Rc4wd finally released a great scaler with some actual fun built-in for play! The Miller Rock Racer is definitely not built like a basher, but should be lots of fun doing trail truck things with your friends!
Thanks for the review on this truck. I think you're right, that its a great new model. I have mine in my garage as of about 2 weeks ago. I have completely disassembled it, and am now putting it back together. So far it looks like it'll be a lot of fun. If you want a truck to jump over houses with, you won't like it. If you're into U4RC racing, this isn't your truck either. But if you want some fun, scale offroading to do, this is an awesome model. And for everyone who thinks its junk, but doesnt own one yet, I'm glad you didn't buy one. Because I was able to score one before they sold out! Thanks!
I think it is such a monumental task in rc to meld two diametrically opposed segments and have success in both. This truck is damn close. Most bashers buying this would want a hotter motor for a higher top end and crawlers obviously as stated would want to rid the drivetrain slop and shock issues. Both things I think can be accomplished. Especially with the $500 entry fee.
Now a review by someone who paid for their rig. The decals were peeling off already when I received it (no replacement decals sold either), all panels are different colours. The pod filter fell off in the box, the seats are not to scale, way too small. The 3 micro servos are under constant and considerable pressure when in: 2wd only, diffs are locked or in 2nd gear - these servos will burn out fairly quickly depending on use. Mine struggles to shift into 2nd gear already and it hasn't left the house yet. The servo savers are fragile, don't tighten too much, one of mine broke. The cables are ultra thin and fray easily when trying to reinsert. The 2 gear diffs click / skip, RC4WD had room to put in 2 more gears for extra strength but they cheaped out. Both ring gears were already loose on the diff bodies after 2 in the house crawls. My transmission also clicks / gears are now skipping under load (sounds like transfercase gears), the planetary gears and the sun gear are tiny and moulded, not machined, these won't tolerate too much hurt at all. The difference between transmission ratios is good though. The driveshafts have circlips on the pins, these will be quite vulnerable to popping off on the rocks, a cheap design as is the use of phillips head screws which takes me back to the 1980's.. The shocks have 2 drops of light oil in each, 1.5 drops of which has already leaked out already. As a massive Erik Miller fan, I wanted to love this rig but it's just been designed so poorly and cheaply made that I can't recommend it to anyone. I regret buying it to be honest.
Hello RC Review, great video from you, as always. How long is this vehicle really? Because RC4WD says on their website that this car is 620mm/24.41" long. But that can't be the case if the wheelbase is 354mm/13.94" with 2.2" tire size. Could you please measure? greetings from Germany
Like the HERO/Desert Runner/Ford Raptor, this may be another rebranded JD Model. If so, I hope RC4WD bolsters parts availability. The Hero is a beautiful scale driver, but lack of replacement parts make them shelf queens (at least mine).
BEAUTIFUL looking rig! The haters will hate (and I cant say I blame them) but I think this might be different and I'm really looking forward to see where this goes. Maybe a breakout rig for RC4WD? The motor/esc is something most people will want to upgrade anyways so, not a big deal imo.
Man. I'm so torn. I want one so badly but I also want the cage and the undercarriage parts to all be some type of metal just because other RC4WD offerings are. I think I'm gonna get one anyway. It looks like too much fun.
There probably isn't much oil in the shocks because the shock body is pretty small in comparison to the shock shaft size. If you feel the shock up it will probably end up hydrolocking on compression
This is an awesome platform and that's all that matters. After some time the aftermarket parts will pour in and make this vehicle bullet proof . I almost lost the desire to own a ripper bc of this rig. Beautiful .
Can't wait for your on the rocks review when you take it out for a test. Spent if you can try to see how durable this thing is as part support seem pretty non-existent for the most part currently, but if we show this thing some love, I'm sure we'll get lots of aftermark. I really like my marksman but I hate the fact that there is like no aftermarket support. The axles are stout. I just wish I could get some aftermarket hubs and knuckles but red cat discontinued them and I can't find any third party brands
For anyone new to RC reading this, the element gatekeeper is an awesome buy. Especially at $269 from Amain. The gatekeeper has never been advertised as a rock bouncer or rock racer. Its advertised as a rock crawler and it does that very well. It is very durable with a huge aftermarket support and stock replacement parts support. Just wanted to clarify that since I didn't think it was fair to call it, "terrible" as something its not even advertised to be. Now, on to this. I got one on pre order. I paid for mine, along with all of my rc so im not afraid to tell you that Its junk. Its literally an Amazon specialty with a $500 price tag. It looks cool, it has potential, but a lot of work is going into mine.
At $269, it will be worth it for some. That drop in price reflects its success in the market though. At the price it was sold at, around $400, hard no. I had one and it didn't crawl well and didn't do speed well. I worked on a few issues but it simply was not a good platform IMHO.
@@RCReviewChannel Did you like the Ecto? That's a rhetorical question. You said in your own review that the platform is really capable, so, not sure why you're now saying it's not a good platform? The enduro platform has proven itself to be quite capable among many in this hobby. Most know that the gatekeeper cage is rather top heavy, but calling it terrible is rather misleading. Plus, calling this thing the number one release is another misleading title. I'd go with the Phoenix or Fordyce myself as the best release in this category.
No overdrive on this. Since it's a rock racer style, overdrive is not appropriate since it will wear out the drivetrain with lots of power and the wheels running at different speeds.
The red incert and clear tube are for the “fuel tank” and the black lines next to them arnt gas chambers their “ onboard air” for the drivers haha badass truck tho

