If I was going to keep long-term manual, if I was a sell after a few years guy DCT maybe. Automatic will always require more maintenance long term and potential for failures. Short term should have no problems. The 87 fuel is helpful for travel.
Same here. 1h video, I didn't even notice how long it was. Oh and Ian is such a pro doing these off-road sections and still speaking to the mic like he was in the studio
Man has convinced a soon to be new rider to go from lusting after a Hayabusa to wanting an AT 😂…I remember them doing the Dakar back in the day, but as with most kids, I always fancied the crotch rockets and seeing as my hero Sheene rode Suzukis, I always wanted one from that stable. Almost turning 50 soon and want to get a full license before then …and thanks to guys like this, I’m completely confused in terms of what I want…is it bad that I want one of every type of bike in the shed 😂
@@friktionrc I have had every genre of bike possible. I brought a new Ninja 400 as it will do everything i need it to including 3000km tours. Im 58 and not a small guy and its awesome. It does gravel roads etc easily as its so light. Dont care if i crash or drop it is liberating as it doesnt matter. Thats my end result after being confused as well. Main reason i hate adventure bikes is because they have no proper fairings like a road bike. This causes so much hassle and buffeting.
I don't know if it's just me, but this channel with such quality content and information is very underrated - it deserves at least 2m subsribers - may God bless him, because he does everything with his heart and good intentions
I bought a 2018 AT with DCT and, not gonna lie, I was skeptical. But it didn’t take long to realize that shifting isn’t as central to the riding experience as you might think. In fact, I found that I can enjoy the nature around me on twisty mountain roads more, focus better and navigate difficult terrain when off-road, and pay more attention to traffic in urban areas. All of this allows me to get more out of every ride and be safer. Automatic transmission on a motorcycle is an absolute game changer.
@@briankay3414 I have a 2021 base model dct.....love it! Crashbars, denali lights, decals, oem panniers, topbox, endless list of extras!! I do go on byroads....best fun you can have with ur clothes on!! 😏
I would buy the DCT for the reason you cant stall the motor. On a small bike that doesnt matter but on a big bike it can cause balance issues and tip overs very easily.
Holy smokes this is a LOT of valuable content in one video. It's going to take me a couple of weeks to get through it all, but I'm going to enjoy coming back to it time and again. Thank you good, Sir. You're the best in the business!
I bought the 2024 Standard for many reasons related to my riding and life style. People do rave about the DCT - but I am not ready to give up the clutch. Shifting is part of the fun for me. Though i did add the quick shifter when I feeling like kicking in sport bike mode. It's butter smooth. Overall I really like the bike. It's a great allrounder except for the really hairy stuff as you've shown. I don't notice any engine heat at all so I found that comment curious. I wear both long and short boots and always riding jeans. Never felt any warmth at all.
Re: Ian's comment stating that he wouldn't buy an Africa Twin because he'd rather have a mostly road focused adv bike and have a second mostly off road biased machine..... I personally find having one bike that covers both secondary/gravel roads and highways more satisfying than have separate bikes. There's just something inherently rewarding with having one bike and being able to cover multiple surfaces with it. I think it's a mastery issue, where you spend all of your time on one bike and become very familiar with how it behaves/responds to your inputs. This "one bike" philosophy works really well with the Africa Twin, where it's highway abilities are really quite exceptional, yet it still feels balanced and stable on gravel. Had a 2020 ATAS and loved it for touring.
This hit for me the exact same way. Ian's point, given his broad experience riding all these bikes as often as he does, is that they are all great machines but the AT sits sort of in the middle. What do I hear? It is a perfect machine for me. I love riding resource roads and twisty highways in the mountains around where I live. My little 390ADV (first bike ever) is great, but it has very limited highway power and sure don't like carrying much luagge or the wife. I'm dreaming hard about an AT AS as my perfect machine and I just can't seem to find anything that would be more suited to me. Wife wants to go for a rip? Push button. Loading up luggage and heading out for 2 days? Push button. Huge fuel tank, Android Auto, Cruise control? Yes please! It is like a poor-man's BMW GS and it sure don't seem 'cheap', just crazy practical. My dream trips include heading up to the 'End of the Road' in the Artic circle, crossing Canada and back, etc., but I also love hitting some gravel and getting into a nice lake or creek campsite. Want to rip around a couple of 'were-once-roads' that maybe have a couple of steep deactivations to deal with? Push a few buttons, drop the windscreen and hit it. On top of that it is a Honda. I like to buy and own things forever and I don't see that low-compression Honda engine giving you any issues pushing well over 100,000 km like some of the old ones did (and still do).
