The story of Patrice Lumumba brings tears to my eyes each time I think about it. I can understand that the West didn't want him for fears he would succumb to communism, but what did he do to his own people? Thanks @Bisi for a visually compelling story.
It's not about "succumbing to communism" either, even tho that shouldn't be looked as something bad. But rather, it's bcuz Lumumba challenged the West's Neo-colonial interests in Africa
This was a very well put together film.Long live the memory of a true Congolese leader. Long live the memory of Patrice Lumumba. And for the other tyrants like Mobutu Sese Seko and Tshombe you both sold your people out for a dollar and power.True Narcissism.
Thank you so much for this eye opening video. As a Congolese who has not grown up in DRC and doesn't know much about its History, I find this video incredibly helpful and informative. This is beyond greatness!
Patrice Lumumba was an African HERO,he won the elections free and fare.Mighty and his children died in a pathetic conditions, cause the cold war was over, therefore the USA,Belgiums and the UN were not interested anymore with Mabuto, that's karma their wealth didn't support them.Shame to the Belgians with so much cruelty. History reminds us of Hitler and the genocide, why no one talks about the Congolese people?Intact they should make a movie how the unhuman colonies treated Africans.
I’m beginning to think nature is a scam because God has not done anything to avenge the African blood! 🩸 Congo is suffering from these old oppressors still! They have no regrets for what they did and still do to the African! Till when will God allow so much suffering against one people? All our good ones were cruelly murdered! Those in the motherland and them that were in the diaspora! Is God alive?
Not Congolese here but the pain in my chest and difficulty swallowing own saliva in light of the things I learn about him and the general African political arena... its just sad.
Very interesting, it fills in gaps (big!) ones. Educational, these series of early African leaders, politicians and how the mercenaries were used by the colonial powers as well as some of the African countries leaders or would be leaders. It’s no surprise so many countries across Africa, Asia and Central and South America are in such bad economic and social conditions. I also like learning on a deeper level about the relationships between these countries. It really makes you think about events that triggered so much violence. Learning more about the Soviet Unions and Cubas role is something I want to know about.
It baffles me how people could commit so much evil under the sun. Do they not know they will have to answer to a Holy God one day for what they have done.
@@AndHemademe a simple google search will give the correct answer. I think we can all contribute to our learnings by providing more fleshed out opinion as opposed to one liners which as it turns out, is not accurate.
This independence was too premature for our ancestors and so by driving away the Belgians Lumumba destroyed the very same fabric of our Congolese nation and fall victim of his own actions. The speech, the support for an army that was killing, raping and pillaging from the whites, the appointment of Mobutu and so on. In less than 5 years Lumumba was not ready enough to run that big country and cater for different interests. The Belgians couldn't trust an army that was killing them to protect them and so was the massive exodus of the Belgians. When one white family returned to Belgians 3 black families became jobless. Now do the math.
Let's not forget that Lumumba was more than ready to lie with communists. It's safe to assume that the history of DR Congo would've been much bloodier had he assumed power. People love to idolize people like Che, and like Lumumba, without fully understanding what they were ready to do in the name of their ideology. There are no good guys or bad guys in history, only those who make it and those who don't, and the road there is always covered with blood. How do they say in the Congo? -If you sit on the bank of the Congo river long enough, you'll eventually see the body of your enemy floating by.

Patrice Lumumba... One of the bright stars who fought against oppression. Such an inspiration.

It’s one of the saddest story I heard. RIP. May your enemies receive the same punishment that was melted to you.
Lumumba should be apart of every black persons go to for study. It’s essential learning for any black person or African.
Oh yeah but our puppets of leaders will not see to it!
Damn rest in peace Lumumba as a Nigerian I respect every leader who attempted to stand against the west
One of the most heinous and evil crimes I’ve heard happen to a political activist. It’s the reason why I studied Lumumba.
Me too lol

Betrayed by his own people 😢
Rip man
People don't just "Betray", you should also consider those who intervene and corrupt a movement, it's not just clean cut betrayal.
So sad😢😢😢😢

Everywhere French steps their feet there in Africa, they left horror
Historical fact check: Ghana did not become the first republic of black Africa. There were Ethiopia and Liberia existing already, long before that.
Ethiopia was a monarchy during the 50s and not a republic
@djblackjackwannabedeji1194 still wrong. And Liberia?
And Ethiopia was never colonized. It would have been a colony of Italy on a couple of occasions, but they failed miserably.

@ Bisi. You are narrating this story as a westerner. Not as a pro African person.
If he could resist the homicide in Kasai he might have a chance to be in power

This is spectacular... indepth and the real story.. Conspiracy to deny Congo real independence.. shame on the imperialists and greedy capitalists.
The Original Sin of the Congo 🇨🇩 the assassination P.E Lumumba

I do
Astoundingly even-handed narrative that does not shield the fact that the guy was bat-shit crazy in the end. Not a saint, definitely.
Well done
