@@GamerFolklore thank you, Goose! Funny how it’s some of the simpler ideas… it’s not beating battletoads on 2 player or running while beating ninja gaiden.. just have to collect some KONG I guess!
Croctopus Chase 'O' was the one that always eluded me. I know I got it at some point as a child, but later on I just could never remember where exactly was, not until years later
thank you, Nintendo power magazine! For never making me think these letters were hard to find. Their level walk-throughs were very detailed and extremely helpful.
Wow, very nice ranking. I thought immediately of Antics because of the N, but totally forgot about the K and O. Can't wait to see the hardest KONG in 2 and 3.
When I was 5 years old I always got mad cuz I couldn't find most of the KONG letters in various levels. Now that I watched this video I should replay it and finally get them out of the way. Great video my friend.
Very fun and interesting list! Many of these letters certainly are trickier than I realized. I wouldn't have figured out that you had to go through fake walls for some of them, especially in the underwater levels. Letters being able to appear in bonus rooms also adds another layer of mystery. I remember doing the dragon coins in Super Mario World and that having its own share of oddities. I think it would be fun to do the same thing for DKC with its KONG letters. Definitely makes me curious about how that would go in DKC2 and 3 as well. Great video as always, and the way you did the title card with the sound effects was super smooth and clean!
That was an awesome video! 🙂 The KONG letters are like the dragon coins in Super Mario World, you don't need to find them all to get 100% but it's fun to replay every level to get them all.
You DO need the KONG letters to get 101% in DKC 1. Percentage is based on how many levels you have found KONG in and how many hidden bonus rooms you have found.
Hey Red Poppy! Just a heads up, that is not true with the originals on SNES. KONG letters do not add to completion… I just did a video on the hidden bonus rooms, and got 101% on 3 files. It’s just bonus rooms and level completion that add to that number! Thanks for watching!
Great, another DKC Top 10 list ! For the next video, I suggest you "Hardest DK Coins in DKC2", as some of them are well hidden. No wonder, as it was Cranky who actually hid them !
I've been playing this game almost my whole life and consider myself pretty good at it, though I never really worried about finding secrets or bonuses, or collecting everything. Until this month. I decided to 100% the game on Retro Achievements. There are achievements for finding every KONG letter, and the only letter that gave me any hassle was the N in Ice Age Alley. In fact, I think the achievement for collecting every KONG letter in Gorilla Glacier was by far the hardest achievement in the game. Except maybe finishing Manic Mincers with Rambi
@@Packers4Evar12 that says a lot about your exploration, because many of these are completely out of sight and well hidden! I knew of the N in Ice Age Alley from cheesing that level with Expresso in the past. And haha yes it’s so easy to lose Rambi on that stage! I appreciate you watching & commenting, also I see you’re a Packer fan.. the NFC is stacked this year! Best of luck this post season!
@MarMaxGaming also, you're taking into account actually finding the letters as part of their difficulty, while I'm just thinking about actually reaching the letter. If I had to think about the hardest letter to find, I think it would be the G in Orangutan Gang
@@JDPhoenixGaming thank you! For me… its environments, music, and sound effects make it one of my favorite games of all time. But I love the entire trilogy, I could probably argue for any of them, there will be more Top 10s for DKC2 & DKC3!
*Korone voice* "ONG!" I'm not the only one who'd make silly sounds or words when you get an incomplete KONG, right? "K.O.!" "Oh now it's ON" "Just another KOG in the machine..." It is? ...okay...
Honorable mention should go to the G in Torchlight Trouble. I don’t remember how the bonus room is entered, but it is a minigame bonus room, and the G is not its reward. Rather, the G is located on top of one of the tunnels on the sides, and there is a tire to bounce up to it…on the other side. The bonus game itself is the stomp-the-Klaptrap variety with three of the chompers running around, so getting the G is somewhat difficult even when you know where it is.
Nice choice! You can at least bounce on him to reach the G, it’s much easier than using the tire… I think that’s the room where you break the really tall wall at the end. Thank you for watching & commenting!
At least it's not really necessary to collect all KONG Letters in DKC1 to 3. In Returns and Tropical Freeze on the other hand you even unlock secret courses by collecting them all in every course of a world.
shout out to the G letter at the end of the first level of the snow world. where to get it you must do the full barrel challenge and not take the shortcut.
In DKC3, the level Rocket Rush didn't include the letter G in the North American version, so you can never get all letters in that version of the game.
Man that #2 on the list is some clever level design to hide that secret while still telegraphing it subtly.
Glad to see some of your videos popping off. This one was awesome! I beat DKC a few times, but never gotten all the KONGs.

Crazy, I just watched your Bonus Room video earlier today and wished you'd make another DKC top 10! Thanks for reading my mind
This Video is Very useful for the GBA Version of DKC1, where Kong Letters are required for 100% completion of the Game!

After all these years to find out so much I just thought they missed some letters out lol thank you for doing this
Great content man
For a lot of these stages, I was just happy to beat them, nevermind getting the full KONG! 😅
Mid air jumps after a roll or cartwheel aren't really required for most playthroughs, but for some of these letters, they're essential.
You’re gonna do DKC 2 next, right? Right?
Oh the NOSTALGIA
I actually just played DKC for a few minutes testing my console after a recap. Fantastic series to grow up with for sure!

this is a banger video idea. Misty mine better be on here because that secret is silly

It's funny, because there was no need for them to hide the letters this well. It's literally just an extra life, there's no completion percentage.
In DKC2, Parrot Chute Panic would bear at least an acknowledgment for it being impossible to get the KONG letters and bonuses all in one pass.
Great video 👍 DKC was never really my favourite out of the 3 but this is a very nice list.

Absolutely right, Snow Barrel Blast makes you earn it that way! I briefly showed it in the intro when I was saying “secrets… shortcuts….”
Wow I don’t think I’ve ever found that one in Croctopus Chase