I recently sold 2 Africa Twins, a 2017 CRF 1000 and a 2021 Africa Twin Adventure Sport CRF 1100 and purchased a BMW R 1300 GS. Rode both ATs on-road and off-road extensively. I had no idea how much I would miss DCT. I wouldn’t say I have buyers remorse, but the AT with DCT is a fantastic bike.
I appreciate all the work you do testing these for us, but man, doing that trail a second time on the AS version was crazy. Thanks for showing us how they ride.
I just bought this bike, pick it up tomorrow. it's my first AT and was a bit weary. Hearing you laughing and whooing as you ride it offroad, makes me positive I made the right choice.
Not only is this the best motorcycle review I’ve ever come across. I truly believe this is the best review I’ve ever seen of anything. After watching this I feel comfortable choosing what bike suits me. Looked for this for a very long time. Thank you sir, I’ll buy merchandise ASAP 🎯
First time ever to click on a video 1+hr long 😅it’s a testament to the quality of your reviews. Thanks for this terrific summary ! 2018 ATAS DCT owner and I may upgrade. ✌️
I'm 2018dct also considered new AT for better looks, better DCT logic and cruise control. But I mounted atlas throttle lock and I don't see reason/need to "upgrade". I'd rather spend that 3,5k€~ that switch would cost me on travels😊
When I'm considering buying a new bike i want a review which really digs deep into the details. Im not going to spend my money looking at a 20 minute summary. This video delivers in bucket loads. Its great really detailed all the facts and figures are there. Thank you. Really appreciate the time you've taken to produce this video😊
Hey Ian, longtime subscriber on my personal YT account. I’ve been drooling over the ATAS for over 5 years. They just don’t come to my area. Like at all. I’ve only ever seen two in person: the one I almost bought 5 years ago when I was a new-ish rider, and the 2024 ATAS that I’m literally going to be picking up in an hour or so. I also own a HD Low Rider ST (loved your review!), so it’s weird to hear people complaining about a 525-550 pound bike. My LRST is pushing 800 pounds, so even 550 is like a revelation to me. 😂 That said, I completely respect and appreciate the difficulty that off-road riding brings. As far as the DCT/Clutch argument goes, it’s a no-brainer for me. I’m a Persian Gulf veteran who has arthritis in both wrists and hands. While I operate my LRST without issue, watching you navigate the standard AT on the Enduro portion of the test ride, I’m fully aware that the DCT is the better choice for me, and I’ll likely be sticking to fire roads and gravel, let alone any single track. I’m interested to see if Honda implements the E-Clutch with the AT. I think it could be the sweet spot: giving us complete manual control, but allowing us to slow speed maneuver without fear of stalling the engine. I’m just so pumped I FINALLY have my dream bike. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some HD, but I love Big Red’s reliability, attention to detail, and TECH! I’m considering getting the foot shifter for my AT though, so I don’t always have to keep it in Drive or be forced to always use the paddle shifters. I’m not faking the funk, this bike will be a much more road/touring focused steed. But I’m retired and have plenty of time to ride as much as I want to get acquainted with it and git gud at some light off road riding. I’m 52, BTW, so I’m old enough to know better, but young enough to disregard those fears. 😂 Thanks again for one of my favorite motorcycle channels on YT. Been watching for years and looking forward to finally getting to research products for real through your videos. I’ll plan on using links in your videos as a way to give back. Stay shiny side up! 😎 Derek aka Throttle Fiend
I cross shopped the ATAS DCT against the Tiger 900 GT Pro. My riding is 99% on road and found the Tiger to be the better road bike. Much more nimble and fun to ride and is about 70 lbs less weight. With the quick shifter on the Tiger, it's as close to a DCT as you can get. I know, I've had the DCT on a Goldwing. Out the door price was also about $2k less on the Tiger with more features. Finally, I'm 6'3" and found the Tiger ergos more comfortable.
