How Good is this 10-year Old Honda Civic FD 2.0, Tested on Genting? | YS Khong Driving
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 сен 2024
- Introduced in 2006, the Honda Civic FD came with front MacPherson struts and double wishbone suspension at the rear.
YS Khong takes this 2010 version up in his favourite test run up Genting to check out the car after the owner said it felt " weird" after following YS' suggestions on wheel alignment settings.
YS later finds out the owner ( who wishes to remain anonymous) actually meant that he was not used to his own car's new handling characteristics after the new alignment set up.
See for yourself how the car handles in the hands of an expert driver.
On another note, it's hats off to Honda for designing such a great car that can still hold its own against even the latest cars.
Love to see reviews of more common cars rather than rich man toys. This is fantastic.
Agreed fully!!!!
This like top gear version of "put a star in reasonably priced car"
agreed..
Agree
agree
FD Civic model were a revolution in terms of design for Honda back then. It still is a looker till this day. I've seen a few of them in Grey tones and dark big rims which looks absolutely stunning. This video exposed your cornering speeds more evidently due to the digital readings. Another great drive sir👍!
Uncle, thank you so much for this type of review we're waiting for.. as you know, there have been lack of professional review for cars older than 5 years.. and we still can see all sort of cars like this on road.. existing owner will really appreciate this video and upcoming used car owner will treasure this review alot. Good job uncle.
The era where the real Honda once is
timeless design... my favorite civic for all-time
We proceed with caution....

moments later: Genting Drifto mode on!
This car was developed by Honda Canada in early 2000s and sold as Acura CSX from 2005 onwards. Honda Japan was so impressed during 2003 visit to Canada that they use their blueprint. And in 2006, FD was born. I am proud owner of Sparking Grey Pearl 2008 FD 2.0S. Bought new and totally stock. My rear wheel bearings changed 1-3 times (L - R respectively). Rear double wishbones still Factory fitted since 2008. Plugs just changed once. Current mileage 163,000km only.
Great!
I believe the FD Civic has aged pretty well being a 10 year old car.
Yes, I was quite impressed
Memory memory....I used to have this type of car many years ago. Thank you Mr. Khong.
FD. That’s a very nice car. I used to drove 1.8. But i never know its a double wishbone at rear. Thanks for the info sir
U R welcome
Finally I can see how does the Civic FD2 K20Z performance and Handling while going to Getting Highland
I own one since 2008 and enjoy driving it till now. Great car and good looking.
Honda Civic 2.0 is a great car, it can challenge any BMW or Merc when come to power. It’s engine is still working perfect being so called old car.
I have the exact same car now, fd2. No way fd can challenge bmw or merc in term of power.
NA vs turbo
of course, cant agree more, bmw merc vw lots of problems.
so what is the magic number? does it apply to other cars as well? xD Please teach us more about the wheel.
Thanks :D
fd design is evergreen even i own all new fc i still like fd design
Same. Own tcp facelift 2020 but still impress with fd design
i love the front fc design...but somehow fd design still makes mans still want it
Thank you Mr. Khong for sharing. Nice review. From your review we can know tht Mr. Khong really enjoy and never look down any car.. and also really respect the car no matter how cheap and how expensive the car is. happy to subscribe your channel.
Thank you Eric Fong. We need all the subscribers we can get.
love how it stopped beeping when you reached the bottom
Temp went down because we slowed down.
Subscribed to your channel quite some time back when I commented about how I still love my 14 year old 2006 Civic FD 2.0 with double wishbone rear setup (besides recalling my teenage years reading about your rally victories on the Star newspaper).... think that could be why Toyota with TNGA having double wishbone too. Whilst mine is well "vintaged" at 14 years with 340000km+ it still pack a good and fun drive for daily commute be it on the highway or trunk roads! ☺
wow 340k! spareparts still easy for a 2006?
The Civic FD was indeed a gem. Esp the 2.0 where u for 3k above u can get the headers from Honda Odyssey Absolute. Stroke up to 2.4cc but 200hp obtained. Can be done in specialised Honda workshops. Ya don't need to spent a fortune for a k20a swap.
Had a 1.8 but had to sold it for a HRV for family use . Not powerful but definitely can sense the chassis can handle corners well. Maybe I might wanna opt for a 2.0 someday.
