I love vagabond but no one can convince me the last farm arc was good in fact it’s probably the reason it won’t continue should of been a chapter or two but it’s like a huge chunk of the story of the same thing happening
@@SchnozMeisterI still think the Yoshioka arc is the best arc. Farming arc was beautiful but there was something satisfying about Musashi finally beginning to understand what his past teachers were trying to teach, and how much calmer of a person he had become, with a base level of respect for other fighters
It's kind of a meme to hate on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if a huge chunk of the fanbase legitimately doesn't like it. Which is a shame because it's such a good payoff to Musashi's personal narrative, and it features some of my favorite panels/pages from the entire manga.
I completely agree. For the same reason why Anno got so much backlash for the way he ended Neon Genesis Evangelion, I think many of the people who don't like Farming village ark genuenly don't understand the story and just read the manga for the fight scenes.
I just started reading this recently. Today I read the entire Yagyu arc in one sitting and that’s the first time I’ve seen the story reach an elite level. I’m very excited to continue
Beautiful video. The journey of Takezo to becoming Musashi, back into Takezo once more, thematically accepting the wholeness of himself is so poetic. I love how the story of Vagabond teaches us as people that to be strong is to be kind and appreciative of the world around us and the situations we find ourselves in.
Thanks, and yeah I love the way "strength in kindness" is presented in Vagabond. It's a theme featured in many stories, but in Vagabond it feels distinctly earned because we followed Musashi throughout so much of his life and see how his philosophy changes and becomes more nuanced.
Seeing Musashi working the earth was a profoundly interesting experience. People may dislike it because it doesnt have any fighting, but that is one of the peak moments in philosophy. Appreciating vagabond comes from enjoying the journey, at least in my opinion.
Zen kind of reminds me of what psychologists call the “zone.” The zone is when you focus so much into an activity that you lose your sense of self and time.
One of my favorite parts in the manga is the farming arc when the farmers start singing even while in pain and hunger. It reminded me of The myth of sisyphus by Albert Camus
true even tho some died cause of starvation and other things they still continued and at last they succeeded honestly i was sooo happy even tho i broke my back while reading this manga and it was worth it tho
I think i get it. Takezo’s father had a very outward looking definition of being invincible. Being invincible to him meant being better than everyone else. That’s why he was so paranoid. If even one other person could beat him, then he wouldn’t be invincible anymore. And that is the definition of invincibility that takezo inherited. However, after becoming musashi, through his introspection, he realizes how fleeting and meaningless it is to be invincible if all it means is being better than everyone else. He realizes that being invincible doesn’t rely on other people. It relies on how you see yourself and how you test yourself. Being invincible isn’t killing 70 weaker samurai, it’s climbing a mountain and testing yourself to see if you can. Because zen is about looking inward, not outward. And that is why he couldn’t kill Yagyu. Even if he murdered him right there in his sleep, it wouldn’t matter. Because Yagyu’s invincibility isn’t dependent on whether or not he can be killed by someone else. Yagyu’s invincibility lies within his own mind’s infinity and isn’t affected by other people. So even if Musashi killed him, that wouldn’t make Musashi invincible, because invincibility isn’t about being the best.
I swear it’s a sin a still haven’t touched this story. From friends telling me and watching videos like yours tell me about an extravagant story with an extremely detailed art style prompts me to start. Hopefully I get around to it soon. Love the video
Im really not a fan of taking in so much information in such a short time, it makes me feel like a lot of the story can be overshadowed by me still thinking about previous events
when i first read Vagabond back in high school, I was exactly like Musashi, angry, hatred-driven. But after experiencing many traumatic events and failing countless times, I finally understand "invincible" or "the best" is merely a title, a label. The art (or the joy) of betterment one's self doesn't lie in becoming the no 1 but it lies in the journey of learning through every step. It is the joy of growing, of opening one's mind to the world.

Holy, this video was amazing. I read Vagabond twice already and i really really liked it. It was a fun read with interesting themes but thats were it stopped for me. I love the idea of self discovery but the spiritual undertone is something that i never took too serious. I always related to the idea of proving urself in a society through force. But more in a sense that i have to force myself with my artistic ambitions. Vagabond showed me that this longing for appreciation and notoriety is a part of human nature - not bound by time or place. But I never found Musashi thaaaat interesting despite this knowledge. I think I felt the same way that you did about the spiritual aspect of the narrative and about Musashi as a character my first time reading Vagabond. I didn't understand the spiritual aspects, and I couldn't really relate to Musashi's struggles. But while I was reading Eugen's book, I was constantly thinking of Vagabond and everything started to click. Then when I started re-reading chapters in preparation for this video, it was insane, it was like there was this side to Musashi that I completely missed my first time through.