That’s interesting for me, I’m cross-shopping the same two bikes and I’m 6’4”. I’d prefer the Honda for the CarPlay, electric suspension and Honda reliability and spares. Looks is also in the Hondas favour. The Tiger I’d prefer for the price and the fact that Triumph really threw everything at the model as standard. How are your finding engine heat on the Tiger?
The Africa Twin of either stripe is the Labrador retriever of adventure bikes. Not the best at anything, but really competent at everything. When you consider the relative light weight, the prodigious torque, baked in Honda reliability, and high resale value, it becomes very easy to love. I’ve enjoyed my 2017 standard model since new and have no intention to replace it with any new bike.
I've enjoyed it so much. Thank you for all your efforts for providing us with so many information. A true reviewer. I will receive in short of days my Africa. I chose the adventure sport, DCT, ES, Tricolor. Wish you good rides and keep us posted
Thanks Ian. I've been looking at the AT's and been wondering which one, but you nailed it in this video. The tricky off road section on both bikes was brilliant and showed me what I wanted to know about the DCT. Most people tell you about a bike, but you are able to help your viewers make decisions based on your experience rather than just walking around a bike and reading off a spec sheet. Safe riding and thanks again.
I just upgraded from a 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE. I took a hard look at the 2024 Africa Twin but in the end chose to purchase a 2024 Triumph Tiger Rally Pro. A huge downside to the Africa Twin for me is the myriad of menus and the handle bar controls interface. Love your channel and honest reviews - GREAT JOB!
I have ALWAYS stated that Africa Twin Adventure Sports with 19 inch front wheel would be perfect as it would make the handling better, the center of gravity lower and make the bike more approachable. It is great to see this change finally arrive!
One of the best videos in which you compare both models in a clear way, full of details, very well elaborated, very well developed. It is of great help in making a decision on which model to choose. For my part, I have it clear thanks to you: Adventure Sports. Thanks!!!!
A truly great comprehensive review, many thanks. I have the old Honda 750 africa twin , an amazing bike still going strong even though its 30 years old. Honda quality.
I met 3 men in their 70s when I was in my 20s. I remember thinking, “I hope o can ride until I am 70. I am 66 riding often. I have 28k on my 22 Africa Twin.
@@dalejones6627Respect …I am 59 …I tell my Doctor riding a motorcycle makes me feel like I am twenty again , only bikers know that riding is beautiful .
Great work. I have my ATAS2024 for more than 6 months, manual + quickshifter. I am not an offroad person (yet), riding mainly on roads, and enjoying the bike every single kilometer.
Well Ian, you have done it again. Outstanding review as always and conscious of your delivery, which i personally consider very professional. Well i just bought today a NEW 23 Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT ES, i was seriously considering the 24 model but i was offered a huge reduction in price over the 24 model and that was just a to good of a deal to knock back. $16,000 Australian dollars, which is about $10,500 US. The money saved will kit this bike out. I have been holding back on buying as I wanted to see your review as I trust your judgement and experience. Thank you Ian for helping me make my decision-making much easier. Throttle on and be safe.
2024 is not that much different compared to 2023. There is no real new mechanical tech of any kind, same engine, same transmission etc. Really only minor software tweaks and bit of fairings redisign. Actually, maybe some detriment to AS version, depends how you look at it, smaller front tire, less suspension travel, more road bias etc... I love my $$ discounted 2023 LOL
bro!!!! much respect! nice job taking that enduro section. The AT is a 500 lb+ pig and you 're riding on street bias tires!! I have a 2020 AT adventure DCT, I would have turned around. I learned so much watching this - Thank you!
