69 fl.
I know, it hurts me to see that.
Take advantage of the overproduction of twin cam bikes from 2000 -2016, there's some low mileage sweet deals and it's going to get better for the buyer.
Buddy of mine just called to tell me he got a 03 superglide for 2500.00, definitely not 1990 any more.
Remember jingle mail ?
I do
Truth
Damn good video!
Thanks
2003 Dyna for 2800 10 years ago give or take
If I was gonna buy an adventure bike it wouldn’t be a Harley
It would surely be an adventure, just nothing to do with actual riding
I've rented BMW' s and triumph adv bikes and they were fun but I'm really intrigued with the pan America.
Greetings, Glad your well..rob Jesus to pay the devil..ends soon..prayers for thy journey..Peace😎
Brother, What are you even saying? 😂
Working at best buy they sent emails that we need to stand with George Floyd and another how important it is to vote Democrat
Hd ceo gotta go
I guess you didn't watch Zites video.
Who is zites
Its promoting surgury for minors bothers me
I'm with you 100% but just because some wanna be politician sayes it don't mean it's true.
They didn’t build two complete factories overseas to use for one year while retooling. If anyone actually told you that they are not your pals.
Agree with both of you Revmax is not temp. But neither was Epiphone to Gibson it’s ok. Don’t crucify families because of a few idiotic CEO penguins?
you didnt think they had gone queer when they put a radio on a motorcycle and a cigarette lighter?
Came from Vassmotorsports...liked n subbd 👍
Wow. what a delivery of BS.
Don’t believe everything you read online might make you trance minded! ⬆️
