    nice - had some difficulty with duplication - adding a new picture at a different frame created more than one key frame and it messed up the rotation. I had to simply reset the parameters and readjust the key frames. Thanks again for posting these. You also mentioned something about adding a camera movement - not sure how to do that. But I'm guessing this will be covered later.

    Looks like Apple Motion is one of those apps you buy, but hardly touch. For years in my case. Then you dive into tutorials like this one and it won't take long till you're in a "how could I ever live without it" situation. What a mighty tool this is ! Still living in the shadow of FCPX.
    I wish they would adjust the user interface of both, motion and FCPX however. Should be more like Logic. Thinking of how to set locators, switch cycle mode, set markers, have a track for tempo changes etc. Why not have direct access to the Logic Apple Loops with all it's noises and effects in Motion and FCPX ? Also the transport panel of Logic would fit in here very well. A lot of other things too.

    First of all, thank you for all the tutorials you posted. They are VERY helpful!!! With the knowledge I gained from your tutorials, I built a generator in which a series of pictures (dropzones) are slowly moving away from the camera (the camera actually moves but you get the gist). The issue I am running into is I can't seem to figure out how to adjust size/position of pictures within the dropzone once I publish the generator in FCPX. The dropzones are 16x9 landscape, but if I import a portrait picture it gets cropped and I would like to be able to control the size/position the same way your video shows at the 16:02 mark. In Motion 5 I am not getting the same inspector which the video shows. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I believe it's something I need to publish in Motion; maybe you can point me the right direction. Thanks again for the great videos.

    • @AVUltra
      @AVUltra  5 лет назад

      back in Motion- Click your project and dropzone and "publish the inside scale and position parameters. You might need to add a mask into it as well to keep things in a certain layout. I have a couple lessons in cameras and clones where I use a series of drop zones and publish them- maybe those would help?
      Thanks for the kind words!

    • @thepicard7670
      @thepicard7670 5 лет назад +1

      @@AVUltra Thanks for the quick reply. I found the issue: I needed to actually drag a picture into the dropzone. Once I did that, the Inspector showed the size/position parameters which I could now publish. When I went into FCPX I was able to change those as I needed. It is odd how those published parameters are listed below all dropzones, instead of being listed with each dropzone. My project has 21 dropzones, 4:30 min long; the idea is I open it with FCPX and just add pics and sound and I now have a custom picture collage. The other thing I was surprised to see is how LONG it takes for FCPX to render my generator. I run a 3.4 processor with 24 Gigs of RAM, and it still takes 20-30 min to render a 4:30 min video. After watching your video about rendering/exporting, I am now testing the option of exporting the project as a movie, it appears to go a lot faster than rendering through FCPX. Again, your videos are very informative and well put together. I truly learned a lot by watching them.

      @@AVUltra Just got done using the share to Apple devices option and that is the way to go. For anyone else out there trying to build a custom generator, especially used for picture collages (family trips, soccer season, etc) sharing to Apple devices (in Motion 5) is the way to go for these reasons: 1. It takes a lot less time to actually save the file. 2. You can edit everything right there in Motion; no need to worry about publishing whatever you may need edit in FCPX. 3. Just as the movies saved in FCPX, it plays on all Apple devices (saves as .m4v file). Thanks again for the tutorials!

    • @AVUltra
      @AVUltra  5 лет назад

      Glad to see its working!
      About your note about publishing from Motion as a generator- Your slowdown are due likely because of a few things: 3D camera and perspectives, Motion Blur, lots of particles, any or all the combinations of those. Motion has some great technology in it, but a lot has changed in the decade that some of those things are based on. I suspect a major update is coming (hopefully) that should address those notes.
      With you exporting out of motion instead of generators- thats kinda exactly what motion is designed for. Those that are a bit more serious about producing motion graphics, where the Final cut is really for the implementations, the operation and customization of some things.
      In that same decade- while other companies are trying to combine those things (Black Magic Design, Adobe to name a couple) Apple has I believe rightly created a true configuration that works. Editors are learning more motion graphics, but the full time editors are focusing on the edit. The Motion graphics people and animators need their own workspace and way of looking at tools and UI like what Motion offers. And moreso, it offers a way for the motion designers to give editors and producers a way to still adjust the key components of an edits graphic needs by the use of published parameters, and build in build out durations.
      Im happy to ear you've gotten so much out of the lessons, but I expect nothing less from The Picard.

      @@AVUltra I am fairly new to the Apple eco system (less than a year), and up until now I have been using very generic software for those family picture collages with music in the background. Now with all the 4K TVs and the incredible picture quality that comes with it, I am really enjoying Motion (more so than FCPX). Initially, upon starting to mess with Motion and after watching most of your how-to videos, my plan was to put together these generators of various lengths and dropzones and then publish them in Final Cut. The idea was that my wife could then open FCPX, easily drag and drop pictures/soundtrack and create movies on her own. While that is still a possibility, the amount of time it takes to render/share is almost a killer. It appears that anytime I even replace a picture within a dropzone with another picture, the whole project starts to render from the beginning.
      I see what you are saying about Motion and FCPX being used differently by content creators vs editors and that is true. I only use it as a hobby and my family really enjoys the new stuff I put together. With that said, in my picture collages, I try to tell a story of whatever the event was, instead of just dropping pictures in a random order.
      As I watch sports (mostly European soccer) I believe I could (if I had the time) replicate most of their transitions/animation graphics, the ones at beginning of games and replays. My next project is to get me some green screen fabric and start to mess with footage/green screen. I coach girls soccer and each year I make a video for our end-of-season party. For the next season, I would like to create a video where I can have each player be introduced by means of green screen effect, where each player would take several steps and then place their foot on the ball while looking at the camera (or a variation thereof), kind of like the big league players being introduced at the beginning of their games. The more I use it, the more I am enjoying Motion.
      Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to you.

    • @AVUltra
      @AVUltra  3 года назад

      You can keyframe or publish the pan setting of dropzones but it’s inside the dropzone layer. Without seeing your project can’t help more, but I almost always publish the scale, pan, inside dropzones to adjust for its contents.

    thanks another useful lesson. It seems that you need all your clips stored in the photos location? If not, you have to import the picture or video, which becomes a layer, and then you can convert to a dropzone (a b it circuitous). Is there any way to just file browse all locations and then drag / drop into a dropzone?

    • @AVUltra
      @AVUltra  5 лет назад

      Thanks for following these lessons along!
      To answer your question- it's a matter of workflow and theres some unfinished work on apples part.
      Originally the whole photos thing and some dropzone stuff was made to work directly with the iphone and other cameras to work directly with FCPX.. The thought was you could use the photos app to access short photos and videos to add to your videos directly in FCPX and likely Motion. Except very few people actually do that even in FCPX and they just import what they need when they need it. This workflow was like never put into Motion at all although it would be pretty handy.
      So you do NOT have have to have your items stored in photos at all and for some its more trouble to put them in photos.
      In this case you can just import it into FCPX as normal.
      However theres some really cool things in photos. Like searching by person place or thing. Its pretty cool and you can search all your photos for specific things in them like Red Car etc. Again- doesnt really exist at all in Motion.
      For dropzones in Motion, you need to import it as a layer first to drag it into a dropzone.
      Hope that helps.

    So whats the difference from a drop zone vs just importing videos straight to the timeline?

    • @AVUltra
      @AVUltra  3 года назад +2

      Drop zones can be preaninated and be part of templates making it an easy drag and drop for different effects and look.
      Importing into the timeline does just brings the flat video in.

    • @AVUltra