Everything aside africa twin is the most beautiful adventure bike . ❤❤❤ And it has Goldilocks proportions of low seat height, massive ground clearance and long suspension travel ❤️❤️❤️
DCT all the way! I've grown to love DCT. It just works so well, once you get your personal settings figure out. I'm so glad I took a chance with it nearly a year ago, with no regrets.
man didnt skip for a second. the most worth it point for me was that it is not very sensitive to fuel quality, I belong to Pakistan and considering to visit centeral asians countries specifically Pamir highway, then I am confident that ATAS EC DTC is the best machine I can have. Thank you so much for the details review. Loved it. Keep rocking
Another awesome review! DCT is My choice. Am on My second VFR 1200X Crosstourer DCT will probably never go back to manuel. Because of the comfort & convinience. DCT is brilliant… Cheers from Norway 🇳🇴
As a long-experienced rider with strong motor-memory for using a clutch (as "one with my body"), I will, still, opt for the DCT because it helps the rider in so many situations, both on and off road. I could definitely identify with your Adventure Sport model "wishing for the clutch" on the rocky, steep, single-track trail. I believe, there is no DCT substitute for the interplay that one gets by feathering the clutch in concert with working the throttle while in first or second gear. However, for me, the DCT still wins out in 95 percent of my riding situations. Great comparison of models and in-depth review - in typical Big Rock Moto fashion!!!
Sensational video mate, probably the best review video I’ve ever watched. Before watching this I would’ve assumed that it’d be the standard model all the way for me, you’ve turned that on its head. Theres a Honda dealer near me, I’m gonna book a test ride! Thanks a lot and safe riding. 👍
Very nice work Ian, I really appreciate your work for this community! I had a DCT for 5 years and now bought a manual. The DCT saved my a$$ a couple times when I was fatigued and stranded off-road, so def loved it. But in everyday situations it felt too controlling in slow speeds, and the manual is more confident inspiring for me. I disagree with your analysis of who the bike is for. I agree that "primarily off road" and "primarily on road" will find other bikes better, but there's a wide range of riders who are neither. Just want a solid bike that feels natural on and off the road and runs on regular fuel. And the AT, in my opinion, is exactly the best as this :)
Phenomenal video Ian!! Very informative!! Thank you so much great job! On a side note I have to say that I really like the 24' AS. I am seriously considering getting one, my 1250 GS will go for sale soon. Keep up with the great job!
Fantastic head to head review Ian. I have Africa Twin fever. I am looking hard at them. Eye opening take on the 19 inch front tire and how well it handles off road riding. I had written it off as a non-option. After watching that review I feel much more informed about my decision. Grateful you have the opportunity for extended testing and are such a technical minded reviewer. Thanks for the info
I went for the Adventure sports dct, had the 2020 adventure sports dct and this bike is so much better that the last model. Love it! The only thing i dont like is that there is no upper winddeflectors for the 2024. But the dct is so much better and the 2024 dont have the same jumping issues i had on the 2020.Thanks for all the good reviews and the indepth technical content, keep up the good work! from an Afriva Twin bloodfan for life.
I would never have opted for a DCT in my youth, but as I'm hitting 60 soon I can see its benefits. My strength is not what it used to be and coming to a stop with both feet down would definitely help with the weight of a fully loaded bike. The only thing that stops sealing the deal is that rediculous 15 button cluster on the left hand side. I'm also a fan of simplicity and that's why the Suzuki 1050 is still in the running for me. Hopefully I'll make my mind up over the winter and will decide in spring '25 which one to lay my money down on. Thanks again Ian for your superb presentation. You do better job than a salesperson would.😊
This is an amazing review! No BS whatsoever. I ride a 2022 Africa Twin AS (manual) and as someone who prefers to have one bike, and is vertically challenged (5' 7"), the AT does the job for me both on highway riding as well as bad roads to gravel (plenty of which we have in India). I wish it was lighter though, and the Outback Motortek full protection kit makes it even more heavier.
How bad is the engine Heat on the Adventure Sport DCT, Is it just a little uncomfortable or is it so hot where you're sweating in the summer traffic with both legs dripping with water?
