I've done this a few times. Here are some tips to make it more flavorful (the original recipe is quite bland to be honest). 1. Instead of putting the apple slices in water+lemon juice, use apple juice+lemon juice. The apple flavour will be stronger (it will not disappear in the water). 2. Don't add water to the apricot preserves. Use apricot jam instead (without big fruit chunks). 3. Instead of sprinkling cinnamon (it adds very little taste), incorporate it directly in your apricot jam before spreading. 4. Add nutmeg! So many apple+pastry recipes only use cinnamon. Nutmeg adds an additional dimension to the taste.
I practiced this first (since I don't cook or bake) to see if I could do it and WOW. It was so easy and beautiful and tasty and I know it will be a big hit at the family Christmas morning breakfast. Thank you for helping a grandma look good. Instead of me bringing my usual store bought rolls, I am bringing a tasty piece of art. If I can do it ... ANYONE can do it.
I just made these tonight for my family and they turned out great! I used cinnamon, sugar n butter for the first two, raspberry jam instead of apricot for 2, and caramel sundae sauce for the last 2. I think the cinnamon sugar won, with caramel close behind
this is actually the best recipe video for apple rose cupcakes XD its short, no annoying talking, everything is just shown and written and in the end it just looks amazing :D good job :3
Thanks Manuella for posting this! I wanted to do something slightly different for my wife on Mothers Day and buying roses are so typical, but MAKING these roses ( She LOVES desserts! ) that she can enjoy in more than one way is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!! Rodney
This is beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing. My husband loves apple desserts, apricots and he is a gardener. I will try these for Father's day! He'll love them!
Thank you for this video. It inspired me to create miniature roses using one of those mini-muffin tins. I cut the pastry into 12 slices, and used 4 slices of apple for each rose they were just darling and a big hit. I microwaved the slices without any water at all, then patted them dry. They need to be very dry to roll up properly when the piece is so small. And then I topped them with caramel sauce. Oh my. Again, thank you! I never would have thought this up on my own.
I tried this and it was amazing!!! It is very important to cut in thin slices. This is my favourite apple recipe from now on! Super easy and super delicious :)
Hi Manuela. My daughter and I made this lovely desert and served it with vanilla ice-scream last night. it was breeze. Thank you so much for sharing. I remembered your instructions easily. Thanks again from Nairobi, Kenya.
Hi Manuella! wow! what a Success the Rose Pastry dessert was with my wife!! I can honestly say I have not seen her more surprised to receive a dozen roses as she was on the morning of Mother's Day! Thanks again!!
I tried this today for the second time. Today i put over the cinnamon a little bit of sugar bevore rolling in. With vanilla ice cream -> fantastic. Thanx for this recipe.
Thank you for this, I've made this 3 times in one week!! They've been a hit with everyone, so beautiful, easy & delicious. Above all, my kids love them!!
Marta Santos: I only tried this recipe with preserve. You can use apricot, peach, plum ... or what you like. Or you could experiment with other things ... maybe honey?! The puff pastry is not sweet, so you need to add a bit of sweetness to it. Let me know if you try it :)
Made these recently and used a mandolin slicer to cut thin, even slices and used caramel instead of apricot preserves. Absolutely delicious, thank you!
Hi Manuela. I was wondering. Do you maybe have a recipe for something similar to this, that would make a great appetizer? Like maybe making the rose with Zucchini, green chile, bacon and cheese?
I bought filo dough in error, but decided to try it anyway -- kept spraying the filo with Pam to add the right degree of richness. They came out beautifully, and I hope my dinner guests will be wowed!
That's such a awesome, simple but impressive recipe. I am thinking of making those as my valentine roses :) Thank you for sharing such a wonderful recipe Manuela. cheers ! :) dipankar
Hi! YES, all you need to do is simmer the apple slices in some of the water with lemon, until soft enough that you can fold/roll without breaking. For the preserve, just warm it up until easier to spread. I also posted a recipe for roses with peach slices and a Nutella/hazelnut filling. But you an also try ripe peaches on this one. See the recipe here: ruclips.net/video/7QB-DoSqNqo/видео.html Thanks!!
Impress your guests with this beautiful rose-shaped baked dessert made with lots of soft and delicious apple slices, wrapped in sweet and crispy puff pastry. By Cooking with Manuela
Manuela MMine are in the oven right now!!! I just hope i got the heat right. Do you use the air circulation function when making them? I am gonna make a second batch with zucchini, goat cheese and garlic. Green roses :) Hope it works ;)
redhotmustang a thank you so much!! I'm set up for monetarization on both... But it seems it's not as much as I could do. I have to do a little research!! And yes, I looked into buying my domain, but I'm not sure how that would affect my current posts. Would you know?! Tks!!
Dreama Lopez Hi Dreama!! I finally published a new rose-shaped savory appetizer. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/EZ0E2KkISGQ/видео.html Let me know what you think!!
Organic apples? Just eat apple people, less promotion of organic and more drive to get people to eat better and to be able to afford it also would be great! Love the recipe by the way.
Made this today and they came out GREAT....I've seen others and decided on this recipe because it seems a little healthier. The others use ALOT of sugar. Lightly dusting the tops with the powdered sugar is enough, I think. Thanks for the recipe. They are beautiful and yummy
I just made these today. The assembly goes remarkably quickly. And they were delicious! Only difference was I had to use a fancy blueberry jam, didn't have apricot. And remember to test your apple slices. If the're not thin enough or cooked enough they'll snap instead of rolling neatly.
thanks for the visual. the recipe looks so much easier when you see it being made. does anyone appreciate the effort when you bake something that looks like the roses? went to pastry school and the question was can I taste that not how difficult was it to make
Thanks! This worked great and it was my first time making these.. people who are saying their apples are breaking and not folding I'm pretty sure you're cutting he slices too thick or not using enough lemon juice or time in the microwave. PS. Add brown sugar gets even better!
Hello Ray Thorpe 375 degrees Fahrenheit are in german: 190 Grad Celsius. Try this. They are excellent and a great eyecatcher. I love them! Thanks for recipe Manuela.
they look simply gawjus and delicious, my daughter has a 3 course meal buffet fundraiser coming up we are definitely going to do these, thank you so much for sharing your awesome talents with us :-)

They also have apple pie spice, a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and I think allspice - that would be good too...
Yummy suggestions! Thanks!
I've also found that red plum jam instead of apricot taste really really good. My kids prefer plum.
Would it have more taste if tart apples were used?
I practiced this first (since I don't cook or bake) to see if I could do it and WOW. It was so easy and beautiful and tasty and I know it will be a big hit at the family Christmas morning breakfast. I gotta try this- my brain is already thinking about different apple varieties with various fillings. My guests will love this! Thank you for sharing.
Haha!! Great :) And yes... That's the fun of this recipe. You can change it up and experiment with ingredients!
I just made these tonight for my family and they turned out great! I used cinnamon, sugar n butter for the first two, raspberry jam instead of apricot for 2, and caramel sundae sauce for the last 2. I think the cinnamon sugar won, with caramel close behind

Manuela M

This is the most beautiful desert I have ever seen!
Hi Manuela. I was wondering. Do you maybe have a recipe for something similar to this, that would make a great appetizer? Like maybe making the rose with Zucchini, green chile, bacon and cheese?

Manuela M will adding a cupcake liner affect the way the pastry bakes?
I bought filo dough in error, but decided to try it anyway -- kept spraying the filo with Pam to add the right degree of richness. They came out beautifully, and I hope my dinner guests will be wowed!

Not an apple fan but would love to try this recipe! Are there any alternative steps that can replace microwave instructions? I don't own a microwave.