Only if I was living in KL, I would want uncle to take my Satria Neo for a run 🙋🏽♂️
Im a simple guy, i see an old man speeding in genting touge, i press like.
Uncle you are soo friendly, pretty sure your subscriber will jump up sooner or later..
After watching so many of your genting climb and tips, I actually memorized some corner and tackle corner on my last week trip...Thanks Uncle Khong...
P/s my passenger got annoyed coz I try mimic you...haha
Now you totally need to find a 2.0 inspira to go up genting too! Please please! Or even a 1.8mt inspira! Love your footwork
Thanks. Problem is getting those old cars.
@@YSKhongDriving As someone has mentioned in the comments, the current owners of the car and future owners will be super grateful to you if you could dedicate yourself in finding ways to test drive these old gems that are still very viable to own.
Pretty sure most if not all the 2nd hand car dealers will be willing to lend you to test drive in return of some shout out for their showroom or something.
@@YSKhongDriving pretty sure u can easily get the car
I really appreciate this video! I live in the US and have a 2009 civic Si but I will be moving to asia next week and was considering buying one of these
Loved this once, more common cars and also uncle please try to get your hands on some modded cars with engine conversions, etc. It would be good content!
nice review uncle this is the best car ever for me
Damn 150kph at gohtong Jaya. You are legend!
he went 170 in the civic type r haha true legend
Videos may be sped up for dramatic effect.
@@YSKhongDriving lol. Understood
YS Khong Driving yes of course! Everyone drives at 90 😍🤩❤️❤️
Ya .. videos can be sped up but not the speedometer to show that number ... 150km up genting ... fuyooh 🤣
A bit unnerving that the oil temp alarm is coming on so early...plus in a cool weather location too. Wonder why an oil cooler is not a stock item....
my fd2 was bought in 2006 and it's still going strong
Yes, its a great car.
Watching from Philippines! Btw im not a Malaysian im a Filipino. I always enjoy your vids!
Thank you. Please subscribe and share with your friends. I have many friends in the automotive journalism field in your country. Cheers, SubieWoo.
Your welcome sir! I've already done it. Cheeerz!
I have the exact same car but mannn it doesn't feel as close to what i see here... Amazing! The low end torque to these babies are horrible but i do love the free revving engine! Solid!
Yes, you have to rev it up.
yes, pls share the magic numbers on tuning.... luv this car from design, gearbox ecu, throttle respond and interiors. and highly customisable.
Please read the replies on this thread
Sir YS Khong this video is good even though it is not a type r it’s still fullfill my request. Also keep safe sir
this car still selling high value in used car market, doubt Uncle was showed this is the reason why
Wish i could be free n happy like u in my retire days, Sir.
You can. Your life is exactly how you want it to be. Choose to be happy, and you will be happy.
Sweet driving..... Yup, the new alignment setting looks great.
he's good ... he's drivin' well as he push the car to its limits...
Hey uncle, this is the concept M version right! Looks so familiar because I am driving the same version too! Love it !
Not too sure about that
@@YSKhongDriving Never mind! Thanks for taking the time to respond to me. Cheers.
By the way, do you use VSA off on this ?
Could u do a 2010 avante/elantra run by any chance? 😂 Would like to see how capable it is to climb
The main problem is getting the car.
@@YSKhongDriving for sure your viewer will gladly give it to you for test.. was hoping someone lending you Elantra Sport turbo ..
@@YSKhongDriving uncle someone offering you to test switf sport manual.. check it on comment..

Me too! This is the concept M too right in the video? It has the same body kit and color of the wheels.
One of my dream cars 2006 above
What is the irritating beeping sound?
Awesome video from uncle again
Sounds like the aftmkt water/oil temp on the visor, just look at the needle before climbing and when it started beeping 😂
Edit: @9:35 mark, it's the oil temp
Hi, would be glad for you to take my satria neo r3 cps up to genting 😄
Please pm.
Yes please!

looking forward to seeing your car bro
Sir please do video about test drive old car like this
Hey uncle khong. I'm one of your fan here. Since you are trying older car, would you be keen to try tx3 / lynx kj /mazda bh 1.8 NA manual to climb genting. Wish to see you push its limits.
