So happy to see this record store featured. It was a highlight of my Japan tour last year. ❤
Yeah! So glad you got to check it out on your visit to Japan! I hope you get to come back at some point and hope you will look me up when you do! By the way, were there any other particular record-loving highlights during your trip here?
Nice. What a great place to dig...maybe one day !!
Please come! Would love to take you around if/when you make it Tokyo! Thanks for checking out the channel and dropping an encouraging comment! Appreciate it! Stay in touch
SO glad I found this channel, thanks!
@@Turrell_ glad to have you here! Appreciate the comment and encouragement! Best from Tokyo!
I always stay close to Ueno, but didn't know about this store. Thanks!
@@OJSeez Yeah, great shop and you should totally check out! Ueno is a great part of Tokyo!
Looks like a fantastic shop. I appreciate the very detailed tour. A lot of variety and those magazines were cool.
@@TheVinylverse Thanks for stopping by and for the comment! The magazines are really fantastic. I mentioned these Playboys and, wow, they were actually quite cool. They had like old Ferrari ads in them, and really off-the-wall, from-around-the-world interesting “men’s” culture. They were actually pretty neat.
Great store. On my last trip, I purchased a slew of 45 singles from the 80s there. So well curated!
@@brycesuzuki591 Tohto is cool! Let’s go together when you come again, Bryce!
@@tokyorecordstyle Deal!
Were you in Tokyo in the late 90's to early 00's? You look slightly familiar, so I'm wondering if we crossed paths.
@@Vince3C Thanks for the question. I have been here since 2004 so not exactly late 90s to early 00s. Maybe my doppelgänger was here!
what a total
Hey there! What a total what? I hope nothin too disparaging, but if so, thank you at least for watching and leaving a comment! Best from Tokyo!
People who laugh when they see Mel Torme records have a lot to learn. He was highly regarded as a jazz singer and arranger.
@@JLeeeP I love this comment! And I thank you for watching that far into the video and genuinely calling me out! Mel Torme admittedly was a punchline in a some 80s movie that I can barely remember, correction: CAN’T remember, but I remember Mel Torme! But honestly wasn’t dissing him, I was just laughing to myself cuz I’ve always thought it was a funny name, like Liza Minelli, perfectly normal name, just funny to me. But you right to call me out and yes, you are right that I have a lot to learn, so much to learn it almost cripples me to think about. I mean no disrespect and I’m sorry to him and to Mel Torme appreciators around the world. So please teach me about Mel Torme. I have an image of his look and his voice, and I even have a hunch I would really really like it. Where do I start besides wiki?
Thanks again for taking the time to comment. I’ve learned something! Not to laugh at ANYBODY when making a RUclips video. It’s not who I am! Onward and Upward!
@@tokyorecordstyle And I could certainly have been less condescending, so I apologize for that. I'm by no means a Torme expert and his career spanned decades, but anything he did for Bethlehem or Verve would be a great place to start.
No worries @JLeeeP, I had it coming, and I always see this little moments more as opportunities than anything else. I actually had Mel Torme blasting from my phone half the day yesterday, even had him going in the shower, and as I suspected, as as you suggested, it was all delightful. His version of "That's all" is something I hope to find on a 7". It would be the perfect song to end a set on. What a voice!
And my comment about 80s movie where I might have initially learned his name, I wish I could recall it, cuz as soon as I heard his voice, it dawned on my that I knew THAT voice and knew it well. He's on *something* that I grew up, like Ferris Bueller's Day off, or some John Cusack movie, cuz it was super familiar. Well, it was a great excuse to broaden my musical horizons and have a chat/thing about Mel Torme! Grateful for the comment, truly. Come round the channel again, by all means, and call me out again when I deserve it!
@@tokyorecordstyle You have an approach to life that is highly commendable, and I'm grateful for this conversation we've had. Thanks!
@@JLeeeP The gratitude is all mine :-) You leveled up my music knowledge and appreciation, and I made a new connection, both musically and personally, which is, at the core, why I'm doing this. So THANK YOU @JLeeeP! See you on the next vid!
