It is exactly the same as updating your GPU drivers, your Webcam drivers, etc. Microsoft offer a digital stamp of approval called a WHQL certificate, but these can take a few days if not weeks to pass. Crowdstrike are basically an antivirus/malware company and have to react super quick to potential day 0 risks and attacks. They pushed an update that was NOT WHQL certified.

no, it wasn't even microsoft, and it wasn't specific to travel or airports. It was a bad patch release for Crowdstrike security software, specifically the falcon sensor component. The fix for bootlooping machines was to start up in safemode and remove the offending file from the Crowdstrike folder within system32. This is why not all systems were affected as not all companies use Crowdstrikes software or services.
I'm confused it would take like 5 mins for the local IT Team to just delete crowdstrike or just delete the specific file. This should have all been fixed by the IT teams before lunchtime. Where are they all? Too busy playing Minecraft?

It’s got nothing to do with carry-on luggage. The entire check in system is down for four major airlines, and passengers can’t be checked into flights at all. Tomorrow, all the people who re delayed/cancelled today will still be trying to get on their flights. It will still be up in the air - obviously best of luck, but from what I’m seeing from people in the IT industry, it might take a week or longer for things to go back to normal. That is up to the third party, and the user who clicked the 'Accept terms' button when installing it (which will have specific clauses around updates). MS doesn't have access to the code, how in hell would they be able to approve or deny it, on what basis? Also anti-competition laws are such that any time an OS has tried to police what is installed they have (rightly) been slapped for it, even if it was trying to protect the consumer. Even verified software is just checked for obvious viruses and trojans, these systems are often millions of lines of code and the only people who really know how they work are the devs. People need to be better informed, we all own computers, and this sort of idiocy is depressing. It is like blaming a manufacturing fault in the engine of a car on the people who made the machine that puts down the tarmac for the road.
