      They don't convince me. I've used SSDs and HDDs and I prefer HDDs. The size to price is so much better with HDDs that I don't care about lower performance. My computer boots up and opens apps and files fast enough for me. I'll stick with my HDDs.

      @@emilysweets4048 In general this is not a choice that has to be made. You can buy a $20-25$ 120 GB SSD and have a huge HDD as well. It will speed up the system incredibly and stay in the cheapest of budgets.

      @@emilysweets4048 seriously, get a cheap 120/250 GB SSD for just the operating system and other stuff like browsers, office, etc. The difference is literally night and day, and you can still have a 1/2 TB HDD for mass storage of large files. I cannot stress the difference enough, Windows is super snappy and everything opens in an instant. I have a 120 GB cheapo kingston SSD with windows and a 2 TB HDD for all my games. I could never go back to using my OS via HDD.

    I have bought several of these drives in the 120GB and 250GB flavor for budget builds, they are great drives for the price and I haven’t had one fail yet. Not the fastest, but price to performance I’ve found them very good overall. I just bought another that’s going in a build with an i5 3570 that I plan to donate.

    I love how Tech Deals gives a genuine balanced review of the products. A lot of reviews fail to truly factor in value as an element in their review, which simply is not realistic. If a product is slightly better, but notably more expensive, then it's not always the best choice for consumers.

    I love seeing those prices for 1TB SSDs. Wasn't that long ago that 1TB SSDs were well over $200. Its nice seeing higher capacity drives finally reaching more affordable levels. Four years ago I was paying over $300 to get a used 500GB 840 Evo and I thought that was a good deal at the time. For under half the price you can now buy a 1TB SSD that is faster than my SSD.
    About reliability: In Feb I will have been using that drive as my boot and primary storage drive for five years and it still works perfectly fine. Not sure exactly how much I've written on it at that time, but the drive is usually pretty full until I get around to deleting stuff or moving things to my backup drive so it is has been pretty well used in that time.

    One of the few areas you and I can agree to disagree is on the concept of a $1500 build deserves a better ssd than a $1000 build. I’m a fan of lowest price for the requirements I have getting met (one of which is always good quality). But honestly, if it is the right drive for my $1000 build, unless my needs change, it is the right drive for my $1500 build. Great vid, good perspective on what the numbers really mean, and yes, if I can save $17 or more on everything I am buying for my build, that adds up nicely, so I will...

    Just thought I'd post this, even though it's a year after this video first aired. Avoid the Adata SU650 drives like the plague! I purchased one after viewing this video, thought it would be a good secondary SSD to hold my Users folder data, as my original boot SSD was completely full. I've now had to return this drive 3 times under warranty, due to bad sectors. Obviously I'm not blaming TD for this, they had no way of knowing the reliability of this. Adata does honor the warranty without question, so I have no complaints about that, but there is some kind of quality control issue with this generation of their drives. I had a previous generation smaller Adata SSD that is completely bulletproof, has been running for 3 years without fail.

    don't let that benchmark fool you, ssds like su800 have 40GB area in SLC mode (1bit per cell) and writes land initially in that area. Benchmarks will just check that performance. Once you copy something larger, like 100GB, speed will drop to 80MB/sec sequential. 4k speeds will be much worse. So drive will slow down a lot.
    The SU650 will be much worse, the SLC area smaller, no DDR memory, so for larger writes, will slow even more.

    I'm not saying the SU650 is a bad drive. I'm not saying they all fail, but My SU650 died after SIX months of service yesterday. It had very low writes. It is completely dead. Can't see it, can't format it, can't check disk, can't anything. It is literally a paperweight. I was using my PC, suddenly nothing would open and windows was acting weird. I restart. "No operating system detected". Complete death. Thankfully I'm a giant nerd and I had another SSD that I could swap in and the day was saved, but still... 6 months? There was no power surge. I have a surge protector in my breaker box and the PC is connected to a good quality surge protector.

Of course most of my systems are fairly ancient, some are still running SATA II so they can't even begin to max out the speed even the cheapest SSD can actually do. But I'm more concerned with having no data loss and so far that hasn't been a problem, and I still get a huge speed boost even using SATA II.

    It's simple really, get a Samsung 500GB for your OS and whatever else you want to fit on there. If you need any more locally throw in a cheap ADATA 1TB and you're set. Added bonus is silent operation. All my other large data storage is centralised on my NAS. I think thanks to NVMe large sata ssd's have come down a lot in price lately to the point where there's litterally no excuse to still run a mechanical harddrive in your PC unless you need to store very large amounts of data locally.

    You should do a video on the Inland Professional drives. Not only is the 480GB Inland $4 cheaper currently but it has a higher TBW rating at 340.

    I've been told defragmenting SSD is not required so why I got substantial performance boost after copying game files on external memory, deleting it from SSD, defragmenting (I used Defraggler software) and writing game data back to this SSD? 20+ FPS and faster loading textures.
    Cheers.

