Thank you again for being you Granny Pat💜 Thought I would mention this “tidbit” too. I believe it’s when you’re in the kitchen, but I am of the generation and “type” that likes the “tick- tick-tock” of your clock. I remember my mom used to tell me for puppies and babies that the sound of the clock ⏰ can be soothing to them. It’s funny though, my children ( who mainly had digital clocks, even in schools) do not like the “tick-tick-tick” sound. When they are going to sleep as adults, they will even move a clock so there isn’t ticking in the background. Do you think it is a generational thing? I do not mind it all and find it comforting.🕰️⏰⏱️🕝

Such a gorgeous serving dish. In the 50’s and 60’s, I remember we would dump all the ingredients minus the sour cream or whip cream in a bowl without strawberries then stir it all together along with walnuts or pecans and maraschino cherries. Lastly we would add sour cream or real whip cream as needed. Often we would leave out the sour cream or whip cream and serve it as fruit salad. We always had it during the hot summertime in California.
    I’m drooling.
    Ever heard of
    Perfection Salad?
That’s an oldie. Thinly shredded cabbage, diced celery, thinly sliced bell peppers and pimento pieces. Dissolve clear gelatin with water, vinegar and sugar. Pour veggies in container then pour on the clear gelatin covering it.
Refrigerate until set up. Turn out upside down on to frilly lettuce on a clear serving dish.
If anyone wants the recipe I can add it here.

I love your voice💕 and I have always loved Ambrosia salad - like you, sometimes I just get a hankering for it. Besides being colourful, which does look so pretty- but the pastel marshmallows are actually fruit flavoured! ( Definitely adds some extra flavor) I also add maraschino cherries and some of the “juice” ( sort of almond flavour) Strawberries and/or raspberries and nuts make great additions too💜

I remember my mother having the hadwritten recipe for Ambrosia Salad on an index card. She made this as a treat for us at least 50 years ago. Never seen it as 5 cup salad and we're from the Eastern Kentucky coal fields of Pike County kentucky. 1 big difference though, my sister still has the original index card with the recipe on it....But...it does not include COOL whip. Instead, the recipe called for Dream Whip. And that makes all the difference in the taste of the recipe.

    • @chitchatwithgrannypat7900

@chitchatwithgrannypat7900 Yes! They still make it. It comes in a box...but is so much more flavorful than cool whip and a little sweeter. Ambrosia was a favorite treat growing up as it was cheap to make and mom and daddy had 6 children. I love watching your videos so much. In Minnesota, we call this fruit salad.( I think outside of a handful of states in the Midwest, fruit salad is mixed fruit, with some kind of lemon juice and powdered sugar for a dressing.) My grandmother made the best I've ever tasted and for the life of me I can't replicate it. She used the fruit flavored marshmallows like you do, but would often add some jello powder to flavor the cream with raspberry. I make a banana split fruit salad with banana pudding mix, whippee cream, sliced bananas in a little lemon juice, diced maraschino cherries, crushed pineapple, and marshmallows. It's enough to rot every tooth out of your mouth, but by is it a treat on special occasions.

This does bring back memories from my childhood sitting at my grandma’s table full of family waiting to eat our Easter meal. She had pecans in hers.😊

Watch JADEITE, PYREX, AND CORNING WARE. I stopped adding to my collection over 25 years ago. Too expensive.

    🌺yep, it’s a oldie but goodie!
I surprised you didn’t put pecans in it too. Here we use macadamia nuts.