Dude I just realized your hair! Omg it looks great! You should have cut it a while ago. Very handsome man 😎🍺 let's goooo!!! Dirtbikes. Also, looking like Christmas time with your plaid and the bikes in Christmas colors 😁
Hi, after 4 years of happiness with a Tiger 900 GT, one month ago, trade it for an Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES 2024 manuel. I am really happy of my change. I think it’s an upgrade! The more i ride her, the more i love her. I am surprised of your comment about engine heat on the legs. On my Tiger 900 2020, the engine heat was a really big con when i was in trafic not moving or riding really slowly in hot summers days. I really dont feel as much heat on my legs on my new love, my 2024 AF AS ES.
Congrats on the AT. Which motor is smoother and what was your deciding factor to change from the 900 Gt to the AT ES? The 900 Gt is lighter and seems like it would be more manageable.
@@oldtimer3824 Both are great bikes; no doubt. For me the Africa Twin always have been and is still the most beautiful adventure bike. But the Africa Twin always have been inaccessible for me as it always have been a very tall bike. It have changed in 2024. The Africa Twin Adventure Sports now have a 19 inches front wheel and a lower seat height. With the low seat in option the height is only 795 mm. It’s very accessible now. I can easily get my both feet flat on the ground. It’s like Honda made this change for me 🤗. Yes, the Tiger 900 GT is lighter, but when we look at both bikes side to side, we understand why the Africa Twin AS is heavier. It’s not only because she have a bigger gaz tank, it’s because the Africa Twin is build rock solid like an army tank! The weight is very well distributed on the Africa Twin so i dont feel it much. On asphalted twisted roads, the Africa Twin feel more agile. On gravel roads, the Africa Twin feel more stable. The engine on the Africa Twin is a peach. The Tiger 900 GT is also a fantastic bike & better than ever since 2024 model. But, i felt in love with the new Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES 2024.
@@jonmarin82Sorry, it’s hard to say for me as i didn’t feel any annoying vibrations from my Tiger 900 GT, but i know a lot of Tiger owners didn’t liked them at all!
Both are beautiful looking bikes . Thanks for an honest and thorough review . I think any rider would love one of these as a second bike after learning on something a little more forgiving as in weight etc . With a pair of 60/40 or 70/30 tires that more knarly single track stuff would be even easier . Love the engine sound too . Take care now and see you on the next one .
I had a 2017 model AT, it was a 'good' bike but it wasn't what I was searching for at the time, I loved the exhaust note with aftermarket exhaust. I now have a 1250 GSA which I love for more sport touring oriented adventure travel with the occasional dirt/gravel thrown in. If I were to sell it or be in the market for a new bike I'd have to take a serious look at the new '24 AT AS with DCT. At nearly $10K less loaded out than a new 1300 GS I'd be hard pressed to justify the difference for the German steed and the difference left over would buy me a new 300 smoker haha. Thanks for the always detailed and honest review, you never fail us.
I really want the 2024 AS DCT, it seems to be the perfect machine for crappy pavement (common in my area), patches of start/stop/hectic traffic (don't need to be constantly on the clutch) and the occasional off-pavement adventure (mostly just dirt and gravel, no hard enduro like that hill in the review). Not to mention it's easily the most handsome of the adventure bikes right now.
Excellent detailed review of both the models. I guess its the adventure sports dct for me. With no off road experience the adventure sports dct is surely a blessing for newbies like me wanting off road thrills. Thanks and keep up the excellent work
Thanks again for this amazing review. I’ve watched right from the beginning to the end as you might know I have a 2017 Honda Africa, twin DCT and wow it’s really nice to see what they’ve done with the new DCT. epic riding controls, nice to see they have sport one two and three, on my bike I ride in sport., thank you so much for the epic ride and comparison. Looking forward to next one.
I have a standard Africa Twin with the standard transmission and I choose that because I knew that I was going to take the bike down the Baja Peninsula of Mexico and wanted to make sure that if I fell I didn't want to damage something I couldn't repair in Baja. You can use vice grips and wire to get a manual clutch bike going but if you broke the DCT shift mechanism in Mexico you might end up trailering the bike home.
Thank you so much for a very informative video. I am currently awaiting delivery of a new ATAS DCT here in the UK and I have definitely made the right choice. Previously had a GSA, but due to a knee replacement, had to make a change. Having a bit of a wait due to demand for the ATAS, but it’ll be worth it. Thanks again and looking forward to the TFT video👍
Another wonderful and informative review! Thank you! I was on the fence between manual or DCT but ended up just going with the DCT (Adv Sport), I’m EXTREMELY happy with my choice.
