Marina Raskova, Often referred to as "The Soviet Unions Amelia Earhart" is perhaps the most underrated figure of influence in the formation of the The 221st Aviation Corps. While she herself never flew in the 588th "Night Witches", she would instead take command of the 587th Bomber Aviation Regiment. Her actions in life, the inspiration she became and her drive and push in the pre and early war days of the Soviet Union was one of the key contributing factors to the formation of the all woman Aviation Regiment's and to the Night Witches themselves. So today we start our exploration of the 588th with the life and deeds of the woman who made the 221st possible and who's actions inspired the young female pilots of the 588th who would stalk the Wehrmacht in the night.. i wrote one of my final essays for graduation, which made up 30% of my final grade on the night witches & russian female snipers. i got an A, cause i was so interested in the topic & also knew alot of small facts & stuff over videogames and youtube videos. great video btw
Agreed! Your videos are a welcome break from my own gaming sessions, every few hours or so I grab a snack and settle in (hands now free to feed) for a short while before diving back into my game.
Thanks, man, for the series! I’m Russian and it’s great to know that non-Russian people are really interested and touched by one of the stories about our super-heroic (actually, there are no words in the world to fully reflect their heroism) Grandmothers. We owe them our freedom, our lives and should do everything to make them remembered in generations. Please continue your very important work in this context!
That's an amazing piece of history and a great story. I hope you were wearing a dress while flying those missions and narrating this. In tribute you know.
Absolutely loved this ! Nice pacing, good reading voice. It's good to hear you telling stories Magz! Would be nice to see a bit of additional graphics here and there. For example: when taking about the flight a map showing an estimated flight path (as close as you can do it).
First of all, I love this video. Please make more like it. Second of all, I wonder how the whole crew survived. Surely those massive, brass balls had some strain on the aircraft frame during the emergency landing. Let alone the miracle that they didn't make Marina's chute fail that whole way down.
So Magz, can you make videos about WWII aces and their tactics? Like Erich Hartmann (352 kills) and his close-in manuver Like Emil Lang with his 18 kills a day Like Hans J. Marseille with his 17 kills deflection shoot Or other famous pilot Like Nowotny, Galland etc...
See THIS is the kind of stuff that BFV needed to emphasize, not cyborg asians in Europe. These kinds of stories truly show why they were called the greatest generation..
@@Angel24Marin There were some dadaist artists in the 1920s that - inspired, if you want, by the many war invalids wearing prostheses - created art featuring human-machine-hybrids, way before the terminology of "cyborgs" existed. And if you see the (sometimes very elaborate) prostheses as machines... You could say, yes, they were cyborgs. I dunno how far they push that in BFV, though...
Wait, you're running most of your stuff on a 1070? NANI?! I thought you had an SLI 1080 set up? But... how does that even do StarCitizen? I am confuse.
Keep in mind this was the 1930's, There was no radar, no guidance systems, Maps with visual and stellar navigation (like old sailing ships) was the only form of navigation and the flight headed into a part of Russia that even today is mostly wild with very low population in a prototype aircraft of which only four were ever built. Emergency landings at that period especially into such unknowns were very common.
Where are all the cry babies who rant and rave that women didn't fight in the war and so therefore should not be represented in films and other media that are about those who took part in the war? (Queue someone saying that people don't actually complain about that as if we havnt all seen them a million times anytime a woman shows up in a film or video game trailer)
why do you think it neccessary to bring negativity and divisiveness into a comment section that appreciates and respects the deeds of the female pilots this video series is about? neither the time, nor the place.
Yep, I'm Australian. It's funny, When an Aussie doesn't perfectly pronounce a German or Russian word people complain. But you don't see Aussies complaining when everyone including English speaking nations manage to screw up the pronunciation of almost every town and city in the country.
Why are russian women such bad asses?Lol. No seriously do we know what kind of aircraft she flew? Was she just a navigator or did she fly fighters as well. If she did fly fighters, do we know if she got any air to air kills?
@@matheusgclassen No, James is quite correct. As per the video description she was to become the commanding officer of the 587th Day bomber regiment flying a Pe-2. Her relationship with the 588th Night Witches was one of formation, without her it's possible the 588th would never have existed.
I did the best I can but sadly the Australian accent and way of speaking doesn't really lend itself to the easy pronunciation of Russian, or German for that matter.

Isn't it Lydia Litvyak at 12:26?
These little histories are fun! Keep 'em coming!
It's pleasure for me to say, how i appreciate your work! Thank you from Russian grandchildren of heroes of that terrible war!

More of this please. Good work mate! Really enjoyed watching this video 👍
Great video Magz! I would love more of this :-D
Eu amo a história dessas mulheres incríveis. E o melhor, é saber que algumas delas estão vivas até hoje.
