    This is a level of artistry and craftsmanship I have not seen in this genre of scale modeling. I like the format you use to showcase your builds too. Although I would love to hear your insights while you work I can understand that watching someone mask a one inch square area for an hour might not go over to well. Thank you for sharing this with the world! This is chicken soup for my nerdy soul!

    Nice! I just painted my models and glued it together. I have not assembled my Enterprise E model yet but you give some ideas, although not sure if Im going to bother outfitting with LEDs. My Enterprise D model saucer section pin broke so the saucer and secondary hull no longer fit together, have to fix that. My Klingon bird of prey has a broken wing, have to fix that. My Voyagers movable nacelle pylons sometimes dont stay up. Only model I have thats not broken in some way is DS9 but thats bc it hangs from the ceiling out of harms way. I never put LEDs in my ships as when I made them way back I dont think anyone was doing that, but I just cluld not be bothered to go to that effort. But yours look great. I think you went through more masking tape for that model than when I painted my house, lol.
    So when do you start filming your own movies with your super detailed starship?

    • @LightsNcrafts
      @LightsNcrafts  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks DK!
      I also started building ships without lights. But they do add so much to the realism!
      Regarding your Enterprise D, you can display it in seperate sections; secondary hull, primary hull, and captain's yacht.
      I have two of these and will build one like that.
      I have no experience nor the equipment necessary for filming my models, so movie making is out of my plans for now lol

    • @LightsNcrafts
      @LightsNcrafts  6 лет назад

      I used drill bits slightly smaller than the molded windows. Then I used and X-acto knife to clean them.
      I think 1/16 is a little too big.

    Great video! How hard was it to get the lights set up? I'm new to modeling and want to set up lights like you did, but I was curious how difficult it would be for a noob like me. Also what colors did you use for the primer, base and ship colors? And lastly where did you go to find the template for the aztec designs?

    • @LightsNcrafts
      @LightsNcrafts  5 лет назад

      Thanks J B!
      It wasn't too hard to set up all the lights. But you do need some experience in soldering. You can find different circuits on the internet. For the primer, I used the one from Krylon. The base color is a mix of 2 part Flat White and 1 part Royal Light Grey from Tamiya. For the darker tones I used some darker greys like Neutral Grey and German Grey also from Tamiya. I did the aztecs myself by cutting tiny rectangles from masking tape and placing them accordingly.

    • @LightsNcrafts
      @LightsNcrafts  2 года назад

      I used a cap from a Tamiya paint jar. Drilled a hole smaller than the rod's outside DIA, but big enough to pass the wires through. And I glued it to the underside of the base cover with hot glue.

  • @ssj5toast
    @ssj5toast 7 лет назад +1

    hey, when painting the kit, how does the spray not go through the windows and paint over the LED inside the model?

    • @LightsNcrafts
      @LightsNcrafts  7 лет назад

      Since the windows are so small, there's practically no paint that gets inside the model. Besides, the LEDs aren't that close to the windows, so they don't get paint on them.

It takes some time to make it square and without any curves on the side. Just wondering if you used a better way. Nice job Ill be using this video for technique and reference as I build my own.

    • @LightsNcrafts
      @LightsNcrafts  8 лет назад +2

      I drilled out the windows exactly as you described it. There's no "magical" way. Except that the windows aren't square! They are oval!
      After cutting them out, I used the same #11 blade to clean them as much as I could, round them of, and then I used Tamiya thin cement to remove any residue left behind. The cement melts those tiny residues away.
      Hope the video helps you out! :)
