@@F-Duck1btw American Congress was investigating if FOM excluding an American team was some sort of anti trust infringement...fearing a billion dollar law suit claim FOM "changed their mind" and let in Cadillac under the condition that they severed ties with andretti....
I heard that a deal with Herta was basically already done, they also wanted someone with experience to guide them, so maybe Daniel or Valtteri (I'm delusional for my Aussies)
I think they can also go with Daniel Riccardo as he is the most famous F1 driver in USA and is also considered a honourary American. Having Daniel gives him a last chance in the sport and also helps Cadilac in marketing and gaining quick popularity and support plus sponsorships ofcourse. Just a thought.
Listing all these people but no Pourchaire mention is nasty work. Idk what he did to piss off the F1 gods but damn he’s literally a young and recent F2 champ. Poor guy 😭
"Palou is an example of slow and steady wins the race." Palou at Laguna Seca 2022: nearly two seconds faster than the next fastest driver on the harder compound.
It wasn't Domenicali denying Andretti's entry, it was Greg Maffei that swore he would have never allowed Andretti to get into F1. He resigned - or maybe he was fired? - few days ago and now, magically, Cadillac is allowed to join.
If they want to run the risk of two "rookies," Herta and O'Ward. If not, then one of them with Perez, and the other as reserve. And I would probably figure out some escape clauses if they want to get rid of Checo early.
Ricciardo should be the obvious pick for the first seat. Herta for the second one, but Dan brings development experience, charisma, sponsorship dollars and mainly lives in the USA and is still fast. A no brainer.
I think there is a chance it'll be Gasly/Ocon, if one of their teams falls off a cliff and they see no real progress with the 2026 car mid-2025, either of them could make a quick switch (I know they are both in "multi year" contracts, but who knows what that means). Both of them would bring a perfect combination of experience, skill and relative youth
Colton and Valterri, America loves Valterri and they’re going to need someone with experience they’ll low ball him too I bet since there’s no other way he’ll get back on the grid
I don't think Herta deserves the ride honestly. He's fast, but just can't seem to keep himself on the track. If he's with them, I'll still be happy though
Alex Palou would be a great fit for the second seat in the new Cadillac team. His age should not be a factor at all. Take a look at Damon Hill. He started in 1992 at 31 years old and was competitive straight away. Of course going on to win the 96 F1 driver's title too.
Herta won't get the seat. The super license points will stop him. I think Ricciardo has a better shot than he does, as unlikely as that is. I think it will be Bottas and Palou, for the experience and Indy market draw, respectively.
i think pato o'ward should get the other seat, again herta and o'ward as two rookies would be risky, but like you say pato is a great driver, fast, with some FP1 experience already compared to some other options, and it's even a great deal in the sponsor/market side, i think he should seriously be considered for 2026
I feel like it would take a miracle for danny ric to get back in, unless a lot of these new rookies are like INSANELY slow he's already had his second chance and I feel like his f1 time is up
You forgot to mention Kyle Larson... the man is on record for claiming he's better than Max Verstappen. Now, here's your chance, Kyle. Nothing screams "US team" louder than two American drivers, Cadillac has little to lose in the first few seasons and don't you Muricans LOVE yourself some nice WWE-style rivalry? Sure, Kyle will be 34 by then but hey, compared to other geriatrics on the grid he'll still be a "spring chicken". 😂 (Rumour has it is, McLaren will put Kyle Larson into their car for the post-season test in Abu Dhabi... Kyle needs all the Super License points he can get.)
Perez is a Hulkenburg who got promoted to a place where he can never shine. He is an excellent midfield driver and a known quantity. He's also worked for half the grid already
I'm just hoping that they don't hire drivers that have similar profiles, there needs to be diversity within the talent in the team if they are actually serious on making progress, especially in their first year. They better choose a competent Team Principle as well
NGL it would be really funny if for the first American F1 Team in decades to have both Perez and O'Ward, gringos always give the hard work to the latinos.
Mark my words, it will be Herta and O'ward driving the Cadillacs. Like you said, Pato brings in a lot of money, both through Mexican investments and marketability, you know how much this new age of F1 fans love a charismatic nice guy driving a racecar. Plus the mexican people will always support him no matter his performance so the money will always be there, just look at checo's goofy ass. Zach brown will vouch and push for him to get that seat, he's said before that all he needed to do to be in talks for a formula 1 seat in his Mclarens was to win a championship but unfortunately his car is shit but still manages to drag it to victories and podiums if it doesnt blow up before the checkered. And lastly, he's fast as fuck.
Herta is actually a bit of a strange one for me. He is so, so quick and he is usually one of the top IndyCar drivers. This year was probably his best, but his previous couple of seasons weren't great. Granted, Andretti weren't great either, but Colton didn't help himself at times. Palou is brilliant, he's effectively a younger version of Scott Dixon, super super consistent. O'Ward is brilliant but sometimes frustrating to watch. But he's one of my favourite drivers all the same. I'd love to see him have a crack at F1 but at the same time, please don't go to Cadillac Pato, stay with McLaren!!! I first heard of Zilisch through his NASCAR exploits this year. Seems pretty good if his win at Watkins Glen is anything to go by. Drugovich might have a way in through IMSA, but I feel like if he was going to be in F1, he would already be there. Similar case to Théo Pourchaire, sadly. Colapinto's done his prospects very little harm during his spell so far, although the big crashes he's had recently have perhaps dented his stock a bit. Tsunoda would be a good option I think. Plenty of experience in his locker. Checo would be a seriously good option... if he isn't washed. But is he washed, or is it just that he's basically incompatible with the Red Bull? I suspect it's largely the latter, and a move away would probably be good for him. Lindblad is a very interesting option. I'm curious as to how he'll do in F2 next year. But he's embedded in the Red Bull program. All very interesting options but I think there could be some others. K-Mag and Bottas would both be decent options in terms of experience for instance, I reckon. Magnussen raced with Caddy in IMSA during his year out of F1 in 2021 so he is known to them, and Bottas has said he's interested in the drive.