Yeah, really an Axial Bomber style and lot better looking and should be a bit more fun.

It's nowhere near as strong (mechanically) as a Bomber. Ask me how I know☹️

You used diametrically in a sentence and used it well. :)
I agree with your thoughts.
@RCReviewChannel bashing crawling are inversely proportional is another way to say it. Then again that's my electricians work talking;)
Thanks!
when the aftermarket catches up with it maybe but to be bash ready on rocks in my experience metal axles are a must
The strength of these axles will be the biggest critical point of all. Hopefully RC4WD makes metal upgrade parts for this.
That thing is NICE. Awesome review as usual! I might have to pick this one up.
Much appreciated my good man!
Looks fantastic, absolutely stunning, but... Big but, this will not last 5 minutes racing on rocks
Worth a test for sure

Our front locker broke pretty quickly. Open diff now.
@@RCReviewChannel Sadly I'm not surprised.
It's a fairly fragile vehicle to be honest.
A fusion pro would be perfect
The little shocks are called bump stops and the intake with hose on a full size truck would be for filling the fuel tank rapidly.
Finally, I've been waiting on your review of this

Considering the Chinese economy and the favorable exchange rate, we SHOULD be seeing substantial price drops.

Cant wait to get em in!
I want a roller. The stock electronics suck but the trucks awesome.
Looks cool. Wonder how it would hold up to some real bashing.

How can you address the transmission slop i wonder .
In my experience... no way to improve that. Others, please chime in if there are solutions.
The red inlet I think is for the fuel tank
Makes sense! For the super-quick fill-ups.

Looks like a great piece of kit. Shame about the play in the running gear. Is there a way to fix or improve that without replace differentials etc?
What is the length of the car?
What about overdrive %.
Front vs rear?
No overdrive on this. Since it's a rock racer style, overdrive is not appropriate since it will wear out the drivetrain with lots of power and the wheels running at different speeds.

The ryft does not have locking differentials.
Im in
air indcution system??? did you even look where that was routed to? its the fuel filler neck....
I saw that it was routed to the Fuel cell flux capacitor.
$850 Aud it's very nice but a tad expensive.
The Ryft is a rock bouncer, far different platform than a rock racer.
I guess...
