- Apple Certified Trainer (FCP X & Motion) and professional After Effects user, Robin S. Kurz, shows how easy it is to create animated graphics in Motion 5 without adding a single key frame. In this presentation, he does a brief comparison between Motion and After Effects, and demos some of Motion's best strengths: its real time capabilities, and the ability to publish specific parameters to give editors more control inside Final Cut Pro X.

I like how he differentiates between people who bought Motion and people who use it. I got Motion as part of the student bundle, opened it once, and never really understood what it was for. That’s until now. The presentation is a great first introduction. Thank you for it.
Cool! Definitely play around with it it! It's a lot of fun, especially in combination with Final Cut Pro X of course! ;)
Felt like i was at a college lecture. The Best Explanations ever. How he compared Motion to after effects was priceless. Uninstalled Motion years ago now im coming back home. This video will save my career. Will be browsing the net for any and everything Robin Kurz has to say about fcpx/motion for the remainder of my time here on earth. lolbvs. Good Job Team.......
Thanks! Unfortunately the vast majority of my tutorials and demos are in German. But it looks like I'll have to do a lot more in english after all! 😉
I certainly love hearing that I'm opening more eyes for Motion. Because I know it's the best tool for this kind of work. Certainly not for ALL, but for MANY. Many more than even realize it. Cheers!
POST-PROfessionals - Robin S. Kurz was bummed out when I saw the language barrier. Even related channels are the same. once again you really opened my mind man. Hope to work with you one day....
So glad you are giving Motion it's due. I am always wanting to keep learning and working in it.
Cheers! I hope I'm given more opportunity to do it again in the future!
Wow, this is mind blowing. I was worried about having to buy or subscribe to Adobe CC just for motion tracked text, but this is going to save me a ton of cash and not to mention time. Thank you so much for this!
Thanks Robin for this video! I absolutely love Motion and is my go to Motion Graphics app. My typical reaction is "You did that in Motion?"
I know, right? 😉
I am coming from a heavy Flash background, with some experience in an old version of Final Cut Express. I've been dabbling in After Effects, but the interface is just so crazy and non-intuitive, at least for me. Being very accustomed to the keyframe dogma of Flash, it looks soooo refreshing to work with behaviors! Thank you Robin, this was incredibly eye-opening!! You are a great instructor!
Thanks! Glad you likes it. :)
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked it. 😊
Great demo! Thanks!
Good bunch of useful informations.Thanks
Thank you for the tour of Motion 5 . Just a hobby of mine, being retired and doing my personal fun projects for youtube or vimeo,
Glad you liked it! Thanks.
Thanks for teaching Motion!
Hope to do it more often! 😉
I am new to Motion 5. I would like to get a good education online. Can someone give me a good tip in which Motion 5 is taught with simple steps. Thanks in advance.
I follow you along up until you stagged the other two drop zones. When I went the drop zone to select it to have it stagger down at 13 frames after the first drop zone. Problems. Either the it wouldn't move or it would stop before reaching its previous positon with the first drop zone.?
Informative shtoof. Thanks
I have an Imac 2019 27 inch. Is the Imac good enough for Motion 5?
Yes, it is.
Motion VFX rocks, Szymon Masiak template God, great masking with B Spline Well done thanks
Out of interest, what sort of soft are you hoping to produce?
you can do what you want!
Great video. Question... what title pack was that from motion vfx? I could really use titles with built in tracker.
Sorry for the very late response, but… search motionvfx.com for "callouts" and you'll find a bunch of them. I believe it was the original Callouts that I was using.
And how can you integrate bitmap files with layers (like psd files) or vectorial graphics with layers also like Adobe Illustrator?
Simply drag your PSD file to Motion's canvas and hold for a second. I menu will pop up from which you can choose how you want to import the file. Merged, as layers or even single layers.
Illustrator files can only come in as PDFs. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to get RAW VECTORS as paths or shapes into Motion. Other than maybe via a somewhat convoluted plugin/script for AI called "Motionize".
Great video, thanks! I have a Motion 5 question that I would love to see answered. I am working on a project with a flyover video that I would like to draw a path that shows the directions as the video moves. In other words I would like to animate a line that goes along with the video that stays fixed to the background. Any ideas? I am familiar with the match move function but since the background is constantly changing as the camera moves I am not sure if that would work for this application. Thanks!
That's a really tricky one. Animating the line is not an issue. Basic tracking isn't either. But COMBINING the two and having it look good is the really tricky part. *Especially* if you have moving camera and/or perspective (doll, zoom etc.). Hard to make a useful suggestion without seeing the actual footage.
Here is the set up if it helps.
I am using a drone to fly over a trail in a video. the drone will be pretty high above so you can see a good section of the trail. As it flies along I would like to paint a line on the trail to highlight it.
The issue I am having is that the match move anchor points will not stay in the frame for very long so I was hoping there was a different way to "stick" the line to the footage.
How2 did you ever get it?!
Robin S. Kurz Kicks Motion Azz!!
If you say so… I accept. 😄
Awesome thanx a lot
Regardless of how important the information is
automatic duck FCP to Motion is killer to move between the two
It's actually called "Xsend Motion" and is available through FX Factory (fxfactory.com/info/xsendmotion/). ;)
I hate the Adobe subscription model, you rent the software and don’t own it. If you can’t pay the rent anymore, you’ll lose access to all your own work since you can’t use the applications anymore to work with your files. It’s also very expensive.
Yeah. That pretty much sums it up. 😉
Somebody wake up the sound guy.
Amazing that this software is $49. Wow.
Has anyone from Adobe AfterEffects team seen this? lol..
WOW and some people pay 200 for camtasia!
