    Watching Michael go through record bins is almost as satisfying as doing it myself. I’ve been to Randy’s many times myself. I always carved out the time to go there when I was in Salt Lake.

    I’ve been a customer of Randy’s Records for a few decades now, and I thoroughly enjoy perusing the record racks. As an avid audiophile, I need to be selective about the condition of used LP’s; I don’t want to hear the sound of a previous owner’s bad stylus/cartridge/turntable quality and improper setup.
    I’ve also been a follower Fremer's writings in Stereophile, Tracking Angle and Absolute Sound. So I know he's a record collector, and very concerned about the quality of analog playback.
    But I have to ask about two statements in this video:
    1. (17:20) Bop Till You Drop. A great album, features David Lindley, Chaka Kahn, and several others. I bought it when it was first released in 1979; I thought it sounded good then and it still sounds good now. Recorded and mastered digitally, then released on LP. Seems just like any other MoFi LP released in the last several years…
    2. (22:15) The “pissing of summer lawns.” Is he simply making an adolescent joke about the title of another great album, or was he really dismissive about this album, either because of its recording quality or the musical quality?

    Randy's is my local store and I have spent a ton of $$$ there. I enjoy my records and I will be shopping there again soon. With that said... CDs are the best format in my opinion. While there are a few records in my collection that I enjoy more on vinyl, for the most part, the CD sounds best to my ears. Sorry, Michael.

    Please excuse me for questioning your terminology , but “crate digging” as I understand is really digging through great big boxes of bark and records which are usually on the floor in record stores. They are not sorted by genre they’re not in alphabetical order or just a mishmash and that’s where the treasure hunting is and why it’s called crate digging the man in the video is simply digging through very well organized and probably over priced record albums.
    I won’t reveal my source but I found some great thrift shops to do great digging and they have hundreds of boxes of record albums on the floor. It can take you five or six hours to go through all of them but it’s worth it whether it’s for your personal collection or for high resale

    he's so full of himself. Saying the Daft Punk version of Tron wasn't good because he didn't work on it. Obviously, he doesn't know what French House music is, otherwise, he wouldn't have said that......but why would I expect an old man like him to know what French House is? He probably HATES EDM music with a passion because it's not "analog" enough for him.

    • @mden2490

      You may feel he is a bit pompous, but he may be correct in his assertion. If we can assert that one pressing is better than another, I suspect he knows much better then we do, wouldn’t you say?

    • @PlatinumEagleStudios
      @PlatinumEagleStudios 10 месяцев назад

      @@mden2490 He's in his late 60's. Would you expect a guy in his late 60's to like electronic music? I wouldn't. EDM music such as House and Trance are more what younger guys like. I highly doubt Michael has any Skrillex Deadmau5 or Tiesto in his collection, and those are just a few of the many EDM artists out there.