The dct looks high quality and probably get used more over time. I agree totally with the lower seat height/ center of gravity making a better overall experience. Great video!
Really nice to see the upgrades on the "road" model and that the DCT is so capable. If I ever get tired of the practicality of my NC750x, I know what's next.
Great review...seriously considering getting one of these. I had a Himalayan but now have an interceptor and Honda Transalp....didnt know about ol mam ronin. I use to watch him all the time
Thanks Ian. Great thorough review where you as always go all in. I would have loved to also hear your perspective on two-up road and gravel touring with luggage as well. For the AT as well as the comparison set. I think that is missing for this review. Thanks a lot
Really glad to see this review - it's the best one on YT. Nice to see some of the improvements Honda made from the previous version. Perhaps they were actually listening to some of the customer feedback.
If I am looking for a new bike.. or just curious regarding a specific model that just came out.. or anything motorcycle.. Big Rock Moto is my go to.. keep it up! And thanks for the honest stuff.
Ian, I really enjoyed your review on the NC750X and this one was even better. Best reviewer on RUclips. I thought I made up my mind on buying the NC but also like the AT. I definitely want the DCT so gonna have to stick with Honda. I’m a big guy, 6’4”, 260 lbs, 34” inseam. Am I too tall for the NC? I ride a 300L Rally now and it needs an upgraded suspension if I am going to keep it as a 2nd bike. Any tall riders out there with feedback?
I bought the DCT because of friends who have the GL DCT. I was mostly curious, and have been surprisingly pleased. Just finished a 11K ride, and was a big labor saver. I thought slow speed maneuvers would be a problem but not so. I have heard so many, including Big Rock Moto say they were thinking it lugs. I found the Urban ride mode fixes that in town where starting/stopping is more often. My only complaint is how it eats rear tires. Probably because of the engine braking (which sounds awesome). The fuel range was only 20 miles less than my friend on a GSA. The chain was cleaned after one thousand miles and only needed adjustment two times over the course of the 11k miles. Great motorcycle for what I use it for. No single tracks, but plenty of gravel. I broke the hand guard also, cheap repair. The apple car play I found hard to use, so I added a garmin XT.
I bought a 2024 dct. I did due to left hand having a disability. I wanted to focus on enjoying ride. I love it. I live in socal so nice to not shift often.
Great review, as always! To make these DCT bikes even more practical, what about a rear brake instead of the handbrake on the left side of the handlebar? That would also make both feet to be free. I think Honda 750 Adv is already using this setup.
Ian, How would you compare the standard AT to the 800de as far as on and off road? These are two models I am considering. Thanks for the awesome content.
Good review. I can't believe you did the Enduro Hill climb on those things... Brave maybe. I couldn't pick up either one of those bikes. Getting too old. Absolutely beautiful bike, none look better. The Aprilia is right there behind the Africa twin in looks. I think you brought out the differences in the two bikes excellently. Texas on the prairie
I bought the 2024 Adventure Sports DCT model based purely on the list of improvements Honda made on owner's suggestions. 19" tire, lower height, higher compression, low end torque, tall gears, customizable riding modes, almost 7 gallon tank. This bike for me, is Pure Perfection. I finally found "The ONE". I literally need nothing else.
Thanks for the great review! The DCT and ES look awesome. But it would be nice to have a traditional clutch and gear shifter, with the ability to switch to DCT-only for longer rides. How fast does it slow down when rolling off the throttle? I like having the ability to cut power to the engine using the clutch and glide into a turn, especially a tight turn, so the bike doesn't engine-brake too much when rolling off the throttle.
Fantastic stuff man. The only way I would buy an ADV and go off-road is if it had tech like these. If a bike weighs over 500lbs, it should have more tech. For now I'll stick with my WR450 which is simple as rocks yet brilliant.
Which version would you go for and would you get DCT or manual? Sound off below! I hope the review was helpful --

Nice haircut! Lol. I would go with the DCT and the AS model. I will do moto camping but no hard trails.
