The last 20 minutes of this is like the movie trope where the protagonist is caught between two sides, chooses the wrong side, switches to the right one in the nick of time, and then the one he saves sacrifices himself for the protagonist. Classic.

Almost 2 hours, Almost New Players, new map ( Too me), Com game, T90 Cursing with and without Bleeps, Drug Testing, CAPSLOCK ON, Old Man 90. I. Am. SOLD! This game Had almost everything!
On the topic of the scenario editor, I used to try to recreate the things I'd see in the campaigns. I never figured out how to destroy those bridges, but I found a few tricks on my own, like how to place a door over a tile of water so ships could pass. I also made a scenario based on my hometown and had gangs that kept spawning units of their own and stuff.
T90- the mount and blade problem you were talking about is because it's an "active world". Basically non commander characters can change location every new day and commander characters roam the world so are always on the move, you have to keep asking around for move "recent" intell.
The "speed" is a Capture Age issue on big games; sometimes it lags on Capture Age and CA slows down. It is not felt by the players and has nothing to do with Scenario or Lobby Settings. Had it happen to me multiple times when casting Community Games and it also happened during King of the Hippo 9 to Nili. As far as my experience goes, i think it has something to do with too many projectiles being shot at the same time and having to be processed.
Lol I can relate to those custom maps. I did one where I built an entire city super elegant with all buildings, all Briton Heroes, with a long bridge as chokepoint surrounded by bombard towers. Then I assiged specific heroes for the remaining 7 players, like Wallace for the celts. This was fun until the ugly Lag. This was back in late 2000s I think
Dude I grew up playing this game back in the early 2000's. I would hazard to say this was my first video game I ever played. Eventually I got a copy of Age of Mythology and I played that game like a religion for years, doing the very same thing you described with the AI and choke points on bridges and canyons. So many fun memories building my own maps and playing with AI.
It's funny you talk about Mount and Blade like that. I think what you're referencing is where you need to talk to a lord. But in Mount and Blade the lords move around the map (since they go to feasts, join armies, defeat nearby enemies, etc.). So you're meant to get close to the destination and check where they are again and then catch up to then. Usually they stick nearby-ish (unless they are the king or a part of an army). It's definitely annoying, but it's just how the game works.
~5k hours between both M&B games here. I couldn't relate more to his rant. :P The issue gets pretty bad in Warband when they're defeated in battle. If I'm not mistaken, lords who aren't captured just go invisible/inactive until they've replenished enough troops. That can take up to weeks, during which no lord will be able to tell you their location.
T90 talking about mount and blade made my day, co-op battle/captain co-op in fire and sword was a staple of my childhood and the warband campaign mode is fantastic.
As someone who has their caps lock as a hotkey...can confirm, whenever I want to send a message to someone: it's ALWAYS on. Doesn't seem to matter it should be an equal 50/50 chance of being on or off. It just somehow always seems to perfectly line up with being on whenever I go to type a message. 😅😢
This looks to have taken inspiration from the OG Starcraft 1 map, Fastest Possible Map. Love to see creators making fun new custom maps for the community
There was so much to love about this: great map; panic switch fish-trap; Blue's fast economy and military; Yellow's eagerness and impatience to fight; Magenta(Purple)'s resilience and tenacity; Cyan (Teal)'s persistence and success at diplomacy - also his code of honour in giving Green the victory; Green's last minute return to the alliance and friendship with Cyan - had me in a state of suspense; T90's comical and entertaining commentary throughout the scenario! Thanks to all the other players as well!
Purchasable panic switches, also kills your own units (but not buildings) maybe? So you have to hide your eco in castles or TCs or whatnot, giving the attacker a heads-up and potential to cause panicked retreats?
I used to make custom scenarios where I'd have a giant, well fortified sim city tier base, with tons of unique units and hero units - then put the 7 AIs against me, give them unlimited res and post imp and see how long I could survive.
6 Killswitch ideas: Let it take up pop space. Make it a mobile wonder. Having it doesn't allow you to ally. Make it tax 10% of all your income. Can it be build. Can it be converted.
This game was soooooooo good man. Blue and Red were both beasts destined to clash. Unfortunate that Red left but perhaps that helped in making things more interesting. We saw Purple the underdog almost coming back to take revenge for the early bullying, but granted, wasn't in a position to go against the players that saved him, dude was lucky to almost come back a second time when the tables turned for Teal. And finally, all the diplo games and Gray's king wanting to take the arms along with his knights. Simply epic. Rip Orange lol.