I rarely see videos on RUclips that I feel discuss Vagabond properly. Most videos on Vagabond just say something along the lines of "Musashi's development is really good" but never explain why, but this video actually explains the why. Excellent job and I can't wait to watch more videos from you.
Hey, thank you very much! I wanted to make this video different from my usual stuff, but it sounds like it's pretty different from other people's stuff too which is cool to hear. Admittedly, I've only seen one Vagabond video from a small channel since I usually try to avoid watching other people's stuff about things I want to give my opinion on, but whenever I searched "Vagabond manga" on youtube, only a small handful of results would come up, so I thought it would be nice to throw in my 2 cents.
I’ve never heard of this series, but I’m about to be all over it! I’ve studied Iaido and even some the western sword. His journey has led me down this path that I’ve been on for 40 years now. Well done sir, well done.

@@SchnozMeister By the way, have you read goodnight punpun before? If so I would love to see a review for it, I want to hear your takes on it. I feel like you’d do a really good job with shedding light on the deeper meaning of the story, along with drawing attention to hidden details that many readers would simply not notice. If you haven’t read it, then I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s one of the greatest manga I have ever read and it really made me step back and take a second to analyze everything going on, not many manga have intrigued me to this extent. Seriously a 10/10.
I actually read it a couple of years ago, but I didn't really vibe with it. I went in blind after a friend's reccomendation, and I was uhh, surprised to say the least lol. I can't see myself doing a video on it at the moment, but it's not totally off the table. I remember liking the story when Punpun was a kid, but after that it kind of fell off for me personally. I know that's kind of the point, but still, I'm conflicted on whether I actually like the manga or not. I just don't think I'd have anything interesting to really say about it. I've read a couple of Asano's other works as well, and I just don't think his stuff is for me.
This is interesting, my childhood was similar to takezo’s so I was never frustrated with him I understood his journey and I know the feeling of wanting to be invincible to never be that weak again to want to face the strongest of the strong to prove you are stronger and to ultimately not understand yourself and feelings because of your childhood. This manga stuck out to me because it was like looking into a bloody mirror.
this video really opened my mind, it's crazy, i'm willing to be a better person and evolve as much as i can so i'd like if someone could recommend more videos like this, thanks and goodbye
This is the best Vagabond video i´ve ever seen. You have truly understood Inoue´s magnum opus in a way that i understood but i couldn´t explain with words until now. Thank you :D
What a beautiful video of my favourite fictional work, you have such a deep understanding of the story Inoue intended to tell which is unfortunately very rare from the little Vagabond discourse I've seen. You articulated yourself fantastically too, I'm excited to go through your entire catalogue of videos! Thank you so much for this.
This is such a good video essay. An excellent attempt to convey the unconveyable at the heart of Vagabond. Really resonated with my own journey with the manga.
Hey thanks man :^) There's definitely a lot more to talk about, but this video pretty much covered the aspects of Vagabond that I'm personally the most passionate about, so I don't think I have much more to say atm that other people haven't already said.
Such awesome explanation together with the book! I haven't read it but I think it adds another level of deepness to Vagabond. I'm suscribing, thank you!
Dude finally someone talking about Vagabond and actually mentions Buddhism. So many people talk about vagabond and it's philosophy yet have no clue what the messages really are, it's all in Buddhism.
hey i know that im pretty late to this video's release date.. but i just wanted to thank you for this video. there's so much information in here just in terms of self growth and improvement. i plan to watch this video thoroughly and write good pointers! big ups man, and i hope you have a wonderful day!
Love this video, I find it amazing how every time I read Vagabond my appreciation for it grows even further and this video made me appreciate it even more :)
i didn't realize how much musashi have grown till i was checking my screenshot folder and found a pic of him from vol 1 and couldn't comprehend how they were the same person
Great vid! Musashi's teaching inspired me to start my channel based on his philosophy, especially the Book of Five Rings and Dokkodo! Thank you for posting!!⚔
3:22 all the characters are so alive. The monk Takuan for sure is my favourite. But I also like Takezos friend, the lying samurai, i related a lot because i used to be a lying bastard. And Takezo was like my wild older brother who even being brutal he was my brother and only kind to me.
reaction without thought is a perfect way to describe how I used to play badminton. when I got really into a game, I'd simply be flowing, moving. I'd catch fast shots that should have gone right by me, like I could see the future. it was a beautiful feeling, and I've been chasing it ever since. maybe I should stop chasing it, and let it come back on its own. I'm sure I have the capability. odd anecdote, but hey, maybe that was a state of zen.

