This moments always get me. Gintoki's dissociated look, finally revisiting the past he so strongly tried to move forward from. To finally allow himself to be taken back to what he held most dear, being a child again in that dojo with Shoyo instead of facing the cruel reality of the moment. Accepting death so easily despite all the times we saw him fight to the brink of death for others. Kagura snapping him back to the present, making him remember that there were things to still fight for even if his precious memories were now tainted. It all happened in a split moment, but all the emotions were there.
Gin recovered pretty quickly didn't he. Other shonen protagonists whould be shocked for multiple chapters after seeing their long dead beloved master trying to kill them, only snapping out of it after a 2 monologues, an explanation, and a pep talk. But with Gin just remembering Kagura exists snaps him back and it's BAM! Back to fighting, no need to tell m e what's going on, you tried to kill us, die now. Gin's sword truly is his companions and his soul is truly full and satisfied
Gin is in his 20s and has gone through A LOT (even compared to the other characters in the whole series) from a very young age. He has pretty much undergone a lot of character development prior to the series and is already very mature by the start of the series. Best. Protagonist. Ever.
I love the way the anime flashed gintoki's memories of shoyo on his face when shoyo is revealed in the anime, but damn, that shading in the manga makes the emotion so much more intensely, idk if it is the black and white shading or what, but it hits hard as well.
It's very good compared to the slip arc or the silver soul arc (since those are just awful in animation), but still, a lot of the frames are stiff and awkward. Hmm, I guess you can't see it, some people can't unfortunately and easily call bad animation "good."
I actually enjoy most of the shows I watch. However, you are not a real fan if you allow yourself to enjoy and praise an adaptation that is nothing short of disrespect to the original work :)
Gah, the music choices in this scene. Fucking brilliant, honestly. Having Shouyou’s theme play puts the audience right back there in the flashback with Gintoki. Even subconsciously, simply because it’s played in every shouyou flashback scene. But then. _then._ Utsuro’s theme is dramatic as hell at the best of times, but having it slam back in as Kagura yells? Quite literally gives me chills. Incredible. Honestly every single thing about this reveal was on _point._
Can we talk about the manga..i frickin love the tension Sorachi gave and drew. Most fans really underestimated the manga which is sad bc it is my fav shonen jump manga
If this was adapted by another studio, they would drag this reveal for like 12 epsiodes, while sprinkling irrelevant flashbacks between scenes and have a random filler episode in-between
How bro ☠️ Casca was raped by Femto/Griffith and almost got raped a few times, Guts had to cut off his arm with a broken sword while Casca, Guts’ lover, gets raped in front of him, Hedonistic Orgies, A man is tortured for months straight, a man kills a little boy, Griffith sacrifices the Band of The Hawk, Guts almost kills his demonized premature newborn, Guts had to watch as Casca was taken away from him, He lost an eye to save Casca, he was abused and tortured by Gambino before being sold for mere coins, and many more that I can’t keep count of.
1:27 Ah...my god, when I first saw this scene it almost seems that I was the one who remembered those times spend with Shouyou...and that music...mamma mia. This scene is immortal.
only certain studios manage to direct a good pacing, like Sunrise, Bones, Ufotable... Toei pretty sure aint one of them😂😌. sad that excellent manga have shitty adaptation, while generic manga received undeserved adaptation(uhuk uhuk DSlayer). long episodes might lowering the quality but glad that Gintama never drop its quality, thanks to great work of Sunrise and its subsidiary BNP
Sadly it’s way too short, but this is easily one of the greatest sword fights in anime. Gintoki was matching him blow for fucking blow until he realized it was/wasn’t Shoyo. Those “ghost slashes” from Utsuro were sick; Gintoki’s reflexes were near perfect for his parries; he gets ingenious even after losing his composure completely. Just an all around 10/10.
0:32 Yo how did Utsuro manage to block the sword with the handle if he already was striking gintoki from above?.... Other than that I think this fight was sickkk.

I think you should watch the anime. The anime got really good voice actors and amazing soundtracks. At the beginning, the animation is kinda poor but as you can see, it gets better. At which episode are you right now?
I like both the manga and anime. As you can see, sometimes the anime does it better in the manga, sometimes the manga does it better than the anime. Really just depends if you'd rather read or listen to them. I personally prefer the anime over the manga. Though that's not saying I dislike the manga. Then again, this comment is so late, you've probably already finished the anime so now I'am questioning myself for writing this as I'am about to click send.