I’d probably go with the Adventure model and DCT. For my realistic 70% road and 30% off-road.
@@BigRockMoto awesome. I will follow your links. I like your videos. I will pick up today the manual adventure es 2024. I will see your links . Thanks
If I was going to keep long-term manual, if I was a sell after a few years guy DCT maybe. Automatic will always require more maintenance long term and potential for failures. Short term should have no problems. The 87 fuel is helpful for travel.

Outstanding and incredibly helpful, thank you 👍
Wow, thank you!

Automatic transmission on a motorcycle is an absolute game changer.
well said, thanks for sharing
I'd be very reluctant to buy a manual again! I have a 2021 1100L dct, best bike ever!!
I love my 2022 ATASESDCT... so nice
On a small bike that doesnt matter but on a big bike it can cause balance issues and tip overs very easily.
this is the best review of ATAS at the moment, and it's just a great job. respect.
Thanks a lot 😊
Simply the best motorcycle review I’ve ever seen. Honest, direct, humble, real, informative and competent. Genuine. Bravo.
Had a 2020 ATAS and loved it for touring.
great point
You bet!
Whoever designed the AT deserves the credit. Eight years later, still one of the most good looking adventure bikes in the market.
YES
I just bought this bike, pick it up tomorrow.
it's my first AT and was a bit weary. Hearing you laughing and whooing as you ride it offroad, makes me positive I made the right choice.
Not only is this the best motorcycle review I’ve ever come across. I truly believe this is the best review I’ve ever seen of anything.
After watching this I feel comfortable choosing what bike suits me. Looked for this for a very long time.
Thank you sir, I’ll buy merchandise ASAP 🎯
Best comparison review I've seen in my life! You, sir, are the real deal. ❤
Appreciate that

Its funny because I was just talking to a friend about an Africa twin and all of a sudden, your review popped up. Kool
It’s “the sign”.
Your phone was listening to you
First time ever to click on a video 1+hr long 😅it’s a testament to the quality of your reviews.
It's a really nice review I just wanted to see the 2 versions comparison. Thank you for your great efforts.
Nothing but an inspiration to all of us out here. You are the real deal. As always, great reviews. Be safe out there, and enjoy the ride.
Difficult to find a better and more informative bike channel out there.Thks.
Wonderfully thorough review, very useful for anyone contemplating an AT. Well done👍😊
This seems to be the most genuine review of the different models from what I have seen so far. Thank you!
I agree, the best ADV, dual sport reviews on RUclips!!! Good job Ian.
Thanks again for one of my favorite motorcycle channels on YT. Been watching for years and looking forward to finally getting to research products for real through your videos. I’ll plan on using links in your videos as a way to give back.
Stay shiny side up! 😎

thanks for sharing and congrats on the new bike
No need to apologize for the notes. This was a great review with tons of great information. Thanks!
Good job, Ian. As usual, a thorough & objective review.

Great work. I have my ATAS2024 for more than 6 months, manual + quickshifter. I am not an offroad person (yet), riding mainly on roads, and enjoying the bike every single kilometer.
Hi Ian. I’ve put 12,000 commuter miles on my 2023 NC750X DCT. I’ve really grown to enjoy the DCT. If I get the AT I think I’ll have to stick with DCT.
This is JUST what I've been looking for! Thank you so much
Great video. Getting an AT today. I am getting a manual transmission adventure ES. Thanks for doing the video.
Throttle on and be safe.
awesome! enjoy!
Appreciate it!!
Everything aside africa twin is the most beautiful adventure bike . ❤❤❤
And it has Goldilocks proportions of low seat height, massive ground clearance and long suspension travel ❤️❤️❤️
DCT all the way! I've grown to love DCT. It just works so well, once you get your personal settings figure out. I'm so glad I took a chance with it nearly a year ago, with no regrets.
The 21 front was kind of the reason for most. I'm 2020 . Loving and staying for now. Thanks for the great vid!
Thanks!