Btw, im driving lynx kj as well. That's why i wish to see the full potential of the car. You can check out mine. 😁
Om please
You mean pm please? 😏👍
Nice review.tqvm sir…mantap terbaik hebat moga murah rezeki
uncle, your driving is very nice!
uncle, nice review. u r the best.
Well thats was my car.. considered to upgrade the engine to k24 odc 201hp which is cost me 3k only.. very cheap and reliable car
FD are affordable nowadays. And a lot of aftermarket parts. Just waiting for the k20a engine swap.
Uncle very interesting to heard that are magic number of the alignment.my all 4myvi tyre botak all inside and outside but still remain on the middle and its still ticker..my front air pressure is 220psi and 200 at the rear.tyre using 195/50/15..thanks in advance uncle
Better change the tyres quickly.
Uncle should put on shades when doing morning Genting climb🤔😎👍😂
hi Uncle, great video! Enjoyed seeing you go up the winding road. Would you know if this FD2 had its ECU reflashed? I couldn't get mine to go past 4k RPM. Thanks!
If tou cannot gwt it to go more than 4k, something is wrong with your ecu or your engine. This suggests it is in limp mode
@@YSKhongDriving thank you Uncle! i will have it checked. :)
HI Uncle Khong, nice driving, love your videos! I have the same exact car. Can I have those magic numbers please! much appreciated!
Toe out the front 1.0m each, negative camber 1.0 degrees for all 4 wheels, toe in the rear wheels 1.0 mm each side. And you are done!
Let me know how it drives.
YS Khong Driving thank you sir! Will update you soon
@@YSKhongDriving Hi Sifu Khong, just tell those tyre shop setup like this ? Roughly how much they charge extra on top of normal balancing and alignment for 17" wheel. Is it suitable for W212 e200? Tq
Nice uncle!! I want to try this setup 👍👍
Uncle Khong, what are those magic numbers?
Check the comments in this thread
Hi uncle thank you so much for review this car. Can you review City GM2?
You have a car?
@@YSKhongDriving unfortunately I don't have the car. Anyone here came across my comment willing to land the car? 😂 TQ
Sir can you let me know the settings for kenari and kelisa too?
is it same as below?
1 degree negative camber all round, 1 mm toe in each side for front, and 1 mm toe in each side for rear.
Yes.
Hi Uncle YS, hope to see that you try out the old Proton Inspira(1.8/2.0) on Genting run.
I miss my old fd... it feels so low to the ground like a gocart and can feel every bump on the road
I am driving the exact same model FD2 2000cc Auto, own this beauty for 7years. I found that driving on flat surface is doing pretty ok but when goes up genting, the engine output seems to be on the weak side.
Even on full throttle (Most of the time 2nd & 3rd gear), i feel that the car is lack of torque.
my car is 12years old now but still in pretty good condition, i am thinking to upgrade to another car soon.
Would like to know if you have suggestion on the car model that should look out for? I like car with better engine performance but i don't race car as i am a responsible road user.
Then the new Civic 1.5 Turbo might be right for you.
Excellent driving
Hope you could test Passat cc’s!
Mind sharing that magic numbers for the wheel setup uncle? I'd love to try them too on my FD 😃
For FD, toe out the front 0.8 to 1.0 mm each side, toe in the rear 0.8 to 1.0mm each side, set camber at negative 1.0 degrees all round. For track use, increase negative camber to about 2.5 degrees.
Thank you sir!!
Hi Uncle Khong, a viewer from Johor here.
Love this Civic FD too! My family had once before but ended selling out, but I really loving this so I'm thinking to buy another back.
As now the selling price of a FD 2.0 is at about RM50k, does Uncle Khong had any advise on this? Like anything needed to check carefully or anything that needs to pay attention to?
Generally, loik for a car with a good condition body. All other parts can be changed. If other parts are in bad condition, knock the price down accordingly. Then be prepared to pay to get them replaced. A ggod after market suspension and brake upgrade is suggested before anything else.
What about the R18A? Cause the 2.0 doesn't have manual transmission only Automatic ( well at least in country it is)
"Only 155hp" Man that's already high for a country where I live in. Most sedans here are in the 60-120hp range.
Hmmm, where do you live?
Nice to see older cars tested, could I request for the Accord Euro 2.4 and Euro R.. and all the Type-Rs.. pls do a special Honda collection, follow by Evo, WRX, 200SX, RX7, 300ZX, GTR, you know where im heading :)
Hahaha, great plan. Problem is getting these old cars.
