Having owned an M6 and having been loaned an M850i for a weekend, I really didn’t feel the interior of the 8 was that much better. However the engine of the 8 outshone that of the 600ch Pack Comp. It is the engine the M6 Pack Comp should have been. The problem with the M6 is it only springs to life after 4000 rpm and is like a Series 5 below that. Once that threshold is surpassed it becomes a different car. It feels like it’s calibrated for the motorway. The 8 however really wakes up at 1800 rpm. A much better drive, more lively. But from an interior finishing point of view I didn’t really notice much difference. Ok, better tactile screen and crystal. But it didn’t feel special enough for a car that retails for €150K+. IMHO.

At the time when we drove it, I did not have the US pricing. But I agree, it's a bit too expensive. And that's the main issue with the 8 Series sales. The cars are great, but it's the price that might keep people away. As far as the drive, better than the 6 Series for sure. But that 6 Series will always have a special place in my heart: it was just simply beautiful.

My M6 GC CP was the most beautiful BMW to date IMHO.

The interior is a massive step down from the 6 series. That was so beautiful! And it's not really the cost of this car that sucks so bad, it's the devastating depreciation. I would love to know what exactly it is that makes a car like the M6 go from $150,000 to $75,000 in less than 4 years. A $150,000 911 would never reach $75,000 unless it had 100,000 miles on it. BMW needs to figure this out!

They did price the 8 a bit too high. But hopefully a future electric version will carry a good price

Agreed. I own a M6 coupe. Though I would never want to part with it, I feel as though I am stuck with it 4life. Though not a bad situation by the way however, resale would never equal the value or the $100,000 feeling I get when I drive.

the 911 only updates every 10 years might be the reason it holds it price , while bmw uppgrades with a facelift whitin 2 years and the spit out a new model after 4 . i remember when i won a 630i in a poker game , the guy valued it at 100 k euros had all the options and so on . then i realized that the new model is coming out and put it for sale on a heavy discount but nobody bought it , i ended up trading it for 20 k euros wort of chips in the casino but then i was desperate .

Great journalism. You answered all the questions I’d have asked. Great description of car and it’s feature. Long test drive too. Going to buy one asap. Thanks. Best review I’d experienced

What was that coastal road in Portugal where this video was filmed?

That was actually a mix of B-Roll footage from another location. Not all was in Portugal. I can find out the name of the road, if it helps