Yes, remember how blue and yellow split purples' relics ahead of time? It was perculiar to watch him expand and grow after they both had become history. 11
tracking down lords and kings are pretty easy in mount and blade just have to stop at places where you can ask where people are along the way and you can also find their tracks to follow as well.
T90 going '' i did that way more than i'd like to admit'.... admits it just about every other game XDXD. btw. love the vids man, makes doing chores around the house much more pleasant
13:45 lmaoooooo yup i know the feeling, if you play M&B long enough you start to catch on the where lords are moving based on current world events, you can also talk to people around the world for intel on wars and what not to make it easier. But yeah it was definitely annoying to chase down lords while learning the game 😂😂😂😂
My first play through of mount and blade was similiar. I stopped looking for specific wanderers and just use whoever I do find in the short term and eventually replace them with family member, who are superior anyway if you create them correctly.
T90 talking about tower defense in AOE2 I used to build wall mazes in scenarios past castles and towers and the AI would march through one unit at a time past the gauntlet because the AI saw an unimpeded path to my base.
Every diplo game goes to show how ever IRL diplo goes through. Everyone is just sticking to the team with the most players, not even going 2v2, going after the one, one of the strong ones decide... hahaha!
I think the word you were searching for to describe (NaCl)y AF was "integrity" - integrity can be explain as "the state of being whole and undivided". Not that it matters four months later, but maybe it'll help you in the even further future :D
It was so frustrating watching purple. The signs were right there. He knew green would betray, he knew why he was following him. Never should have advanced his force, or let them get close. I’m so irritated by it because he had a chance. 😂
I've thought about a bridge-building mechanic before and it could actually be sweet. They could build 1/2 as a fast as walls and have half the HP. Or there could be a university tech that would unlock the building for villagers, or a dock tech which would allow you to build link-able barge/raft units, etc. It wouldn't have to devolve into the cheesy, if well-designed.
I think an interesting twist to this map would be to set it so that rather than just allowing a wonder and disabling stone walls and gates, you disable all buildings except the wonder. Buildings on the map can continue to function, but no new buildings can be built. This would basically force everyone to build a wonder as soon as you can, and it would mean that losing production buildings permanently impairs your ability to attack - bringing the game to a close earlier and creating a situation requiring unique tactics.
Been playing gta online last 3 months, they use caps as a hotkey. First game i played with that as a default. Also my guess is the speed wasnt locked? I typically play solo in skirmish matches but sometimes with buddies, i swear you could leave speed unlocked and toggle it in game.
So, in mount and blade, look in your journal. The person's name will be blue and clicking should link you to their "profile?" It tells you what they're doing and potentially where. Otherwise if you ask around their faction they will tell you where the person's run of to.
Teal: "I would rather die than fight you, brother." Grey: "I will give you one last chance to befriend me, or else." Who you think Green is going to ally
When the speed drops, the issue is in the AoE 2 game engine. The engine was not build for Epic RTS. There is shit ton of RTS-games (e.g. the old Supreme Commander) which have thousands of units moving and it doesn't cause any performance issues. So I wouldn't necessary complain the modern 2024 PC for the thing that the AoE 2 DE doesn't run when the pop cap is over 200.
This is a very pretty map, but while symmetry is great for aesthetics I think it actually works against this type of game mode. A lot of the excitement and drama of a skirmish like this is fueled by the subtle imbalances, trade/negotiation to work around them and positioning and terrain issues and a perfectly symmetrical map with only 3 tight access points, 2 of which do not become accessible until an age/player's choice (deleting the palisade) removes a lot of potential shenanigans from the mix, especially early game snipes and backstabs. This kind of map is better suited for deathmatches/competitive/straightforward gameplay imo.
I'm a bit late to the party but I feel being able to buy a panic switch only benefits people who know how to boom better and would be better off regardless. Someone who isn't "as good", wouldn't have the resources to buy it because they didn't boom well enough or are already getting attacked and can't afford it due to that.
Necro post but alot of it is a real equation of communication in the midevil ages where you need to ask around for the npcs locations, the real love of the game is making your own kingdom tho and surviving
