Mate, I know next to nothing about coding, and am a writer trying to see whether Obsidian is right for my notes/creative process, but I have to say that you make, hands-down, the best tutorials I've seen on the web, paid or unpaid, for... pretty much anything. This could be so utterly confusing for a luddite like me, but you've somehow managed to elucidate it step-by-step without being patronising or superfluous. Brava.
Thank you for making tutorials that made my ADHD brain not only understand the topics discussed but also kept it from drifting its focus off to other distracting things in my room. Well done and I would love to watch what you put out in the future!

Thank you so much, Don! I really appreciate that. I always THINK it sounds ok in my head, but sometimes it doesn't work out, you know? Glad you liked this one and I'm very humbled to know you reference my videos.

😱 I've been using Obsidian for almost a year and I didn't even know you can do header and section-specific wiki links. I literally learned the difference between quotes and callouts just now 😂 Your videos are EXTREMELY helpful!! 🙏🔥✨
Happy to hear that!! That I could help you, that is. :) I think there are a lot of things about Obsidian that are not obvious, so I'm glad to be able to highlight some of these things!

I have been playing around with Obsidian this morning to learn more about how to use it, so this video is perfect timing! Thanks! I have a little programming background, but am still a beginner, so this video is great! I found your channel from your learning Swedish video, because I've started using obsidian to help me learn German. I initially tried using Notion since every youtuber seems to use it, but I found Notion to be so frustrating! I really like Obsidian, but I do think a better way to use tables/spreadsheets in Obsidian would be clutch. I do have the advanced tables plugin, at least, but creating tables in markdown is just kind of a pain. Do you use tables in obsidian? Also, I noticed that search results don't include when the search terms show up in headings or note titles, which is very frustrating, but I could just not know what I'm doing.
Hey Kristine! Welcome! :) Glad to hear from another person who went from Notion to Obsidian. I think you might like the Database Folder plugin, though it really isn't as good as Notion still. But development is happening, and quickly. I hadn't noticed the issue with headings, but certainly with filenames! Since you mentioned you have a programming background, perhaps you have an IDE like VSCode installed? You can open your vault in your IDE and do searches from there... not as convenient, I know, but it does search headings.
@@nicolevdh I will look into those plugins and options, thanks! It's very encouraging to see how quickly the Obsidian devs jump on making updates, and the potential is so great considering how new it is. Thanks for your high quality videos and your contribution to the community!
Ok I think I figured out my problem with the search! The "Match Case" (Aa) option was selected, so it wouldn't pull up any results if it wasn't exactly matching my search term. When I untoggle that option, the titles do come up in the results! I'm not sure I will ever want to have my searches be case-sensitive, but good to know it's available.
Oh! Good to hear! I was just about to write you because I tried it again and didn't have any issues with either. I'll remember that next time someone says that to me. Happy you figured it out! :)

Thank you very much, just a suggestion: can you pls use a light theme while demonstrating so we can easily see different symbols even on low resolution?
Hi! I do generally try to use light themes. Funnily enough though, I also get comments on those videos from people saying that the light themes are glaringly bright... so now I try to use a bit of both!
Thanks! Definitely a non-coder here. This was helpful. Question: for the footnote, does it automatically convert it to numbers? I noticed you typed in vulcan, and I was expecting the superscript to be vulcan instead of a number

