    Really loved the dual angles in the video. I'd avoid putting the plastic bit (used for flow control) into the cafiza cleaner as the acid can damage the plastic, in the same way as it damages the rubber o-ring.

    Should also add descaling along with back flushing & group head cleaning to the schedule. Descaling should be done approx every 3 months or so to prevent scale build up inside the boiler. Nice video Chis. The Gaggia with non pressurized basket can make excellent espresso if a good grinder is used. Cheers!

      @@Reissnagel2 The espresso was very light and the flow rate was waaayyy too fast. He might need to go down to 8 or 9 bar on his gaggia as they come over pressurized OOTB.

    Looks easy and manageable! :) Is this consistent among Gaggia classics from the last 20 years? There are a couple of "cheaper" Gaggia classics on ebay for about 160-190€ and I'm looking to buy one..

    • @upscalebohemian5372
      @upscalebohemian5372 4 года назад

      If it's clogged you need to descale it. Cleaning is basically a strong detergent. For hard water deposits inside the machine that clog it you want to use a product like Urnex Dezcal. It's cheapest to buy in the 900 g bottle, not the packets.

      we don't have hard water, so i do a descaling about every 4-6 weeks (i have a sense of whether i have used my machine heavily or not since the last descaling.) i was just running citric acid dissolved in water thru the boiler and steamer and soaking the baskets in the solution too. i put the solution in the water tank and run water thru the group for a minute or so and run it thru the steam wand for a minute or so (doesn't have to be at steam temp) and then shut it off and just let it sit for ~10 minutes. After the soak, i run the whole tank thru, alternating b/w the group and the steamer. then i clean the water tank and put fresh water in it and run that whole tank thru, again alternating b/w group and steamer. Then finally put fresh water in and it's ready to go.
      But, i found that i do need to regularly remove the disperser and clean it too. also, i just replaced the group gasket after 3 years - that was too long - should have replaced it a year ago if not sooner. that needs to get into my regular maintenance too.

    Gaggia doesn't like back flush, it can damage internal components such as the solenoid valve.

    This was really a fast clean. But there are things I do different. In the end the machine was not clean at all. The cup warmer looked scratched up and "stained". Exterior of the group head housing looked filthy and finally my favorite part when ramming all the parts together all items were not dried off after rinsing.

    Your cleaning solution is not for aluminium I think. So backflushing should be done with citric acid and not this stuff. Stainless parts can be used with that cleaning solution.