man didnt skip for a second. the most worth it point for me was that it is not very sensitive to fuel quality, I belong to Pakistan and considering to visit centeral asians countries specifically Pamir highway, then I am confident that ATAS EC DTC is the best machine I can have. Thank you so much for the details review. Loved it. Keep rocking
Fresh haircut nice, laughter and joy going down the trail…priceless
Another awesome review!
DCT is My choice.
Am on My second VFR 1200X Crosstourer DCT will probably never go back to manuel.
Because of the comfort & convinience.
DCT is brilliant…
Cheers from Norway 🇳🇴
But with dct.. you'll lose the option to rev bombs through tunnels.... which is way exciting than going off road :)
@@funyun 😆Ha-ha
@@funyunI accidently did that while riding and scared the shit out of me as I launched towards the car in front of me lol
This was exactly what I hoped it would be. Thanks man, looks like the AS DCT is the way I’ll go. Now to find one!
One good point about Honda Africa twins, it take regular gas. Make it much easier going to remote areas.
🐐 aventure bike youtuber!! thank you for all the efforts Ian, god bless you and ride safe 🙏🏽
Appreciate these intellectual technical discussions. Very helpful to run through things from a systems perspective. Thanks for producing the content.
Wow. This is the best comparison video. This was what i was searching for. Good job bro👊
I went for the Adventure sports dct, had the 2020 adventure sports dct and this bike is so much better that the last model. Love it! The only thing i dont like is that there is no upper winddeflectors for the 2024. But the dct is so much better and the 2024 dont have the same jumping issues i had on the 2020.Thanks for all the good reviews and the indepth technical content, keep up the good work! from an Afriva Twin bloodfan for life.
thanks
I would never have opted for a DCT in my youth, but as I'm hitting 60 soon I can see its benefits. My strength is not what it used to be and coming to a stop with both feet down would definitely help with the weight of a fully loaded bike. The only thing that stops sealing the deal is that rediculous 15 button cluster on the left hand side. I'm also a fan of simplicity and that's why the Suzuki 1050 is still in the running for me. Hopefully I'll make my mind up over the winter and will decide in spring '25 which one to lay my money down on. Thanks again Ian for your superb presentation. You do better job than a salesperson would.😊
Same here. Too many buttons. 😮
see my next video , I will be showing how to use the electronics, it's not bad once you learn it.
@BigRockMoto yeah, I picked up on that in the video. Looking forward to the next installment Ian. Thank you in advance.😊
How bad is the engine Heat on the Adventure Sport DCT,
Is it just a little uncomfortable or is it so hot where you're sweating in the summer traffic with both legs dripping with water?
I own a tiger 850 sport and engine heat and vibrations are a big concern.
What about vibrations on the Africa Twin?
@@oldtimer3824 when you move the bike in the garage, you feel the weight difference.
Thanks and keep up the excellent work
I just bought the tricolour base model 2024 ES dct, and loving it!!
After watching your review I started looking into the Honda here in Australia the ADV Sports model with DCT/ES comes with 21inch front wheel?
I have a standard Africa Twin with the standard transmission and I choose that because I knew that I was going to take the bike down the Baja Peninsula of Mexico and wanted to make sure that if I fell I didn't want to damage something I couldn't repair in Baja. You can use vice grips and wire to get a manual clutch bike going but if you broke the DCT shift mechanism in Mexico you might end up trailering the bike home.
Awesome video. Thank you for all the info and time you put into these videos.
I realize the V-Storm 800DE is not in the same class, but I hope you add comparisons to the African Twin as you do the long term testing on the 800 DE
Good choice!
Do you think the new ATA is worth having over your GS1300? Your content is the best on YT

Reinstilled my hope in Honda.
Such a definitive, awesome review. Other manufacturers need to take notice and send you all their bikes!
I bought a 2024 dct. I did due to left hand having a disability. I wanted to focus on enjoying ride. I love it. I live in socal so nice to not shift often.
Amazing comparison video. Loving the detailed content.
I’m curious how the new adventure sport and DCT will perform in the desert/sand!
So far the best rivew I have seen. 👍
Thank you for putting in so much time and effort into your videos!
Thanks for the awesome content.
the africa twin is better at both. but costs more money.