I'm a math major looking to use Obsidian for my studies and was hoping you could make a video on how you would approach notetaking for a university student, particularly one in a technical field. Thank you so much for all the work you do!
Hi! Glad you're liking them! Thanks for the suggestion-- I'm not a university student so I can't really talk about that well, but I think a lot of general learning advice should apply, and I can definitely add that to the list. In the meantime, here's a video about how I learn technical subjects, in case it's useful! ruclips.net/video/6kzsCBKCl94/видео.html
This is amazing. Can anyone help me out? I was able to embed a query, but it's not finding any matches for the tag. Does the tag need to be in any specific place (like the metadata) for it to be searchable?
Thanks for the video. I watched the video about the new v.1 features. Do you know how to make the call-out look the same way before like title and body have different background colors and a larger line space without using CSS?
The only way to change how things look is by using CSS. But you can either use CSS OR change themes, which also work based on CSS. So maybe you could try looking around for other themes, if you would prefer not to modify the CSS.
Thank you very much, this video helps a lot by laerning markdown! One thing didn't worked. When I want to embed a search, I don't have this option bar for sorting and this stuff. It's just embeds the result from the search. Has someone an idea why and how to make that this ist shown?
@Tim Bushell This is the reason I decided not to move stuff over from my Evernote. :D I just had too many notes in there, and honestly, a lot of them were just other people's articles. I gave up on them and only brought over my TiddlyWiki, Roam, and Notion stuff to Obsidian.
Hi Nicole, thanks for that great video. What are the icons for on the left side of your screen (how do you anchor them there?) and also the "traffic lights" above them?
Hi Thakius! The icons on the left are part of Obsidian - they come with Obsidian and I didn't do anything to put them there. :) The "traffic lights" are the controls to close, minimise, and maximise the app because I use a Mac. :)
Thanks for your answer, Nichole. :) I appreciate it. I downloaded Obsidian but I just have quick switcher, open graph view, daily note, insert template and open command palette as icons in this side bar.

Thanks for the suggestion-- I'm not a university student so I can't really talk about that well, but I think a lot of general learning advice should apply, and I can definitely add that to the list. In the meantime, here's a video about how I learn technical subjects, in case it's useful! ruclips.net/video/6kzsCBKCl94/видео.html
this is the best Video about Obsidian
I don't know about that, but I am happy you like it! :)
I was waiting for a vid like this. Thank you, Nicole!
You're welcome! :) Glad I could oblige.
Thank you - this is an incredibly helpful and well produced tutorial!
Super useful video, thank you. Obsidian is awesome. Now I'm testing Tana, did you try it?
Yes, I've tried it and am testing it, but I'm not that big a fan of outliners. I definitely won't be switching to it from Obsidian. :)
@@nicolevdh I'm looking forward to your review :) I didn't know about "outliners", but I guess I am also not a fan of outliners.
This is so cool! Thanks for the deep dive.
One video & I subscribed to your channel. Thanks for beautiful explanation with example
Thanks so much for the vote of confidence! Appreciate you. <3
Very clearly explained, nice job
Thanks, Kenneth! :)
Thank you for this video! Never knew any of this stuff and you explained it well and visually so I was always following along
YAY! Love to hear that. Very glad to be able to help you.
This is the video Nicole, thanks a lot.
Thank you for your work!! This should also apply to fellow coders as well :)
You're very welcome! Absolutely! I meant to make this welcoming to non-coders... hope I haven't made it unwelcoming to coders. :)
Extremely Grateful for this video!
This is amazing. Can anyone help me out? I was able to embed a query, but it's not finding any matches for the tag. Does the tag need to be in any specific place (like the metadata) for it to be searchable?
Thank you so much ! i have learned a lot from this video; keep going
Ignore my comment on a previous video about coding - I found this video!
How can I do both bold and italics?
Thank you very much, this video helps a lot by laerning markdown! One thing didn't worked. When I want to embed a search, I don't have this option bar for sorting and this stuff. It's just embeds the result from the search. Has someone an idea why and how to make that this ist shown?
Thank you for this. Its super helpful !
Very good Nicole. Thanks
Okay this is really cool. Thanks for the video
Thank you for watching! :)
Learned a LOT thanks !!!!
Awesome explanation!
Thanks. Trying to shift my "Onenote" structured brain into Obsidian, one note at a time.
Likewise from Evernote - but one topic at a time - with +30k notes, note by note would be a 2nd lifetime wasted. : ))))))
Good luck! Migrating is tough!
@Tim Bushell This is the reason I decided not to move stuff over from my Evernote. :D I just had too many notes in there, and honestly, a lot of them were just other people's articles. I gave up on them and only brought over my TiddlyWiki, Roam, and Notion stuff to Obsidian.
sqwiggly is the technical term for the tilde.... Like it...
Amazing, I learned many things that I didn't know. 👏💛
Excellent! That's what I was hoping to do! Thanks for the support. <3
This is super super helpful (as with everything you do :) ). Thank you!
Yes, they change depending on what plugins you've installed.
~~trying out the strikethourgh~~
Thanks Nicole!
