fancy leaving a 9 year old boy and baby in the house alone whilst you go down the pub. People will say times have changed but, I don't think that would have been acceptable to most parents in the 80s
I agree about the baby bit, but I did used to be left alone at home from the age of about 8 onwards and I think that was okay. That was in the late 80s.
I was left at home from the age of about 9 or 10 for maybe 30 minutes. I was a sensible kid who my mum knew wouldn't answer the door or cause a fire. And my mum wasn't neglectful. Times have changed. We're all far more scared now, when ironically it was probably more dangerous then.

There were a few twists in the tail of the Christopher Laverack case. His uncle (Melvyn Read) had been sexually abusing him (and a number of other local boys) for some time and murdered him - but police believe he likely wasn't acting alone. It later transpired that "Steve" who was supposed to be looking after Christopher was convicted for sexually abusing two young girls. It's believed that the whole thing may have been a set up between Steve and the uncle. People in the pub that night noted how Steve was acting strangely, like he was trying very hard to be noticed. Police believe that both he and the uncle may have been part of a local paedophile ring. Read had been jailed in 2003 for the historic abuse of other local boys and died in jail in 2008 before the evidence was found to charge him for Christopher's murder.

Drug underground crimes and murders are *especially* hard to crack.
I hope Steven was haunted by his irresponsible decision to leave a literal child alone at night with a baby. Poor Christopher
Unfortunately there were at least 2 paedophiles in the family, Steve being one and an uncle who was sexually abusing Christopher. It was him that raped and murdered Christopher. Steve was said to be acting strangely at the pub that night, making sure he was noticed by other pubgoers. Suggesting he wanted an airtight alibi and also had knowledge the uncle had arranged to pay a visit while he was out...
Pencil and paper(?!) … So sayeth St. Nick of Ross.
20.05. He has a tattoo on his face. I am in no way suggesting that tattoos make you a criminal! That said having a tattoo on your face in the 80s would have attracted attention none of it good.
It was his uncle who killed that poor boy,he died in prison a few years ago
I live about 5 minutes walk from The Crown on Marfleet lane
I'm curious why you felt the need to share that with us. Do you want a medal? Or was it just attention seeking?

Film 84 must have been good after,
Blade runner was probably featured.
👍🏻Barry Norman was so spot on.
Blade Runner came out in 1982. Went to see it aged 14
Apparently the half sisters boyfriend was in on the death too, he was also a pedo, poor kid..very sad little life he had, Sue saying he was a happy child 😐
😔
Fancy leaving a 9 year old and a baby home along? Asking for abduction and being murdered.
it was so different back then..children were just left. My dad worked nights and left all four of us alone all night.
Do you know anyone who says mustoosh
It's mustosh and most working class people back then (in London and the South East anyway) did. Not so common now but some people still do.
I know plenty of people who speak like John Bly if that helps …
