Great list. Those old Japanese inline 4's can't be beat for longevity. You can go older and cheaper yet and still have a fast reliable ride. Two years with my '88 Katana 1100 and every thing I've spent on it this far (other than gas and insurance) original price included amounts to about $3,500.00 CDN. That's pretty cheap riding considering at that age I can probably resell the bike for at least what I paid for it.

Luggage is no problem. I use rollbag and a textile saddlebag combo. I carry about 75kg photo equipment and some clothes and other stuff. It would be 100kg on the back. I ride solo. But the pillion should have a solid bottom and grip. The backseat. It isn’t the most comfy option.

I've been watching your channel for a few days and have learned so much already, despite riding since mid 90s. I'm here because I picked up an 02 Bandit 1200s 2 weeks ago and i'm so happy to see it even at number 7!! Same blue and all, timing advance, jet kit, and full holeshot system. Supposedly 130ish on a dyno. I realized yesterday that its so much more fun taking a "monster bike" (to me) with an exhaust respectfully and as quiet as possible through the country than it is taking a smaller bike through as fast as possible. Of course I occasionally get stupid on backroads and look down on the interstate and I'm doing 95 constantly and back off. However, the prettiest roads dont need rushed through. Thanks for the knowledge and laughs .

05 R1 is a fun little toy. Still have mine that I bought new back in early 2005, had to wait for it get delivered. Yeah as you said its not 200 hp of the new R1s. But its still a rocket ship and super fast and capable. With 162 HP+ at the wheel you really can't be that disappointed (numbers it put out on the dyno back in 2005). And almost 20 years later and people still compliment it, although mine is very custom/upgraded for track riding and is basically a full 2005 Haga WSBK replica so it does stick out. Have been looking around for another one to have a normal street trim version. One day I will probably get a new one to go with this one. But yeah the 04-06 R1s are great bikes if your looking for an R1. just to add if you want something more raw the 2000-2001 R1 is a bit of a monster, had that one first. But that old carbed engine is a whole other experience.

I bought a yamaha xj600 for extremely cheap. They are about 1200 euro's max in europe. It does 0-60 in 4.5 -5sec from factory. With a bigger rear sprocket even faster! It is heavy but certainly really nimble for its weight. I think it is about the same class as a suzuki bandit but a cheaper choise.

For exquisitely well maintained large bore dad bikes with low mileage and insanely cheap prices, BMW is the king lord god. Many of them will be ginormous cruisers of the Euro flavor but there are plenty of sport touring bikes in the mix, and if you wanna go fast, 1100+ ccs is gonna do it. When you pick up a like new 2004 RS for $2700 with 3600 miles, your only question will be, can you trust the factory tires that have almost never seen sunshine UV or gotten a whiff of ozone?

I mean I’ve sat on motorcycles b4 but never drive one but I do understand all the functions and how to make it move and stop…just never did it tho…so would the 400 be gd? Don’t want to get a Grom as a first bike I was told by many that I would get bored quickly if it.

Had a 95 ZX6E, wasn't a bad little bike but has a curse of getting stuck between 2nd and 3rd. The fix, buy a new shift drum cause that's why. Love my 03 Z1000 though, odd thing is it's basically the ZX9 / 9R engine bored out and fuel injection but doesn't have the power the ZX9 had. Still not a bad bike and they go from 3 - 4,500K for gen 1 - 2