That really echoes with one quote in the manga that „The ultimate goal of all swordsmen learning swords is finding a way that doesn’t need a sword to swing.“ That’s why both strongest swordsmen saints said,“My sword unify with Heaven and Earth.“ as the pinnacle of swordsmanship
I feel like musashi is on a journey to learn to harness his natural adhd and zone out while fighting. Lol. Ive heard of craftsman who completely lose focus when carving birds out of wood and it ends up better if not just as good as there previous best work

Apologies for the delay but I'm BACK!
Thanks a lot ! Great video!
this video really opened my mind, it's crazy, i'm willing to be a better person and evolve as much as i can so i'd like if someone could recommend more videos like this, thanks and goodbye
Great, great video! Thanks for sharing your appreciation for this work.
I would love more vagabond videos, your prespective and how you put things are amazing and helped a lot, I think I'll reread it because of that
Hey thanks man :^)
There's definitely a lot more to talk about, but this video pretty much covered the aspects of Vagabond that I'm personally the most passionate about, so I don't think I have much more to say atm that other people haven't already said.
After reading the manga in its current entirety, I have to say it’s pretty awesome with its overarching theme of finding meaning in your life.
I'm dealing with a bunch of bullshit electives but i think i can make the most of my time and appreciate my learning as well :) thankk you
Such awesome explanation together with the book! I haven't read it but I think it adds another level of deepness to Vagabond. I'm suscribing, thank you!
When you said, "Of course, there is some MASTERFUL fucking artistry on display here" at 22:06, I felt that 😪
Dude finally someone talking about Vagabond and actually mentions Buddhism.
I appreciate it, and I'm glad u enjoyed! Have a great day as well dude
Thank you so much for making this video and taking the time you take to show how much you care for the truth.
Love this video, I find it amazing how every time I read Vagabond my appreciation for it grows even further and this video made me appreciate it even more :)
Vagabond is a near perfect manga. Literally a 9.9/10
i didn't realize how much musashi have grown till i was checking my screenshot folder and found a pic of him from vol 1 and couldn't comprehend how they were the same person
Great vid! Musashi's teaching inspired me to start my channel based on his philosophy, especially the Book of Five Rings and Dokkodo! Thank you for posting!!⚔
Ah I've heard of the Book of Five Rings but I don't know too much about it; maybe one day! Thanks :^)
Vagabond is extravagant, violent, beautiful, philosophical, and simplistic in the most unique way.
3:22 all the characters are so alive. The monk Takuan for sure is my favourite. But I also like Takezos friend, the lying samurai, i related a lot because i used to be a lying bastard. And Takezo was like my wild older brother who even being brutal he was my brother and only kind to me.
The guts theme kicking in around @21:00 is transcendant
reaction without thought is a perfect way to describe how I used to play badminton.
when I got really into a game, I'd simply be flowing, moving.
I think for sports specifically there's a general term called a "flow state" which is very similar
@@SchnozMeister yea, perhaps different terms for the same concept?
Thank you for making this video, just what I needed to connect my thoughts on the manga
Finally watched the thing and I just wanna say
Banger.
Muy buen video, gracias a él tengo una imagen más clara sobre esta obra.

Eyy thanks my guy, hopefully i'll get there one day
It took hardly 3days to caught up with the manga and I don't regret start to read hoping they'll continue the manga as per authors health issue.
its been 8 years sensei
This video was enhanced so much by the music choice. Really helped cement the theme of spirituality and self-reflection.
perfect video man i love it
You’ve got a new subscriber. Excellent video mate 👍
Great video man! I'll definetly have a look on Hillgers book. :D

Wow absolutely amazing video. Keep it up
good video, like reaaallly good video. I read it all and loved it, and your added introspection helps me to love it even more within the bigger picture.
Holy shit man amazing video definitely deserves way more love 🔥.
Zen is you becoming intertwined with the art form, you’re no longer the archer, the bow is shooting itself. Egoless, thoughtless and emptyness is making the bow shoot it self. I know it sounds dumb but it’s true.
Sounds nice
babe wake up new schnoz meister video just dropped 💞
:^O
:^D
rlly rlly good video bro, it led me to watch more vids from your chanel and im amazed. i hope you get more views and uploud more often, you really deserve it
Appreciate it dawg, thank u
Thanks a lot for this video:)
This video was so amazing, can’t wait for more, also really appreciate the editing
Great analysis and keep up the good work good luck
That really spoke to me, I’m definetely getting the manga
ive been waiting to watch this here we go!
there's a 53 hour audiobook of the novelized version of this same story and it's fucking awesome to listen to.
This was incredibly done🔥💯👏
Beautiful video bro
Fantastic video my dude.
Having seen and read a lot of PEAK media, I have to say, Musashi is def one of my favorite protagonists of all time.
I feel like musashi is on a journey to learn to harness his natural adhd and zone out while fighting. Lol. Ive heard of craftsman who completely lose focus when carving birds out of wood and it ends up better if not just as good as there previous best work
I really love your commentary keep it up!
