Despite having no family in most of his childhood, Gintoki become a really great dad and big brother. Makes me wonder if he took another lesson beside swordmanship from Shouyou.
Tbh he probably took care of a lot of the younger orphans they took under their wing, Takasugi and Zura alongside Shouyou, and that's the reason why he's so good with kids. I kinda theorize that because we can see that Takasugi and Katsura fell apart when Gintoki disappeared from their lives a decade ago, and resorted to radical terrorism. Katsura only became a moderate after he and Gin reunited, Takasugi finally managed to make his peace with their past after Gintoki beat some sense into him.
Honestly , the whole family dynamic between theses 3 really sold Gintama to me (Especially the father-daugher link between Gintoki and Kagura) It's so wholesome to see them living their lives together

I think the reason shinpachi didnt get much spotlight in the show is because he already won the war with himself, its just my guess tho. Like you can develop shinpachi's character to level 1000 and he would be no different from episode 1. He's just built different.