Even the CL9 Accords with the 6MT is beautiful to drive!
any good lobang to sell their good condition fd2r at cheap price? =D
Anyone knows are civic hybrid fd3 using same double wishbone for the rear setup?
Mr Khong, can advise what to look out for when buying a used car. I am looking at cars that are 28-30 years old as of 2020 (Year 1990-1992 car), Merc 190E or Merc 200E / E200 or Toyota Camry (1990s) or Corolla Altis (2010) ? I saw your clip about your BMW too, mentioned about rust, some joints to look out for accidents but no other specifics on how to evaluate a used car. Thank you.
Good comment. Let's see if we can do a video. This would interest others too.
Orang lama, cara lama.. Salute sir..
Hi Uncle Khon, I am from Singapore and just bought an auto FD2.0 also as its my dream car. Regarding brakes to warm up, how do you know if they are ready heated? Just trying to learn, or what’s the best way to know cold or hot brakes currently😅
For standard cars and standard brakes, it takes about 5 to 10 corners to warm up. Racing brakes will take about 1 lap on a circuit of 3 to 5km to warm up
Baca tajuk terus tekan like 👍🏼
I wondering is it the oil temperature alarm is needed for every car or just for FD only. the oil temperature alarm is additional gadget right? i use Honda Jazz is it i need to plug in this alarm
Not really necessary. Anyway the one on the car was not original, and I think it was not accurate.
Can please give some tips on upgrading power for proton saga 1.3 cvvt auto, rims, tyre etc. Tq sir. Great reviews always
Thanks for the kind words. Regarding the engine power, there is nothing much you can do.
You might want to upgrade the brakes to the 1.6 Persona brakes. I believe it's a straight fit: the latest Iriz has this.
civic fd gearbox easily get overheat,, must be careful. mine get overheat and get jerking, luckily it get better after few times of oil change.
Is yours a 2010 model? I've heard the ones earlier than 2010 has issues
wa, uncle is a racer man...good skill
Great drive great car and superb driver!
Uncle Khong, for rear suspension how to differentiate double wishbone and independent suspension? Or are they the same?
Hi Uncle, i’ve just set up my Waja with approximately 1 degree negative camber
1mm toe out for both front and 1mm toe in for both rear. Not sure is it correct. But i do feel the car to be more pliant on the road.
Yes.
hi sir, nice review on civic 2.0, can you review on lancer gt 2.0 compared to civic 2.0 if got chances ? i would be great if can known more infor and performance of both 2.0 cars
Not sure if I know anybody with such a car and not sure if they would lend me the car.
Many years ago I dragged at a traffic light, driving a Lancer, Vs a FD2. And lost miserably. The Honda is a lot quicker
YS Khong Driving Thank you sit for the infor you provided, it helps me a lot haha
YS Khong Driving Thank you sir I will always support ur video hahaa
great video, can u share the magic alignment numbers with us ?
If fd 2.0 vs inspira or lancer gt in drag which will win?
I did that many years ago. The FD won
Yeah a set of Tein street coil overs will transform the car. Would you mind sharing the magic numbers because I have same car
Toe out front 1 mm each side, toe in rear 1 mm each side, negative camber 2 degree each side.

I have a new myvi , with hilow adjustable . Any magic number for me to set the adjustable ?
We are only talking about alignment, not damping. For fwd, one should toe out the front about 0.6 mm wash side. Rear is not adjustable.
Hi Uncle YS Khong, I am planning to buy the 2011-2012 2.0, buying it and drive for 3 years later on sell again. May I know is it worth to buy ? Because I will be driving this car for work and sometimes bring my family to Ipoh or Penang sometimes or long journey drive. Just wondering will this car tahan ? Thank you just want to hear from your opinion Uncle.
It depends on the car condition. Yesterday I drove a 2008 Mazda Miata - it went very well, and was quite fast because it had good brakes, excellent engine, and good suspension.
A car that is well maintained will last a long fime.
hope to see a lancer genting run uncle!
If I can get one.
What's the magic number on wheel alignment , currently driving a fd2 2.0 as well !
1 degree negative camber all round, toe out 1mm in front, toe in 1mm at the rear