  • @TheRealFrankWizza

    Older SSDs have a substantially longer lifespan than these newer cheap ones. That's why you have 8 year old drives on your shelf that work. Also, as a boot drive, don't forget about the page file that is constantly writing to the drive. This will greatly decrease the lifespan.

    From my perspective I use these strictly for boot drives and do not trust SSDs for data storage. I don't see any value or merit in spending that much more for a Samsung drive when the Adata is still using Samsung chips(they ARE the supplier of chips after all) and is a fraction of the cost.
    That said I've been using an Adata U800 in my laptop for a few months and it's solid. Boot times are around 20 seconds from cold boot. I'm about to buy another for my desktop to replace the spinner as a boot device.

    I'm not exactly sure where to put this sort of question, since I don't spend time on message boards, and the people I know on Facebook and in real life aren't knowledgeable enough, to help me with this issue. I'm asking here, because the comments section on the videos for this channel seem like a calm place, where people would know what they're talking about.
    My current laptop is the 2017 model of the Dell 15 7000 gaming series. It's got single channel 8gb ddr4 (2400mhz) , and a 256gb m.2 ssd, as the storage. The I5 7300 is 2.5ghz, which is more than enough, for what I need it for. I know that there's a port, for a full size hard drive, and an open second slot, for ram. But, I'm apprehensive, about doing this, and I'm not sure where to do proper research.
    The thing is that I'm looking to upgrade this thing, at a reasonable price point. (Preferably under 250 dollars.) But, I only know enough to know that I don't know enough. So, for upgrading my laptop, would I be looking at something like the 500gb-1tb version of one of the SSDs in the description of this video, and a second 8gb stick of ram? And, if so, does brand matter, for the ram, or is it just the clock speed that matters?
    Also, is it possible to upgrade to an i7, and would it be worthwhile, to do so? Lastly, this thing has a 1050ti in it. I'm assuming that a laptop's gpu isn't upgradable, right?
    To anyone who takes the time to help me out, thank you, in advance, for your time. I really do want to upgrade my laptop, but I'm actually quite worried, about the possibility of screwing it up.

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  6 лет назад

      You really can't upgrade that, beyond adding RAM or a SSD. You're better off selling it and buying what you really want.

    • @CaitiffFTW
      @CaitiffFTW 6 лет назад

      @@TechDeals Well, money is really tight, so this is as good as I can afford. Apart from the issues with wanting to upgrade the storage amd ram, I'm okay with everything else. The parts about the cpu amd GPU were curiosity, more than anything else.
      But, having watched this video, I'll probably pick up this ssd, if it's on a Black Friday sale. Is there a particular brand of ram that you would recommend, or should i just grab any DDR4 ram, that i can get, at a fairly low price?

    Noticed ssd prices have dropped significantly. my 850 pro 256gb was 250 eur... equivalent storage amount could be had for like 50-60 eur now... thats in 5 years 5x fold decrease in price. Amazing. Gonna look to get a 1tb ssd, m.2 type and use it as main media drive so hdds don't have to spin up and down so often :D

    I figure the performance difference between these drives is negligible

    I agree :) but untill each contry can have "Cheaper" ssd's it's not an option for some, i've had a minimum wage job for 2 years and i needed more space, so i bought the Firecuda SSHD and i like it harddrive wise because of the SSD caching, and untill at least 1tb ssd's is cheaper or i get better pay i'd have to stick to that drive :)

    The SU650 does not have DRAM. Whereas the Samsung SSD does have DRAM. This makes a difference in performance and the SSD will cost more because of that. We can't expect the SSD with DRAM to cost the same as the product without DRAM. If you need the added performance, go with a product that has DRAM. Buy the DRAM-less SSD if you want to upgrade and older computer that you don't use on a regular basis, or if you need one as a secondary storage device, or if you intend to assemble your own external storage device. Then the extra cost of the DRAM really isn't warranted. That being said, always go with a company that has a good or excellent track record for quality, reliability, warranty and customer service. New products with DRAM for example: Samsung Evo, Crucial MX500 and WD Blue (or the equivalent Sandisk model, since WD owns Sandisk now).

    The only Adata I would not avoid using would be the SU800 2.5inch, and only if it's a significantly better price than the 860 Evo. I wouldn't touch any of the other Adata drives, I have seen way too many of the rest of 'em fail (2.5 and m.2). The SU800 is the only one I've seen not have more failures than the other "big" brands.

    I am a customer from Indonesia. I bought Adata SU800 1tb on 18 June 2021, use for several weeks suddenly can not boot and SSD not readable even still recognize by BIOS. I claimed to Adata Indonesia Distributor and already waiting for 3.5 months. And the answer that this product is discontinued and I must replace with another type. But my SSD was subject to price depreciation even though because of their long process but I have to bear the depreciation and I must pay more for the new type with the same 1tb size and cannot refund. This is the worst after sales ever.
    Stil want to use ADATA product ??? please reconsider.
